As Ramadan begins, ATMs across Karachi and Pakistan face severe cash shortages, leaving customers frustrated. With increased withdrawals for shopping and household expenses, long queues formed outside ATMs on Saturday evening and Sunday morning.

The shortage is worsened by banks remaining closed on Monday for Zakat deductions. A banker cited the Ramadan rush and Sunday’s banking holiday as key reasons for the crisis. Many also withdrew cash early to avoid Zakat deductions.
United Bank Limited (UBL) had earlier notified customers about service disruptions from 12 a.m. to 10 a.m. on Sunday due to Zakat processing.

Pakistan currently has 19,170 ATMs, as per the State Bank of Pakistan’s (SBP) latest report. However, many machines are struggling to meet the demand.

At the time of reporting, responses from SBP and other banks were awaited regarding measures to address the situation.

FIFA has officially lifted the suspension on the Pakistan Football Federation (PFF) after the PFF Congress approved key constitutional amendments.

Shahid Khokhar, a member of the PFF Normalization Committee, confirmed the development, expressing gratitude to FIFA and the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) for their support.

Last month, FIFA had suspended Pakistan’s membership due to the Congress’s failure to approve electoral reforms.

However, following an extraordinary meeting on Thursday, the newly elected PFF Congress accepted FIFA’s proposed amendments with a majority vote, clearing the way for reinstatement.

This decision marks a significant step for Pakistan’s football, allowing the country to rejoin international competitions and regain its status in global football.

With FIFA’s backing restored, hopes are high for the sport’s revival in Pakistan.

Despite Sui Southern Gas Company’s (SSGC) promises of an "uninterrupted gas supply" during Ramadan, Karachi faced severe gas shortages on the first day of fasting.

SSGC had assured gas availability from 3 AM to 9 AM for Sehri and 3:30 PM to 10 PM for Iftar. However, residents in areas like Liaquatabad, North Nazimabad, North Karachi, PIB Colony, Gulshan-e-Iqbal, and Gulistan-e-Johar reported either low pressure or complete gas suspension.

Citizens struggled to prepare meals, adding to their hardships. Despite widespread complaints, an SSGC spokesperson denied load shedding, claiming that 95% of the city received gas, while only 5% faced disruptions.

The gas crisis has left Karachiites frustrated, especially during the holy month, with many demanding immediate action. The situation remains critical, raising concerns about further disruptions during Ramadan.

Health experts in Pakistan have warned against excessive consumption of deep-fried foods during Ramadan, urging people to opt for healthier alternatives.

As millions observed the first fast, nutritionists highlighted the risks of consuming samosas, spring rolls, and fried doughnuts, which can cause bloating, dehydration, and digestive issues.

A Doctor emphasized that oily and high-calorie foods worsen health problems, advising people to break their fast with dates and water, followed by lean proteins, whole grains, and steamed vegetables.

Another Doctor stressed that making informed food choices is crucial for maintaining energy levels and overall well-being during Ramadan. Experts recommend fresh fruits, nuts, and grilled foods over sugary drinks and rich desserts.

Ramadan is not just a time for spiritual reflection but also an opportunity to adopt a healthier lifestyle. Choosing nutritious meals can ensure a fulfilling and healthy fasting experience.

Former Pakistan interim head coach Mohsin Khan made a bold statement, calling Virat Kohli "zero" compared to Babar Azam. Speaking on a local TV show, Mohsin emphasized that Pakistan cricket’s decline is due to a lack of planning, merit, and accountability.

He criticized the system, stating that personal interests have ruined the team’s progress. Highlighting his tenure as chief selector, he claimed to have prioritized merit-based selection.

Meanwhile, Babar Azam continues to struggle with the bat, failing to score a century since August 2023. Despite being promoted as an opener in the ongoing ICC Men’s Champions Trophy 2025, he has managed only modest scores of 10, 23, 29, 64, and 23.

The pressure mounts on Babar as scrutiny intensifies over his inability to deliver big innings across formats. Pakistan cricket remains in turmoil, with concerns over leadership and performance.
