Possible Canonization of Bl. Pier Giorgio Frassati may occur in 2025 at the Jubilee of Youth. Bl. Pier Giorgio has been a patron of many World Youth Day’s and with the news coming out today from the Dicastery for the Cause of Saints, we could soon be calling on the intercession of St. Pier Giorgio Frassati!

25 March 2019 – 5 years ago, Pope Francis published the post-synodal exhortation , as the fruit of the work of the XV Ordinary General Assembly of the Synod.va of Bishops on .

25 March 2024 – Five years later, today, Pope Francis addresses again an important message to young people:

“Christ is alive and he wants you to be alive! This certainty always makes my heart overflow with joy, and now it inspires me to write you this Message […] Above all, I would like my words to be a source of renewed for you. In today’s world, marked by so many conflicts and so much suffering, I suspect that many of you feel disheartened. So together with you, I would like to set out from the proclamation that is the basis of our hope and that of all humanity: 'Christ is !'."

Thanks, Pope Francis!

A couple of weeks ago I was blessed to have had the opportunity to hear Archbishop Ganswein at a black tie event in Philadelphia.

Archbishop Ganswein was the former prefect of the Papal Household under Benedict XVI and Pope Francis. He was also the personal secretary to Joseph Cardinal Ratzinger, who later became Pope Benedict XVI.

His presentation was on the legacy of Benedict XVI. ’Caritas in Veritatis’

I even got him to sign a book he wrote for my colleague. A true holy man!

He confirmed the story that I always knew… At WYD Madrid 2008 - at the vigil he went up to Benedict XVI and told him that they were going to evacuate him due to the storm but the Holy Father told him…. If these young people stay so will I! 🙌

Top 10 statements made by Pope St John XXIII…

1. In reply to a reporter who asked,
“How many people work in the Vatican?”, He reportedly said: “About half of them.”

2. Pope John became pope right after the long papacy of Pope Pius XII, a slender, aristocratic man born to a wealthy family. “My God, he is fat!” whispered one woman to her friend. The pope turned on his heels, faced the women with a smile and commented, “But, Madam, you must know that the conclave is not exactly a beauty contest!”

3. Visiting a hospital, he asked a boy what he wanted to be when he grew up. The boy said either a policeman or a pope. "I would go in for the police if I were you,"
the pope said. "Anyone can become a pope, look at me!"

4. "It often happens that I wake up at night and begin to think about the serious problems afflicting the world and I tell myself, ‘I must talk to the pope about it.’ Then the next day when I wake up I remember that I am the pope."

5. When a cardinal complained that a rise in Vatican salaries meant a particular usher earned as much as the cardinal, the pope remarked: "That usher has 10 children; I hope the cardinal doesn't."

6. "Holy Father, I'm the mother superior of the Holy Spirit."
He replied: "Lucky you! What a job! I'm just the 'servant of the servants of God.' "

7. "There are three ways to face ruin: women, gambling and farming.
My father chose the most boring one."

8. "You and I have one thing in common: money. You have a lot and I have nothing at all. The difference is I don't care about it."

9. When a journalist asked the then-patriarch of Venice what he would be if he could live his life all over again, the future pope said, "Journalist." Then he said with a smile, "Now let us see if you have the courage to tell me that, if you could do it all over again, you'd be the patriarch!"

10. A Vatican official told the pope it would be "absolutely impossible" to open the Second Vatican Council by 1963. "Fine, we'll open it in 1962," he answered. And he did.

