PLEASE READ PHOTO DESCRIPTIONS BELOW.
A few photos from our day at the atomic bomb memorial park in Hiroshima. I would like to congratulate Japan on the honesty in their part of WW2 and how they strive to learn lessons so that this NEVER happened again. No selfies out of respect. Some facts first (140,000 people died within 4 months of the bomb and 78,000 where killed instantly, together with and with and unknown 0000’s of cancer for years after.
Photo 1 and 2 - the atomic dome world heritage site - the only building that survived miraculously at the epicentre.
Photo 3 - The peace flame - will never be extinguished till the last nuclear weapon has gone from the planet.
Photo 4 - The peace arch - underneath the names of all 140,000 victims are kept.
Photo 5 - The children’s statue - dedicated to all the children killed and in recognition of Sadako - a 12 year old girl who made 10,000 paper cranes when she was dying of Leukamia caused by the fallout - today the crane is a sign of peace.
Photo 6+7 - the atomic bomb museum with a time piece set at 08-15 - the time the bomb detonated.
Photo 8 - a plaque showing the exact spot 600m above where the bomb was detonated.
I recommended anyone who is lucky enough to visit the amazing country of Japan to visit here.
NEVER AGAIN

THE HAPPIEST day for Rachel, after over 3 months travelling in South America she has plucked up the courage to goto an Argentinian hair salon and she is so pleased with it and it’s not turned green and all the grey has gone !! (only 22,000 pesos / £18) too.

Just spent 3 days in Torres del Paine national park, Chile so no access to any wifi or 4G. Now sat in the middle of nowhere having crossed the border into Argentina and found Wi-Fi.

12 month trip round the world

Just to let you know we are alive and well after 3 days in the salt flats and high altitude in Bolivia. We have now crossed the border into San Pedro Atacama, Chile and out going to take a few days chill out time.
We have loads and loads of amazing photos and videos from the salt flats, it truly was a spectacular place to be, felt like another world, will post when we have had time to chill.
PS never under estimate high altitude - we have been at 4500-5000m for 3 days and it takes it out of you.

Day 3 of Colca Canyon trek. Disappointed I couldn’t quite complete the last day, not ashamed I had to get help from a very kind mule to get my ass up the last bit of the trek. A combination of both my big toes being extremely painful and turning white (really can’t afford my toe nails to fall off ), a really bad pain at the back of my left knee which only later when showering found to be a low grade calf muscle strain and we have a long way to go on our travels including Machhu Picchu in a week. Still and awesome trek
And recommend anyone to give it a go. Met some great people in a group who where supportive - thankyou Lori,Barney and Jasmine I am so glad you got to complete it.

2nd day complete, easier than yesterday but the altitude is starting to take its toll. What I though would be a bit of an uphill at first when flat turned out to be incline followed by more descent which has wrecked my legs and my feet are a mess. At least I get to soak them in the pool here (bonus) ready for a very tough day tomorrow, you really can’t prepare for the altitude like this.
