Grab your scuba suit, because we're heading deep into the ocean for this month's episode! 🌊

This month, we're diving into the mysteries of an animal once thought to be the stuff of legends, capable of sinking entire ships. While those tales might be more fiction than fact, the truth is just as fascinating. We're talking about an actual, real-life giant that roams the ocean's depths. Despite their enormous size, we know surprisingly little about these elusive beings, which makes them all the more intriguing. So, hop into our imaginary submarine as we dive into the depths of the ocean to discover the elusive giant squid 🦑

We love a guest episode here at On Wildlife! 🐾 This month, Alex got to sit down with Douglas Chadwick (Chad), a wildlife biologist who studied mountain goat ecology and social behavior atop the Crown of the Continent for seven years. He has since worked as a natural history journalist, producing hundreds of magazine articles, many of them for the National Geographic Society, on subjects from snow leopards to great whales. He has also written 16 books, three of them (on wolverines, Gobi grizzly bears, and the nature of nature) for Patagonia. Chad is a founding Board member of the , a conservation land trust and serves on the Board of the Liz Claiborne Art Ortenberg Foundation, which supports wildlife research and community conservation programs throughout the world.

Get ready, On Wildlife Flock! This month's episode is straight out of a comic book 💥🗯️📖

This month, Alex sat down with Douglas Chadwick, a wildlife biologist who has dedicated his life to studying animals of all shapes and sizes. He has written articles for the National Geographic Society, and he’s written 16 books, one of which we’ll hear about today. Alex and Chad are chatting about an animal with a pretty mean reputation. But if you’ve ever listened to On Wildlife, you know that how we perceive animals may not always be what they’re actually like. So join Alex and Chad as they talk about a mammal you may have only heard about in comic books: the wolverine!

Did you know raccoons are actually pretty good climbers? They like to live in sparsely wooded areas because of this skill, and will climb trees when they feel threatened. However, they tend to avoid areas with lots of beech trees, because they’re too smooth for them to climb! 🌳

This month, Alex got to sit down with Colby Loucks from the 🐼 Colby Loucks joined WWF as an intern in 1996 and is now the Vice President and Deputy Lead for the Wildlife Program, and Director of WWF’s Wildlife Technology Innovation Lab, which focuses on identifying, piloting and scaling innovative technology solutions to conserve biodiversity & stop poaching.

Early in his WWF career, Colby led ecoregion conservation assessments for North America and the Indo-Pacific region and landscape and ecoregion planning analyses in the eastern Himalayas, Indochina, Mexico and China. Building on his expertise in GIS, conservation biology and landscape ecology – he identified critical unprotected giant panda habitat in China's Shaanxi Province. This work became the foundation for the Chinese government’s decision to more than double the region's protected areas to conserve giant pandas and biodiversity.

Colby has led or contributed to conservation efforts such as the Global 200, global impacts of protected areas on biodiversity and humans, impacts of war and peace to species loss in Cambodia, prioritizing tiger conservation areas, predicting the impact of sea level rise on tiger populations in Bangladesh’s Sundarbans, identification of critical migration corridors for pronghorn antelope in the USA’s Northern Great Plains, and the impact of forest certification on forest loss in Cameroon and Indonesia.

Make sure to check out this month's episode to learn more about Colby, World Wildlife Fund, and the importance of technology in saving wildlife (link in bio)!

We’re BACK, On Wildlife Flock!!! Thanks so much for your patience as we took a well needed break in the month of January. But to kick off February we are ready with an amazing new episode! 🧡💚

This week, we’re talking about an animal whose relatives I’m sure you’re familiar with. Unfortunately, these animals were driven to extinction, but they were still around in the 1900’s so we have a good amount of information on them. But they could also hold the key for how we can bring animals back from being extinct. So let’s hop in a time machine, as we travel back in timearly 20th century to talk about: passenger pigeons 🐦
