Matt did not deserve this. Matt deserved to live a healthy life without judgement from people that didn't even know him.

There was another shooting in Charleston where the police shot a man right after carrying a casket. They called his name and shot him. He allegedly had warrants and a weapon. The police are shooting people just to shoot them. When will this end? When will something be done? AND Matthew didn't deserve to be killed.

In order to receive help from our system, you need an I.D.

In order to obtain an I.D., you need your SSC, Birth Certificate and proof of address.

Matt was living with me. His mother had his SSC and Birth Certificate. He and his mother were not speaking, so he was unable to get those things. It is a long process to get those things in the first place, but knowing that you are running out of medication that you know you need AND have your probation officer calling several times a day to "check-in" can become a bit stressful.

Matt finally had an appointment at Northwestern Community Services for an appointment to get his medications. We sat in the waiting room for 8+ hours as the second walk-in of the day. It wasn't until I caused a scene that they finally called him to the back. They informed him the doctor had already left for the day and they would be calling to arrange an APPOINTMENT so he could be prescribed his medications. They never called. THEY.NEVER.CALLED.

Matt had already been out of medication. He was so scared he would run out and he did. HE TRIED to get his medication, but because he was fresh out of a two year jail term and did not have the proper identification, he was denied help.

It should not be that difficult to get help. If you have depression, then you know how difficult it is to even get out of bed sometimes.

The prosecutor is siding with the police. That is to be expected. Matthew didn't shoot the first shot, he did not point the weapon at anyone, so now they are turning to calling him a drug addict. Matt was NOT addicted to any drugs. Matt drank, he loved his vodka. Matt was not drunk nor high the time of his death. There is a woman claiming she was there at the time of the shooting, claiming Matthew fired the first shot, HE DID NOT. IT IS IMPOSSIBLE.

I have been a bit distant on this as I am trying to gather myself from not having him around, but I will get there and this fight is far from over.

WV State Police have handed over Matthews case to the prosecutor. No word on the case since it happened, no press conference, NOTHING. Please continue to share the video and Matts name to bring more attention.

This was Matt's #1 favorite song. If you have never heard it, take the time to listen to it.

Matt spent a lot of the time on the road. He was an arborist and a tattoo artist. If he wasn't working, he was looking for work or visiting friends. Matt was an amazing artist, arborist and comedian.
He would constantly stop at a gas station and interact with people just to make them laugh. Seeing a smile on someones face was his goal every day, and he made sure he was the reason for that.

Looking at Matt, you wouldn't see his talent. He was extremely good looking (he could have been a model) and covered in tattoos and had huge muscles. No one ever really gave him a chance, they always judged him by his appearance. Once you let him in though, he would steal your heart. Everyone who let him in and gave him a chance loved him, and he loved them back. Always went out of his way to do things for them.

He did a job for a woman who was dying of cancer, she was on oxygen and couldn't go anywhere because she didn't have enough oxygen to get there. Matt went out of his way to go grocery shopping for her and cut down three trees for free. The trees were in a dangerous spot near her house, and they would have fallen on her home.

Matt would stop and give anyone a ride he saw walking on the side of the road. It didn't matter what they looked like, male or female, he would stop and take them wherever they needed to go. He gave his last dollar to the homeless quite a few times. He gave his shoes to a homeless man and gave the homeless man some clothes and asked him if he wanted to come to our motel room to take a shower. The man declined the offer, but still. Matt had a heart of gold.

He would be driving down the road jamming out to this song here, and see a turtle on the road, he would back up, pull over and stop traffic just to save the turtle. Matt loved animals, he loved the wildlife despite being a "city boy" which is exactly what he called himself. He claimed he had no idea how to start a fire, but I didn't believe him, and luckily for me I didn't because that man could make a fire regardless if the wood was wet or not. A man of many talents.

