Don't forget to be kind to this person 💛✨
But who is this person? Think about it! 🤔
🫂 When your friend comes to you with a problem, an issue or struggle they're experiencing, we listen, we take it slow, we hug, we comfort.
😠 However, if it's us that's struggling with something, we are more prone to engage in negative self-talk, like "I'm not good enough", "What was I thinking", "I'm such a failure".
This seems unfair. Why can we be kinder to others than to ourselves? The most important person in our lifes?
Remember to be kind to yourself too and make sure to catch the full episode 🎧 Links in bio 😉

It's okay not to be okay 🌱
It is healthy and normal for us to feel different emotions.
Throughout time we move through different emotions based on how we are feeling physically, mentally, emotionally, spritually and the list goes on.
We're also influenced by other factors like when did I eat the last time, or did I just receive good/bad news? Many things impact our emotions.
All human emotions can roughly be put in these 6 categories:
- Joy 😊
- Anger 😡
- Love 🥰
- Sadness 😢
- Surprise 😮
- Fear 😨
🌱 Feeling emotions, whether negative or positive is part of life and allows us to understand how we feel, why we feel that way and how we are going to handle this feeling.
Remember a time in the past where you felt sad or angry?
When we're sad and we allow ourselves to embrace this feeling by e.g. crying, we are regulating ourselves and likely we are going to feel better after crying.
When we're angry and allow ourselves to embrace this feeling by e.g. going for a run, boxing or screaming the same effect is very likely to happen and we will feel less angry afterwards.
Feeling your emotions is good and allows us to regulate ourselves, so it's best to learn listening to our bodies when our minds are playing tricks on us: "Stay cold", "Men don't cry" and that kind of BS.

What is something you wished people knew more about you ❓
We love to ask our guests this question. Us humans are very multifaceted and complex creatures. We are so many things, thoughts etc at the same time. No-one knows you as well as you do and there's things about you that few or no-one knows...
So we wonder: What is something about you that you wished people knew more about❓
This is your chance to share it with the world 🤗

How did we meet our first podcast guest? 👀
The most random story ever 😂
As we were returning home from a concert, we saw this guy (Anil) and his friend joking around on the metro. Our looks crossed and we all started smiling.
We got to talk and pretty soon ended up talking about running, then #Movember and soon realized that we're united in our purpose to raise awareness for men's health and our passions for men's work.
What an amazing coincidence!
Anil was going back to the UK a couple days later, so we decided on the spot that he should pop by the next day and that we'd love to have him on the podcast as our first guest.

Try this and give yourself and others a boost 😊
Read the caption below ⬇️ ⬇️ ⬇️
What Anil is talking about here is something we've tried and the outcomes were amazing:
When walking around in the city, we've given random strangers a smile. Similar to what Anil does when he goes for a run.
But the most amazing thing: You not only give the other person a boost, but also yourself! How we know? Well most of the people we smiled at, smiled back at us 😊
So what happens when we smile?
1. The Ripple Effect 🌊
Smiling is contagious: Seeing another person smile or smile at us, often triggers an automatic muscular response, which puts a smile on our face as well.
2. Smiling As A Hack To Feel Better 🥰
Smiling at others may give them a boost, but it also returns the favor. Studies have shown that when we smile, our brains release stress-reducing molecules and bring into play other neurotransmitters like dopamine, serotonin and endorphins which make us feel happier and calmer.
3. The Fake Smile Experiment 🙂
If you don't feel like smiling, that's obviously okay, but try this: Fake a smile and pay attention to how your body reacts to it. This may sound stupid, but it's been proven that even a forced or fake smile releases the same neurotransmitters due to the activation through the face muscles. I just tried it, will you?
Let us know how you experienced giving yourself a "fake" smile
Note: Smiling is not a longterm solution for serious mental health conditions, if you’re suffering from e.g. depression or anxiety, please talk to your physician.

Everything is not always rainbows and butterflies 🌈🦋
Life can be hard, there will be challenges.
Some of these challenges may be mental health related as well.
People who've been through a mental health journey themselves, who learned it the hard way like Anil or who are just naturally more open to talk about mental health can take an important role here.
Like Anil: He's comfortable talking about his mental health and his journey NOW.
It's become his purpose to open and hold space for others to talk about their mental health and realise they're not alone. One man at a time.