I have heard a lot about some of the issues surrounding World Youth Day in Lisbon that I decided to do a video addressing as many as I could. Forgive me if i did not get to them all but many of the people who have attacked Lisbon were those who were not there or they were and were confused. This was not my first WYD experience and probably wont be my last.
Sometimes the best thing to do is avoid the catholic media all together. It saddens me when all I hear is controversies that continue to divide rather than unite. A lot is just click bait, classic example is what is coming out now from the Pope's private visit to members of the Jesuit order in Lisbon.
Regardless of what your thoughts are on Pope Francis, we need to pray for him, he is the Successor of St. Peter and the Bishop of Rome. We need to pray for each young person who attended WYD. We need to pray for the people who of Lisbon, who graciously hosted the largest event in the world, and lastly, we need to pray for the people of Seoul, blessed to be hosting WYD in 2027.
May Mary's Immaculate Heart inspire us all to bring Christ to the ends of the Earth! Pax Christi...

Were there any issues at WYD? What I have heard versus what happened? Could things have been better? Why do I keep hearing about all of the negatives? ...

11/07/2023

I can assure all of you that WYD is more than just an encounter with other young people from around the world. WYD is an encounter with Christ, not an encounter with the Pope, not with the Bishops, not with other religious groups. Although all of those are good and wonderful, they are not the reason why St. John Paul II launched these gatherings.

I find the whole situation strange as if we were trying to be more inclusive. We are called to Communion, that also means to conversion. That is why, at the heart of WYD, is Mass and adoration. The cross and the Icon of our Lady…. How can we not see that Christ is at the heart of everything WYD does and stands for.

I can assure all of you World Youth Day .com will be dedicated to stream and share nothing but authentic testimonies of encounters that have lead to many conversions and vocations! John Paul II didn’t start world youth day to just hang out but to call young people to radically reorient their lives to Christ himself!

Bishop Américo Aguiar, an auxiliary bishop of Lisbon, made the statement July 6 in an interview with RTP Notícias.

Who is going to save our Church? Not our bishops, not our priests and religious. It is up to you, the people. You have the minds, the eyes, and the ears to save the Church. Your mission is to see that your priests act like priests, your bishops act like bishops, and your religious act like religious. – Fulton J. Sheen

An inspiring quote that reminds me of how critical our work is… This weekend over 110 leaders from 79 organizations, 22 countries gather in Rome to collaborate in the 2000th anniversary of the death and resurrection of Christ Jesus in 2033. I am so blessed to be a part of this opportunity.

“One mission is greater than a thousand options” - WYD 2008

I sat down with Cardinal Pell in September as we remembered how impactful World Youth Day Sydney 2008 was to Australia. He also shared with me how grateful he was for the prayers and support of those who wrote to him while in prison.

He passed away this morning at the age of 81.

Requiem aeternam dona eis, Domine. Et lux perpetua luceat eis.
Fidelium animae, per misericordiam Dei, requiescant in pace. ~Amen~

“The world offers you comfort. But you were not made for comfort. You were made for greatness…”

Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI has died at the age of 95. The oldest Pope in the History of the Church.

Besides meeting him when he was just a simple Cardinal working at the Congregation for Defending the Faith, one of my fondest memories of him was at World Youth Day in Madrid. He didn’t rush to conclude the vigil, rather, he waited out a storm and then lead the 1.5 Million young people gathered to an amazing holy hour.

It is Jesus that you seek when you dream of happiness; He is waiting for you when nothing else you find satisfies you; He is the beauty to which you are so attracted; it is He who provoked you with that thirst for fullness that will not let you settle for compromise; it is He who urges you to shed the masks of a false life; it is He who reads in your heart your most genuine choices, the choices that others try to stifle.

It is Jesus who stirs in you the desire to do something great with your lives, the will to follow an ideal, the refusal to allow yourselves to be ground down by mediocrity, the courage to commit yourselves humbly and patiently to improving yourselves and society, making the world more human and more fraternal.

Today is the feast day Bl. Carlo Acutis and the 2nd Anniversary of his Beatification.

In these last two years his story has travelled to all over the world and has inspired many young people to look at their lives and make life plans that focus on radiating our Blessed Lord in their lives.

‘Not me but you Lord!’

This week in Assisi, a food center was dedicated on behalf of the charitable works that Carlo was involved in. Fitting that it would be placed in Assisi, the town of St. Francis, the saint of the poor.

