Known for its blend of Cycladic charm and cosmopolitan energy, Mykonos entices wanderlust travellers with its turquoise waters, traditional, white-washed architecture, and lively nightlife.
Opened in 2022, Once in Mykonos offers the ideal destination to explore the island, conveniently located just a short drive from its mythological and archaeological sites and its harbour restaurants, where guests can sample fresh Mediterranean cuisine, and relax on the remote white-sand beaches.

Strategically situated on the island’s southwest coastline and overlooking the iconic Ornos beach, the resort is just a 10 minutes’ drive from Mykonos Old Town. Known locally as Chora, the island’s port town and capital allures visitors with its quaint windmills, historical mansions and art galleries, and array of tantalising restaurants and bars. Other popular attractions include the charming Little Venice, a neighbourhood filled with 18th century Greek fishing houses; the iconic 16th century windmills (Kato Mili), and Paraportiani Church, dating back to 1475.

At Once In Mykonos, the hotel’s dedicated concierge service is on-hand to assist with guests’ desires. Private cruises take guests on a journey of discovery around the island’s picturesque bays and hidden coves, as well as tours of neighbouring islands, Delos and Rhenia. The hotel can also arrange private sea excursions by RIB and scuba diving to see Greece’s diverse marine life and traces of the Greek and Roman empire’s ancient ruins under water.

For those looking to relax at the hotel, Once in Mykonos offers a host of wellness and spa activities at SOSPA. From relaxing sunset yoga sessions with their qualified trainers to holistic rituals encompassing the latest technology and innovation.

Celebrating the conviviality and flavours of the Aegean, the hotel’s fine-dining Infinity Restaurant focuses on carefully sourced and refined Mediterranean cuisine, overlooking Ornos Beach and tranquil ocean vistas beyond. Against the backdrop of the Aegean sunsets, guests can enjoy theatrical cocktails and innovative mocktails at the vibrant Infinity Bar in a relaxed poolside setting soundtracked by live DJs.

A former luxury villa – frequented by artists, intellectuals, and people of influence – Once in Mykonos has been reimagined under the expert eye of designer and architect Fivos Stavrides of F Studio Designers. Once In Mykonos’s concept has been dreamt up to revive its single purpose: to keep welcoming guests on the island and bring its past to light through genuine hospitality. The resort boasts a stunning infinity pool, 59 elegant rooms with minimalist interiors, including three Signature Suites and two 2-bedroom villas with private pools. Rooms are spacious and light against the backdrop of the turquoise Aegean, and the villas are the perfect choice for guests looking for privacy and space.

Inspired by ancient Greek amphitheatres, the resort expertly combines impressive infrastructure and authentic Cycladic style with eco-friendly, post-modern design. Boho-chic interiors are achieved with whitewashed walls and the use of locally sourced, natural materials. Stavrides succeeds in bringing the outside in with Mykonian stone, copper and natural reeds all a significant source of inspiration for the architect and his vision for the resort.

Those looking to prolong their summer with an escape in September can take advantage of Mykonos’ mild Mediterranean climate and warm waters, quieter attractions with less tourists and relaxed nightlife. Those looking for a more relaxed conclusion to their summer, can book in October to enjoy a more laid-back break prior to the hotel closing for the season on the 11 October.

With hotel rates on popular islands like Santorini and Mykonos easily costing $500+ a night during the peak summer season, it can make a trip to the Greek islands seem out of reach.

Not to mention, the summer crowds on popular Greek islands can be unbearable.

But the island of Naxos is still an underrated and more affordable destination for travelers who are looking to experience Greek island luxury on a budget.
Naxos is the largest island in the Cyclades chain, which also consists of popular destinations like Santorini and Mykonos.

Being the largest island, Naxos is less touristic and has more space and fewer crowds than its more popular counterparts, while still retaining the same beauty and charm. (Think white-washed buildings and spectacular sunsets.)

There’s something for everyone on Naxos, whether you’re interested in beaches, history and culture, or outdoor adventure activities.
Naxos has so much more to offer than just beautiful beaches.

