Couple weeks late, but better late than never. It’s been awhile since we have posted about anything. Kind of a hit or a miss. With that being said we ran the iRacing Knoxville Nationals that was held back in August!
Friday night I was able to make the final Qualifying race for the 2022 iRacing Knoxville Nationals Series. Didn’t have much hope to make it as it’s the last race and everyone is trying to get points for Saturday nights session.
-Friday nights server, I qualified 33rd out of 56 people, and only 0.226 of QuickTime. All qualifying times were within .500!
We started 6th in our heat race, and with a track with not a lot of passing, we were able to pass a car and finish 5th.
-Only taking top 3 to the feature, put us to start 9th in the B-Main. We passed enough cars to take the final transfer spot finishing P4, to start 22nd in the feature race.
-With a couple cautions in the feature gave us enough time to pass cars, regroup, and keep moving through the field. With a tough field of cars, after 35laps, we finished as the hard charger gaining 15 spots ending in 7th place, which locked us in the top 60 points (23rd) to advance to the final race server of the 2022 iRacing Knoxville Nationals.
SATURDAY SUPER SERVER
The final race took the top 60 drivers in points, into a full server, to find out who is the 2022 Knoxville Nationals Champion. With some practice and testing, we were off to a good start, as we came P18 of 60 cars. Our time was 14.400 and QuickTime was 14.267. We were just 0.132 off. With better qualifying efforts, we started in P3 in the 6th heat of the night. Once again there wasn’t any passing, so we finished P3, which was the final transfer spot to the feature.
Finishing 3rd in our heat lined us up to start P18. Lap 2, a couple cars got together in front of us, and going to avoid the wreck, someone behind us decided to push us into the wreck, causing some damage to the car. We were able to get the damage repaired under caution, and tag the rear of the field on lead lap still. Lap 25, we were only up to about 15th running the top line, we hopped the cushion, and spun out to bring the caution out by ourselves. Restarted 16th with 10 laps to go.
We ended up finishing the race without another caution, and in the last 3 laps, we found good speed with our line, and were able to pass a couple cars to finish P10.
From not thinking that we would be able to even have a chance to make points to get into the final session, to finishing top 10 out of a total of roughly 480 drivers.
