We had some great takeaways from this weeks fun topic - Cozy Reads. It may be summer, but sometimes celebrating Christmas in July for yourself is just what we need to be ready when winter does come. What were your takeaways?

24/07/2023

When it comes to winter, one thing is certain, the days are shorter, it's much colder, and that tends to be when our mindset takes a deep dive.

One of our favorite things to do to combat the winter blues is cozy reads!

In this episode, we give you some of our tips on how planning ahead now will set you up for a fun filled cozy read winter.

It's like Christmas in July...for yourself!

Fun Fact: Buying your books in July saves the bank account around the holidays.

Recognize: Recognize your guilty pleasures and read what you like.

Accept: Accept your limitations and seek alternative options.

Support: Support your friends and start a book club.

Challenge: Grab the Book Tracker Freebie at unbrokenandenough.com and begin your list now!

Don't forget to do your homework this week! Reach out to a friend you know is currently a caregiver and offer your support. Start off by saying "I was just thinking about you and wanted to check in, is there anything you need?" Let her answer, and then be sure to follow up on your offering.

Sending a card to your friend who is currently a caregiver is a great way to show up in their mailbox to bring a smile on their face. We recommend shopping our parter Lilian Grace Designs as they have some really outside of the box greetings for moments like this.

Our friends who are in a caregiver role often put the needs of the person they are caring for above themselves. It's hard for them to be present in your life, when they are treading water in theirs.

In this episode, Jamie and I will go over some out of the box ways that you can support your friends in their caregiver roles, and hopefully identify when they may be in crisis and really need your support.

We also want to acknowledge all of our friends currently in the caregiver role, we hear you, we see you, we love you, and we support you always.

Fun Fact: There are many ways to support your friend when they are a caregiver for a loved one.

Recognize: Social queues to determine if your friend is in crisis and may need more support.

Accept: Accept that what you want to do to help may not be what is actually needed.

Support: Your friend often with a simple check-in and “hi, how are you?”

Homework: Reach out to a friend who is currently a caregiver. Start by just telling her you are thinking of her and asking if there is anything you can do to help.

We had some fun from this weeks . What were your top 3?

10/07/2023

One thing we often forget to do is spend time in nature. When it comes to self-care, Jamie and I both agree that nature has some amazing benefits that we often forget to tap into.

We believe that in order to be the best possible friend to someone else, you must first be the best possible friend to yourself, so that includes self-care.

Fun Fact: Spending time in nature can be soothing. If you can disconnect from internet devices and things like that, you get a deeper benefit.

Recognize: When you need to give yourself an outdoor time out. If your day is going extremely stressful, if you feel the stress rising within your body, and you just feel like you're going to scream, like you need to just take a break, go outside, give yourself 15 minutes of uninterrupted time, don't take your phone with you just stand there and breathe, breathe in, breathe out, be a human, breathe in, breathe out. That's all you got to do. Don't do anything else.

Accept: Accept your environment and find nature near you. Parks are great. Greenhouses, where they sell plants can even be kind of therapeutic because you get to touch the leaves. Plants inside your home, it just gives you that connection to the earth even though it's inside your home.

Support: Support your inner peace by scheduling time outdoors regularly.

Challenge: Get in nature this week alone and by yourself distraction free...and hug a tree (cause Jamie said to)

it's time for some about and the exclusion of your friends who are going through the hardship of losing their child. Some may argue that timing is just not lining up and it's awkward already so it is best to just not invite her to your upcoming . Speaking from personal experience, it is even worse being excluded from my friends big event and makes me feel even more alone in my suffering. It also can cause friction and damage to the friendship that may be difficult to repair later. Send the invite, but also be accepting of a decline of invitation. Truth is, attending a baby shower after a miscarriage is extremely difficult, I usually decline to attend, however, I always send a gift to the mom to be along with my well wishes. It's not that I don't want to be there and celebrate with you, it's that some days, I can't, it's painful to play those silly games that are a constant reminder of what I lost. Some days, I'm strong and can sit through them and do enjoy them, but you never know when grief will sneak up on you. However, if you don't invite me or even talk to me about why you aren't, and we are close friends, that will make me question the validity of the friendship. I'm not asking you to walk on eggshells around your grieving friend, I'm asking you to be compassionate and include her even if you already know she will say no.

