Eighteen years ago after studying at the National School of Drama in New Delhi, Pankaj Tripathi made his way to Mumbai. Unlike many others who end up here, the actor remembers the exact day and date of his arrival in the city of opportunities. “It was October 16, 2004 when I reached Mumbai Central at 7.30 am by the Paschim Express,” he says with a smile, “It was a big decision of my life. I was newly married. I had come from zero. I didn’t know what would happen, when I would get an opportunity or how people would get to know that I am an actor. When you make a move towards uncertainty, then you remember that day well,” he adds.

There’s no denying the fact that make-up has largely been associated with the female demographic for centuries now. It’s simply never been positioned as a category for men, even though there is literature that suggests men from royal families in ancient Egypt and across Europe have been using make-up. Of course, we all know that our favourite male celebrities also wear make-up for films and red-carpet appearances, but what about the men around us? Do the men around you apply any make-up at all?
We spoke to three men who love make-up about what it means to them, how it makes them feel and why it is truly okay to be using it.

As of July 3, 2022, the richest Indian at the sixth position on the BBI is Adani, whose net worth currently stands at $98.8 billion, followed by Mukesh Ambani at the 11th position with a net worth of $86.3 billion. Pallonji Mistry is currently at number 47 with a net worth of $25.8 billion. He also happens to be the most philanthropic man in India currently.
But unlike yesteryear, when philanthropic sector was led by the industrial groups, India Philanthropy Report (IPR) 2022, released earlier this year by Bain & Company and Dasra says that the philanthropic potential of UHNIs is now being given the push by a number of start-ups and young tech entrepreneurs. Add to that, crowdfunding which has huge potential as a channel for retail donations in the future.

Back in the day, we flipped through magazines and looked up to celebrities for make-up inspiration—remember when we tried blue eyeshadow because Britney Spears was rocking it? Content creators are taking over that space now, dictating what the coolest make-up trends will be, and they’re putting out tips and tutorials that’ll give you a heads up into what’s trending almost immediately.
We put together a list of make-up influencers that push the boundaries of what make-up is and make it art; you won’t find any simple nude lipstick or soft, smoky eyes here. Instead, you might be reminded that make-up is indeed a creative outlet—here’s your licence to play with it again.

A darkened bedroom. The only source of light is emanating from a rectangular form in front of your face. The hours are speeding towards an alarm set for 7 am, and you can’t tear yourself away from the next episode, the next meme, the next chapter, the next MasterChef screw-up.
It doesn’t matter what you’re scrolling through or watching—nothing beats the sheer joy of finding these few hours of doing something you think you’re enjoying. You’re indulging in revenge bedtime procrastination—a catchy name for a disorder that is rampant among most of us today. Why do we all still do it? Head to the link in bio to find out.

Take a look at the toiletry kits of older men around you, and you’ll see what we mean. It’s likely that it has always consisted of shaving products, possibly a few hairstyling gels or pomades and a basic moisturiser. If there’s one thing we know, it’s that a good skincare routine takes a little more than that. As influencers grow to become beauty advocates, it’s worth noting how the men talking about skincare on the Internet are attempting to educate their followers, and, more importantly, nudging them in the right direction. Five of India’s male beauty influencers share their know-how with us.

Since March 2020, as we spent more time at home attending Zoom meetings, we traded our jeans and office attire for loungewear and co-ord sets. But the one item of clothing to emerge as a winner during the pandemic has been the billowy kaftan. Owing to its roominess and the functionality of its silhouette, the kaftan has now cemented itself as a staple in almost every woman’s closet. Click the link in the bio for more.

If your skin is dry and dehydrated, it likely is visibly parched, tight and irritated, and probably has fine lines and wrinkles too. You might be layering up on creams and oils in an attempt to brighten and moisturise your skin, but if you’re not hydrating with a serum, all that effort might be for naught.
Humectants—especially when they’re a part of a low-molecular weight serum—are able to pull in moisture from the air and then plump up your skin cells. Sounds like magic? It’s just good engineering, these serums have elegant formulas that essentially serve as a tall drink of water for your skin on a sweltering day. More on link in bio.

The advancement of social media has given rise to a new brand of watchdog accounts that became self-proclaimed truth-tellers, such as Diet Prada, which sounded the alarm on plagiarism. A local spin-off of this, Diet Sabya, with a current following of 288k on Instagram quickly gained popularity for highlighting the “copy-cat culture” prevalent within the Indian fashion industry. Several upcoming and sometimes established designers were called out for ripping off designs from their counterparts in India as well as from international labels, and the audience that subscribed to this lauded the account’s investigative nature and unabashed critique.
Does a journalist’s opinion then still hold water, or is it outdone by the barrage of comments that populate a single Instagram post? Head to the link in bio to read more about does the Indian fashion industry need a gatekeeper?
