Pool season is upon us and there are several ways you can reduce the amount of chlorine your body is absorbing every time you cannonball into the water.
Chlorine wreaks all kinds of havoc on our bodies. It destroys good bacteria ( necessary bacteria on our skin and healthy gut flora), dries out the skin and exacerbates symptoms and flares of skin conditions such as eczema and psoriasis, irritates the eyes, throat and nose, yellows our teeth and in extreme situations can actually cause asthma like reactions and respiratory irritations.
A few things we can do to protect our bodies:
💧shower or rinse before entering the water - chlorine absorption lowers when your skin and hair are already wet
💧coat your body and hair in a thin protective layer- coconut oil is a great option
💧spray body/ swimwear / hair with a vitamin c spray - naturally neutralizes the chlorine on our body!
💧shower/ rinse after being in the pool
💧add magnesium sulfate to your bath 1-2 times a week during peak swimming season.. this will help to detox and neutralize the chlorine from your body