Parties - they can be fun...or they can be anxiety inducing. Which side of that coin you are on depends on the details surrounding the party.

In this (lengthy) episode, we are going to have some heart to heart talks such as:

🥳 Attending parties we are invited to
🎉 Family Gatherings
🎉 Co-Worker Party
🎉 Bestie Brunch
🎉 Party with Friends

🥳 How to politely decline if you can't attend (and not feel like a total jerk for saying no)

🥳 Why you should always invite your friend going through hardship instead of omitting them off the guest list

🥳 What you should take to the party (and when you should ask the host(ess) for permission)

🥳 What topics we should avoid and overall general guest etiquette

It's easy to have hurt feelings when it comes to party fouls, so we want to help you learn a few tricks we've picked up along the way. These are things we've personally faced and we recognize not everyone falls into these categories, in other words, you do you, boo!

Fun Fact: You can still have a good time at a party even if you are an introvert.

Recognize: Your headspace - can you attend the party and bring positivity even if you’re having a bad day?

Accept: Not all gatherings are large enough to invite everyone, and don’t use it as an excuse to not attend future events hosted by that person.

Support: It is socially acceptable to bring the host/hostess a small gift of gratitude.

We know you are dying to know what our final ratings were for Queen Charlotte, so we've rated them for you here. Each Watch Party 6 episode will be rated on a scale of 1-6 (6 being the highest). It's no surprise Jamie and I rated the same, we both love Bridgerton and enjoyed Queen Charlotte, but it just couldn't compare.

When it comes to keeping the friendship magic alive, recognizing it starts with you (and not with them) is essential. We have to keep our expectations in check, and instead of pointing blame on a drifted friendship, look inward to discover what it is you are (or aren't) bringing to the table of friendship. The truest of friends will always survive a drift, but it takes work!

One of our favorite takeaways from S1E1: Meal Planning Struggles was to pick a common denominator to meal plan - like chicken. Here is an example of how we'd break it down into 3 dishes for the week.

Dare to be yourself now so you don’t have a long list of “I wish I would have…” later.

Dare to be yourself now so you don’t have a long list of “I wish I would have…” later.

Imagine being in your 80's and you catch yourself thinking about your life.

And how you never took that trip to go swimming in the ocean on a beautiful summer day because you didn't like the way you looked in your swimsuit.

Or realising you never laughed until you couldn’t breathe because your teeth weren’t straight enough.

Or how you never embraced the sun on the beach because of the stretch marks on your stomach.

You never allowed yourself to let go and have fun because the pressure to look perfect consumed you.

Just imagine being at the end of your life and realising you’ve hidden yourself away from the fear of being real.

Just think about all the years you wasted hating yourself.

And all this time you were perfect exactly the way you were.

Take my advice and cherish every single day you have left, because tomorrow is never promised.

~ Cody Bret

Hey Everybody, it’s Jamie!

If you asked me several years ago if I would be hosting a podcast with my best friend Shonda I probably would have said you’re crazy…at first, but then I’d know that eventually she’d talk me into it. It’s ok though–we always have the most fun together 🙂

Friendships are an incredible gift and being able to connect with someone on a deep level is magical. I think of times before I knew Shonda and sometimes I have a hard time remembering what it was like when she and I were practically strangers to one another but here we are now almost 20 years later with so many shared adventures and hopefully many more to come.

We always like to close out our episodes with a fun fact, so here’s one about me: one of the coolest things I’ve ever gotten to do in my life was hand-feed and swim with manatees in Mexico. The place I went to does such a great job of capturing the moment on camera too. It’s definitely something I would encourage anyone to do.

I hope you enjoy the podcast and if you have any ideas for us for future episodes, we’d love to hear them!