The main town Chora is a great place to explore, and the ancient ruin of the Temple of Apollo is one of the best places on the island to watch the sunset.

Naxos is also a great island for hiking, with numerous trails around the coast and the island’s interior. Some of the best hiking trails will lead you to more ruins, like the ancient Temple of Demeter and the Temple of Dionysus.

“We are thrilled to witness the culmination of our tireless efforts as we successfully launch the first-ever direct scheduled flights between Iceland and Athens. This significant milestone in Icelandic aviation history is a testament to the dedication and hard work of our entire team. Moreover, this route serves as a vital link to PLAY’s North American destinations, strengthening our commitment to connecting global travellers with affordable flights. Portugal and Greece strike deal
Portugal and Greece will cooperate in the field of civil protection to respond to common problems in terms of forest fires, floods and seismic risk, according to a decree approved by the Government.

“Portugal and Greece have common problems regarding forest fires, floods and seismic risk, justifying the cooperation agreement in the area of civil protection, which will allow the exchange of technical experiences and joint participation in large-scale exercises, and since 2018 , negotiations for this bilateral cooperation agreement began”, says the MAI.

According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the urgency in concluding this agreement had become evident during the fires that occurred in Greece in July 2018, with Portugal sending five dozen elements of the Special Firefighters Force (FEB).

14/03/2023

Despite the increase in the minimum amount of investment and the fact that several countries are already abolishing such schemes, the Golden Visa Programme of Greece continues to attract a large number of wealthy foreign investors, especially Americans.

According to a recent report by CNBC, the interest of foreigners in the Hellenic Republic’s Residency by Investment scheme almost doubled last year, with a total of 2,767 requests registered by the Greece Ministry of Asylum and Migration, or up from 1,521 registered in 2021, http://ow.ly/l1sc50NhAUt reports.

The same notes that the majority of applicants for Greece’s Golden Visa last year were Chinese citizens, accounting for a total of 63 per cent of the total number of requests since the scheme became effective in 2014.

In addition, applications for Golden Visas from wealthy internationals from the United States also increased significantly.

Previously, the Prime Minister of Greece, Kyriakos Mitsotakis, announced that the minimum amount of investment for the Golden Visa scheme in some parts of the Hellenic Republic would increase from 250,000 to 500,000 euros.

“In order to increase the affordability of real estate for Greeks, we are now increasing the minimum amount of investment required for the issuance of a golden visa from €250,000 to €500,000 (£434,000, $500,000),” the Prime Minister of Greece confirmed, according to a report provided by International Adviser.

Greece local media reports noted that the changes applied to the country’s Golden Visa would include the North Part of Greece, the Central and South Sector of Athens in the Attica Area, as well as the islands of Mykonos and Santorini and the Municipality of Thessaloniki.

Euronews has announced a list of six Greek islands as part of a targeted EOT program.
It included: Tilos, Hydra, Astypalea, Paros, Lipsi and Andros. According to the international news network, Astypalea stands out from other islands with its “revolutionary transformation”, becoming “smart” (in terms of technology) and sustainable islands.

Lipsi has become an “ecological paradise” without organized sun loungers, while Tilos stands out for its energy autonomy through solar and wind energy. The island of Hydra is different – no cars are allowed here, while efforts are being made in Paros to reduce waste drastically. Andros completes the list with a public awareness initiative on the importance of the underwater ecosystem.

According to the rating compilers, everything shown in Greece, Italy, and other European tourist markets will increase passenger traffic in the upcoming season. “Recently, we have created a new momentum for the tourism sector, which has been impressive, even against international performance.

Suffice it to say that tourist arrival in 2022 increased by 17.9% compared to 2019. Stability, strengthened by our systematic efforts, has played a vital role in tourism development. Last year, there was a lot of interest in Greece from foreign visitors, which makes us optimistic about the upcoming 2023 season,” said Mayor of Astypalia Nikos Komineas.

The official advice anyone going to Spain, Greece or Turkey on holiday this year need to read

Covid, entry rules, new laws, ID requirements, threats and travel issues

With the summer holidays here many of us will be planning on jetting off for a well deserved break.