Bl. Carlo’s life, though cut short at the age of 15, is a reminder to be present to one another at each moment of our lives.

‘Whatever you do for the least ones of your neighbors, you have done unto me’

Be inspired to live a life for others, to be the light of Christ in the world, to seek out the Eucharist, and be in the state of grace like Carlo! The path of sainthood is tough, but Carlo had a formula that I think we can all easily follow!

Today, Holy Mother the Church celebrates the feast of Our Lady of the Most Holy Rosary! Here are a couple of amazing quotes from the Saints on this important devotion...

"There is no problem, I tell you, no matter how difficult it is, that we cannot resolve by reciting the Holy Rosary" - Sr. Lucia, Visionary of Fatima

"The holy Rosary is a powerful weapon. Use it with confidence and you'll be amazed at the results." - St. Josemaria Escriva.

"Let us run to Mary, and, as her little children, cast ourselves into her arms with a perfect confidence." - St. Francis de Sales.

"If you say the Rosary faithfully until death, I do assure you that, in spite of the gravity of your sins, you shall receive a never-fading crown of glory." - St. Louis De Montfort

"Give me an army saying the Rosary and I will conquer the world." - Bl. Pope Pius IX

"If families give Our Lady fifteen minutes a day by reciting the Rosary, I assure them that their homes will become, by God’s grace, peaceful places." - Vn. Patrick Peyton (Founder of the Family Rosary Crusade)

"The Rosary is the most beautiful and the most rich in graces of all prayers; it is the prayer that touches most the Heart of the Mother of God…and if you wish peace to reign in your homes, recite the family Rosary." - Pope St. Pius X

"The Rosary is the book of the blind, where souls see and there enact the greatest drama of love the world has ever known; it is the book of the simple, which initiates them into mysteries and knowledge more satisfying than the education of other men; it is the book of the aged, whose eyes close upon the shadow of this world, and open on the substance of the next. The power of the Rosary is beyond description." - Vn. Fulton Sheen.

"How beautiful is the family that recites the Rosary every evening!" - Pope St. John Paul II

07/10/2022

Today marks the 451st anniversary of one of the most important battles in European history, the Battle of Lepanto, called "the battle that saved Europe".

The battle took place in the Gulf of Patras off the coast of Greece on 7 October 1571. The Holy League (a Christian coalition organized by Pope Pius V, composed of Venice, Genoa, Tuscany, Urbino, Savoy, the Papal States, the Knights of Malta and the Spanish Empire with Naples and Sicily) defeated the Islamic forces of the Ottoman Empire, which were intent on conquering the West.

It was the first major victory of a Western Christian fleet against the Ottoman Empire. It was also was one of the largest naval battles of all time, being the largest naval engagement since the Battle of Actium in 31 BC. Approximately 40.000 men died in 4 hours (equal to about 166 deaths per minute), the highest casualty rate of any battle until World War I. The battle remains the largest naval defeat inflicted against Muslims in history.

The Feast of Our Lady of Victory (also called Feast of the Holy Rosary) was instituted by the Church on 7 October to commemorate the battle.

Commanders of the Battle of Lepanto:

• Don Juan de Austria, first in command
• Marcantonio Colonna, second in command
• Agostino Barbarigo, left
• Giovanni Andrea Doria, right
• Álvaro de Bazán, rearguard
• Juan de Cardona, vanguard

Angele Dei,
qui custos es mei,
Me tibi commissum pietate superna;
Hodie illumina, custodi, rege, et guberna.
Amen.

Angel of God,
my guardian dear,
To whom his love commits me here;
Ever this day be at my side,
To light and guard, to rule and guide.
Amen.

This prayer, although commonly attributed to St. Anselm, was more likely written by Reginald of Canterbury, a 12th century Benedictine monk. The Latin poem was later added to the works of St. Anselm – I suppose to give it added importance. But it has its own beauty, simplicity and power, no matter who wrote it.