I just wanted to share this with everyone. Matt had demons, but he didn't let them get in the way of him living a fun filled life. He made sure to smile and make everyone else smile because he KNEW what it felt like to have nothing, to be in their position. Matt deserved love and a good life. Unfortunately, it was ended too soon. He is FREE at last

This was one of Matt's favorite songs. He had these lyrics tattooed on his leg "When all your money is gone, where will you be" He would sing this loud, with the windows down and the biggest smile on his face. He told me that he would listen to this growing up when he was at his lowest. It got him through a lot. Just thought I would share.

Matt and his brother Mark Jones. Matt had the same tattoo on his rib that had Marks name. They were best friends growing up going through hell together. They relied on no one but each other. Matt and Mark shared their differences, but it didn't come between the brotherly love they had for each other. Matt hadn't spoken to Mark in quite some time in 2020, when he and I went to visit Ryan Marquis grave. He met up with Mark and gave him the biggest hug I've ever seen him give anyone, they both cleaned up Ryan's grave together then left together spending quality time they both needed. Matt spent every single day from then on out with Mark and his family spending quality time and building better relationships with them. Matt fell in love with his new sister-in-law Nicole and began building a relationship with her as well. Matt spent his time swinging on the tire swing in their yard with their kids Daisy, Anthony and Lucas and having bon fires. When Mark and Nicole had their twins Matt was EAGER to meet them and give them the Uncle Matt experience. Unfortunately, Matt was incarcerated in 2020 before they were born, but he made sure to call them and check on them, and would ask about them every single day once they were born. Mark was in an accident after Matt was incarcerated and he asked me to drive two hours on bad ball joints to make sure Nicole and the kids were ok and to check on his brother. He called me a good 15 times on the way there, and several times once I got there so he could talk to Nicole to reassure her that she knew no matter the differences they had, he would always be there for them and he was.

Matt loved Mark, Nicole and those kids dearly and never missed an opportunity to show them just how much. Matt had his reasons for distancing himself, but the main reason was so he could become the best brother, brother-in-law and Uncle he could be. Unfortunately his life was cut very short and he wasn't able to speak to them again before his passing, but he made sure to let me know often how much he appreciated Mark and the things he had done for him growing up. Even now, Mark and Nicole are one of the only people who have spread the word of his mental illnesses and have tried to get him the justice he deserves.

Matt loved you guys immensely and was extremely grateful for you.❤️

Please continue to share. Matthew should have never been denied treatment, but once again, because of his "criminal history" he unfortunately was. He did his very best to deal with what he was dealt and I must say, he did a wonderful job at doing so. There were MANY things that happened before this that lead to his breakdown which I will talk about in the future. As of right now, let's see if we can save a few lives that are similar to Matthews. Share and spread the word. I will never give up.

They took Matt and I both to get gas, food and water. They didn't have to and in fact Matt didn't think they were going to.. he and I both laid down in the tent scared to death about what was going to happen next. But sure enough, they came. And we smoked with them when we got back. They truly saved our lives and had no idea that they even did. We were starving at that point. After we smoked and they went back to their camp, we left to get more food and shop for what we needed. When we arrived back to camp later that evening, they were gone. Matt said "I'm going to miss those guys, I definitely have to tat them up"

Matthew Scott Jones was killed by WV Police in Bradley West Virginia on July 6, 2022. Matthew struggled with mental illness his entire life and attempted to get help throughout his life. Instead of finding medication to help with his mental illnesses he was locked up in facilities as a child (his mother did not want to deal with his illnesses) and jails and prisons as an adult. Matthew went to several different facilities asking for help and medications. He was failed by our systems. Matthew was having a mental health crisis during the time of his death. Matthew was shot over 50 times by Beckley Police Department. Matthew did not deserve this, he deserved to get help! Once Matthew was shot and was deceased, the police remained with their weapons pointed at him and handcuffed him. Matthew deserves justice. He was asking for help. His history and what he did that day does not justify this traumatic event. Please share in Memory of Matthew Scott Jones!
