The Golden Hour can sometimes actually be golden! Figuratively and literally. This ( unfiltered) shot was taken during sunset , in the middle of Vänern lake, the largest lake in Sweden.

I chased the golden hour to take in this marvelous sunset, where both the sky and the frozen river appear to be on fire.
I inhaled the spiritual moment and became at one with the extraordinary spirit of the universe

It was cold and stormy with blizzard conditions throughout the day, but sitting down and gazing at the near-frozen stream, winding through the forest, was so very peaceful and filled me with a sense of tranquility. Despite the harsh conditions and my hesitancy to leave the warmth of my house during the frantic storm , something about the beauty of the setting ,the purity of the white snow, and the way the stream formed a winding path through the trees, was perfectly pristine . It’s as if it agreed to harmonize with the wintery conditions to create this enchanting scene and made me feel right at home. As if I belonged there . I didn’t want to leave. I sat there for a while and stared, marveling how so much beauty can exist in a seemingly harsh unwelcoming environment.
But I belonged there because I wanted to be part of it. And I was.

Religion focuses on providing inspiration to it’s adherents and I can’t think of a better place to establish a religious center than in the foothills of a majestic snow capped mountain. The Atlas Mountains in Morocco, a mountain range that rises high and mighty throughout North Africa , provides inspiration and awe and serves as a scenic backdrop to this mosque located on the outskirts of Marrakech.

The magnificent White Storks opened their wings and took off toward the deep blue and milky white skies. It was one of my first moments in Morocco and I was almost able to hear them saying “Come with me. Let me show you the way ”

Before entering the souks of Marrakech, in Western Morocco, be prepared for an onslaught of sensory stimulus. Whether it is the shouts and relentless persistence of the merchants beckoning you to their stalls, or the smells and sights of numerous colorful spices for sale, or the energy of countless people milling about , or the constant buzz and fumes coming from the myriads of motorbikes zigzagging through the tight passageways of the souk, it can easily overwhelm you! And if you let your guard down for just a moment, you can get trampled by a donkey! I was well rested when I visited and still had to push myself to make it through the labyrinth of small roads and alleyways of the souk.
I visited the souks right near the famous Jemaa el-Fnaa square , located in the center of Marrakesh's medina (old city). I survived ( and was only convinced to make one small purchase ) and glad I experienced it! I felt the culture of the souks that has been there for hundreds of years. Throughout all the years the spirit of the souks has endured and seems mostly unchanged from hundred of years ago. It’s easy to visit, experience the colorful chaos, and imagine it being exactly how it was way back before we were born . And way back before our grandparents were born. It’s a testament to the past and gives us an incredible glimpse into the power of culture and the idea that despite so many changes the world has experienced, some things can remain the same.
In the bubble of the souks, haggling is part of the spirit and the norm. As a visitor I found myself trying to strike a balance between politeness and saying a firm "no merci"( no thanks). As an outsider the constant attention from the merchants , and all the intense stimulations , can be a lot to bear , but it gave me wonderful insight into how things used to be, how things are, and how things may always be in the souks of Marrakesh. And in this rapidly changing world sometimes I think that change is not always necessary, lest we forget there are those whom came before us and created their own way of life to survive. And if not for those whom came before us and paved the way for us , we would not be here at all.

The vortexes in Sedona are believed to be swirling centers of energy , emanating from the earth , that are conducive to healing, meditation , self-exploration , and peace. I don’t know if I believe in it but was always curious about it . But when I visited one of the vortexes , I did find one that definitely had an impact on me. It was a human vortex.
He goes by the name of Robert and for years has been playing the flute on top of a high rock ( in Boynton Canyon) for all to hear. A haunting beautiful sound that sets the mood for the vortex area and draws people in.
When he is not playing , he climbs down from his high perch up on the rock and speaks to the visiting people . In a gentle sincere way he talks of love , nature , peace , and how we all come from nature and belong together, as one. Love can bring us all together, he says. When we realize that we all come from the same place , that we are all one , that love is the common force that binds us all, we can have peace and happiness on earth and live in harmony with ourselves, with others , and with nature. He often completed his message by handing out heart shaped red rocks to all those he spoke with.
I felt his words and saw how real and genuine Robert was. I left Sedona knowing that I indeed was impacted by the vortex. A human vortex. Robert. A man spreading the idea of peace and love in a time when we all can use that message to help us feel better and understand who we are.
The world around us is full of its usual chaos but in this era it comes along with so many distractions , disturbances , an over abundance of technological stimuli , and constant disturbances which prevents us from feeling inner peace. However even a few minutes of calm , feeling the words and message from Robert , helped me put things into perspective and I walked away from the vortex feeling a little better about myself and a little more hopeful that we as a people can achieve peace within ourselves and with others.
