On this last day of Kwanzaa and the first day of a new year, we always say this prayer as we light the last candle:
May I always remember my ancestors with reverence and love. May I benefit from their wisdom and strength as I seek to preserve and continue the heritage they left me. May the Nguzo Saba become beacons for me to live my life in service, humility, grace, and strength.
Strive for discipline, dedication, and achievement in all you do. Dare struggle and sacrifice and gain the strength that comes from this. Build where you are and dare leave a legacy that will last as long as the sun shines and the water flows. Practice daily Umoja, Kujichagulia, Ujima, Ujamaa, Nia, Kuumba, and Imani. And may the wisdom of the ancestors always walk with us. May the year’s end meet us laughing, and stronger. May our children honor us by following our example in love and struggle. And at the end of next year, may we sit together again, in larger numbers, with greater achievement and closer to liberation and a higher level of life.

Happy Kwanzaa! Happy New Year!

Most people would describe their mother as strong. In a majority of the cases it’s because she’s fought through things we as children will never know and understand, but in all cases it’s because she prayed for us, lifted us up, spoke life to us, cheered us on, and made some sacrifices even though difficult, was the best decision for her children. We as mothers are strong not because we always push through, but because we take care of us understanding a whole healthy woman is a phenomenally strong mother.
Let a mother you have, know, and love understand how you feel about them on Mother’s Day!!!!

Every book I buy I do so with the intention of reading. HOWEVER, for years I let “life” get in the way to me reading and edifying myself. I am an avid tv watcher and I was like I don’t have the time to read while I was watching rerun episodes of tv shows that I had seen multiple times. Even my children were like haven’t you seen this already? Yes they checked me. Then I was like how can I spark their love for reading if I’m not leading my example? How will the know the love for reading of I’m showing them that tv is more important? So I decided to transition from being a book buyer and collector to more of an avid reader. I decided I would make time to read and show them better than I could tell them.
I was anti audio book but since I do have businesses to run, a house to keep organized and clean, and planning to be done. I decided I’m also going to give that a try this year as well and get some options for my children too so they can intermittently listen to books as well.
This is important to our family legacy and future.