After years of limited travel because of Covid we are at last getting back to some kind of normality (at least in some places). However even before Covid travel was never risk free. Different laws, cultures and climates can be pitfalls for unwary travellers.

Kolymbithres Beach, Paros

Kolymbithres on the island of Paros is distinguished by its distinctive scenery of granite rock formations. This breathtaking stretch of coastline is really a series of little coves with sandy beaches. The Greek term “Kolymbithres” translates to “swimming pools,” which characterizes the shoreline’s little bays with their shallow, tranquil waters admirably.

Kolymbithres has less amenities than larger resort beaches. However, sun loungers and parasols may be rented at several of the beaches. There are also water sports facilities.

A few traditional Greek tavernas are available for dining. The Anemos Taverna, located on a hill above the beach, has a sheltered outdoor deck with sea views. The Anemos Beach Club, located right on the beach, includes a simple café with shaded patio dining and rents out sun loungers and water sports equipment.

Naoussa, a postcard-perfect coastal hamlet with classic Cycladic whitewashed buildings, is a short bus or car ride away from Kolymbithres. The beaches of Kolymbithres are also accessible from the Naoussa harbor via caiques (traditional fishing boats).

Porto Katsiki, Lefkada

The meandering road leading to Porto Katsiki foreshadows the natural magnificence of this stunning beach. The beach is hidden behind sheer limestone cliffs and can only be reached by an 80-step climb or by taxi boat. The remote location, with its beautiful sapphire seas, has a genuinely mystical sense about it.

The beach in Porto Katsiki offers a lengthy beachfront with lots of room for sunbathing. Rentable lounge chairs and parasols are available. A few snack restaurants provide beverages at the top of the stairs leading to the beach.

Swimming, sailing, and bodyboarding are popular activities when the circumstances are favorable (calm waters and soft breezes). Because the beach lacks water sports amenities, guests must bring their own. Despite the fact that the beach is popular during the summer months (July and August), there are no lifeguards on duty.

Plaka Beach is relatively undeveloped, enabling tourists to admire the natural beauty. Plaka Beach is ideal for leisure due to its beautiful surroundings.

During the summer, this beach becomes quite crowded with people sunbathing on the sand and strolling along the shore. Rentable sun beds and parasols are available.

Plaka Beach has beachfront hotels, snack bars, and cafés behind the sand dunes. Several classic Greek tavernas in Plaka serve great local cuisine on outdoor terraces (some with splendid sea views). Plaka’s extensive inventory of lodgings will also appeal to visitors.

Thessaloniki, Greece

"Thessaloniki may still be losing out to Athens when it comes to tourists, but Greece’s second city is well worth a visit. Come for the world-class food scene—Thessalonki was named Greece’s first ‘City of Gastronomy’ by UNESCO in November 2021—and stay for the fun, creative vibe (owing in part to the large student population). While its historical offering is perhaps a little less grandiose than the Acropolis, it is no less rich: think a well-preserved Roman forum, the frescoes of the Rotunda, and Ottoman hamams.

What many people don't know about the city—and, indeed, I was unaware of until I actually lived there—is its rich multicultural heritage. In the early 20th century, for example, Thessaloniki had the largest Jewish population in Europe, and the legacy of this Jewish community (particularly when it comes to architecture) is all around, if you know where to look. All of this while maintaining a decidedly relaxed outlook—Athens residents will often jokingly use the term ‘halara’ in relation to Thessaloniki, denoting the city's chilled-out atmosphere and slower pace of life." —E.M.

Navagio Beach, Zakynthos

This lovely beach is only accessible by organized boat excursion since it is hidden within a tight bay and surrounded by sheer rocks. The Zakynthos Shipwreck Beach Excursion allows visitors to see the beach, swim in the water, and explore surrounding sea caves.

The spectacular landscape, excellent white-sand beach, and cerulean water that appears almost tropical entice visitors. Unfortunately, the abundance of tourists sometimes detract from the picturesque setting.

Because of the wrecked smugglers’ ship that remains on the beach, Navagio Beach is also known as Shipwreck Beach. Navagio Beach is located on Zakynthos, one of the most beautiful of the Ionian Islands.
