"Just before leaving Japan I went to the island of Tokushima to meet an artisan who was dying indigo textiles, with her son she showed me around their atelier which was great, it was so cold the water was frozen, and when your dying fabric you need a lot of water, I don’t know how she could work so much with her hands! she showed me some techniques of Shibori, she was a real master of that"

We feel that nature is very present in universe.
Through her songs, and artistic direction of her video clips, photographies...

There is this very strong link between nature and the body. A very personal and intimate reading of nature into her work.

"I grew up surrounded by nature in quite isolated place.
I come from the countryside near Anger, France and my parents lived in an unusual house, a kind of manor, but it was quite rock and roll to live in without central heating,
there was a lake, poplars, weeping trees… It was an extraordinary childhood." - Clementine Blue

'Floating world' is the name of new album. Inspired by her trip to Japan, using field recording, sample and instrument, her voice rests on environmental sounds recorded during her trip.

🏔With this music album comes a riso printed Artzine, with her film photography from her journey, giving a complete experience to this album.

🌸“The title of the album Floating World comes from the translation of the term ukiyo-e (浮世絵) which translates as “picture(s) of the floating world”.”

🎵🌸Clementine Blue is a French born visual artist and music maker based in Margate.

She presented her new album ‘Floating World’, a journey into the landscape of a spiritual Japan, inspired by her own solo trip.

Using field recording, sample and instrument, her voice rests on environmental sounds recorded in Japan.

☁️☁️ Dreamed space.
Inspired by our next guest : Hayao Miyazaki's movies.

✒️Speaking from a French point of view, Miyazaki’s movies had a huge cultural impact and played a big part in introducing Japanese culture into French homes.

🌈Manga was popular in France in the 80s-90s on TV (thanks, Club Dorothée) But manga was too often considered ‘violent’ (by uninformed parents), when Miyazaki offers a soft and dreamlike universe.

🏡In his movies, Miyazaki often uses European architecture as the background, while gently introducing Japanese folklore into it. ‘’Howl's moving castle‘’ is an adaptation of an English novel by Diana Wynne Jones, the surroundings are very much European. Another classic from Miyazaki is ‘’Spirited away’’ which is almost another ‘’Alice in wonderland‘’.

☁️Playing with both worlds, he gave us a dream like version what Japan could be. Something familiar and very far at the same time.

🏠 childhood home - Changsha

From a conversation with Shukei . She grew up in China and used to live in her Grandmother’s apartment with her parents, in Changsha.

Near the apartment, a small park, and that is this park we can see through the window of the room in the picture. The place was full of camphor trees, filling the area with a nice smell.

A window to look back in time. I like how the smell can play a big part in memory. A smell can fill a place, and help you remember places you visited.

Now, Shukei lives in Paris and we portrayed her place last year in an interview. Discover it now, and through it, her story.

Childhood home : 🏠Manchester

From a conversation with Amy . She grew up near Manchester, Uk. This photo is from the first house she lived in. It is a typical factory house bought by her Grandmother for her mom. She moved to a house near by a factory that would smells like biscuit.

I loved to hear her story, and find similarity and difference into Great Britain and France cityscape.

The red bricks is very typical, so are the factory houses architecture. But that’s also something you can find in North of France where part of my family comes from. Same and different.

🇨🇵"En parcourant les interviews déjà réalisées, en parlant un peu autour de moi, je réalise que la maison de notre enfance revient souvent, abordée de différentes façons. Le jardin de nos grands-parents qui nous à inspiré, la nature dans laquelle on a grandi, la famille qui nous entourait ou au contraire le vide qu’elle a laissé.

Les choses invisibles qui nous ont été transmises, et qui perdurent dans notre souvenir de ces lieux qui s’animaient de nos passages à une époque.

Alors parler de ces lieux fait perdurer aussi la mémoire de ces moments, et ouvre aussi une fenêtre différente sur l’histoire de chacune de ces personnes."

🏠Johnny Cash Boyhood Home Arkansas
Exploring Childhood home in short illustrated stories.

"I am inspired by creativity that comes from hardship, In March 1935, when Cash was three years old, his family settled in Dyess, Arkansas, a New Deal colony established to give poor families the opportunity to work land that they may later own.
From the age of five, he worked in cotton fields with his family, singing with them as they worked. The Cash farm in Dyess experienced a flood, which led Cash later to write the song « Five Feet High and Rising ». His family’s economic and personal struggles during the Great Depression gave him a lifelong sympathy for the poor and working class which inspired many of his songs."