🏃♂️ Why run 600km this #Movember?
This year Anil Toraty is running 600km throughout the month of November.
Day 1 - 10km
Day 2 - 20km
Day 3 - 30km
Day 4 - 10km
Day 5 - 20km
and so on....
❓But why is he doing this?
Our mental health is something we'll live with forever and it's a journey we're on and continue to be on whether we want it or not. There will be times when it's easy and times where it gets harder.
Depending on who you are, where you are in life, and how much work you've already done, you'll be dealing with different challenges to your mental health in different periods of your life.
Therefore Anil chose to run 10 - 20 - 30 kilometers to tie this to these periods of his life:
1️⃣0️⃣ - Teens
In his teens, Anil often felt alone and didn't know what was going on or how to deal with his mental health accordingly.
2️⃣0️⃣ - Twenties
In his 20s things got worse. Anil started experiencing negative mental health and unhealthy coping mechanisms as a way to cover up what he was going through. He worked extremely hard, hoping that success would make him feel better. It didn't.
3️⃣0️⃣ - Thirties
In his 30s, Anil has become more accepting of mental health challenges as a part of life and something to deal with in the right manner. He's learned to balance things and take care of his mental health.
🗣️ This year, Anil wants to spark conversations about mental health and beat the negative stigma around men's mental health.
🌱 He continues on his own path, while inspiring others to open up too and take a look at their own mental health.

How can I take care of my mental health early?
The answer is short, but let's elaborate:
Pay attention. Easy right? But what does this actually mean?
Throughout time things require our attention and therefore create small events of stress. This is fine and we can deal with it. "You got this".
Even though we're fine at this point, it is still key to pay attention here. Maybe address some of the things that have come up, or get them off our list.
If we don't pay attention to ourselves and don't turn inward once in a while, we risk something:
❗We risk that these small events of stress accumulate inside us. Some of them may even become bigger or louder, or even build up some anxiety inside us. Until at some point you are forced to pay attention. Because at some point something will come up and throw us over the edge and we'll realise "I don't got this". We struggle with anything that comes up after this point.
We and our 🧠 can only handle so much and it's different for everyone.
That's why it's key to not let things accumulate and eat us up from the inside. Instead let's take some time once in a while to calm down and take a look at our life and with it our mental health.

When should I start talking about my mental health? 🗣️
🏃♂️ When you start running your first kilometer you'll probably be fine afterwards. Even running two kilometers the next day and three the day after that will likely not cause major issues to your physical health.
➡️ However, if you keep increasing the distance you're running, there will be a moment, when you'll start feeling your body and your physical state will slowly become shakier and shakier, as you continue increasing the distance every day.
⏸️ It's similar with your mental health. You may be fine not addressing it today, tomorrow, or even the day after. Mental health is something we deal with every day and there is no "pause" for mental health.
⏰ That's why the best moment to start talking about your mental health is right now!

🌱 Did you know this about people who are working on their mental health? 🌱
People who are actively dealing with or working on their mental health are often very good at endurance sports. But why?
Just like mental health, endurance is something that you can build up.
At the start you may only be able to run a couple kilometres, but with time you can increase the distance and time aka increasing your endurance.
It's similar to mental health, as you deal with it, you evolve, grow thicker skin, and increase your mental health capacity.
For Anil running is also a safe space where he can give and take time for himself to think through some of the things that he's got on at the moment.
A lot of times, running also helps him completely shut off and allow himself to be in stillness while nothing really matters.

Why do you run? 🏃♂️🏃♀️
Do you also feel free and like you're in your own sacred space?
✅ where what's happening around you doesn't matter anymore
✅ where you can think more clearly and feel a sort of flowstate?
✅ where you feel more control over your body and mind?
This is exactly why Anil is running and there's more:
Anil has been struggling with anxiety in the past.
Has running helped with the anxiety?
"Massively!", Anil says.

Is it harder for men to be vulnerable?
In society, men are often seen as weak when they show vulnerability or when they cry. "When a man cries it's a problem."
There is this stigma around what it means to "be a man". What is a "real" man? The one who suppresses their emotions? The one who does not let anyone come close to them? The one who shows vulnerability only when he is alone or not at all?
Let's break free from this stigma and allow ourselves and other men to be vulnerable, to cry, to show their soft side. Because only when we're in touch with all of ourself, the soft and the hard, can we be fully ourselves and free. Free from stigma.
This is what it means to be a real man.
Give episode 3 "Can Men Be Vulnerable?" a listen to hear the full conversation.
#RealMan #Vulnerability #VulnerableMan #BeAMan #Stigma #FreeFromStigma #MensHealth #MensMentalHealth #Podcast
Why is it so hard to be vulnerable?
We're trying to numb ourselves by drinking, social media and other distractions like spending time with a lot of people (ever heard of FOMO) just so we don't have to be with ourselves.
We're scared, scared to be judged, scared of rejection.
Living a pretend life can feel good for a while, but it's not our life we're living, so eventually it'll feel wrong.
When you feel the calling, do an effort and get out of the loop. Guide yourself towards the way you want to live and embrace your authentic self.
Listen to episode 3 "Can Men Be Vulnerable?" where we talk about the importance and benefits of showing vulnerability in your relationships with others and yourself.
