Bola Ahmed Tinubu Despite alleged widespread rigging and churning of controversial results from states, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has declared the All Progressives Congress presidential candidate, Bola Tinubu, as the president-elect. Tinubu, a former Lagos State governor, was declared the president-elect after the 70-year-old polled 8,794,726 votes to win the 2023 presidential election. The Labour Party candidate, Mr. Peter Obi has won in six of the eight local government areas declared by the electoral commission, INEC, in Plateau State. The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, Atiku Abubakar, won in the other two. There are 17 LGAs in the state but only the results of eight had been announced at the INEC State Collation Centre as of 9am....

By NLC President, Comrade Joe Ajaero We have had recourse to alert Nigerians earlier yesterday of our observations and reports that reached us from across the nation on the shoddy handling by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) of their early Election Day activities. We talked of the dangers it posed to the entire process and its outcomes if nothing was done timely and wondered why that should be so given the huge resources invested in the Commission towards this Election....

The Inspector General of Police, Mr. Baba Alkali on Saturday paid an inspection visit to the Minister's Gate Polling Unit to assess progress of the exercise. A good number of voters have been frustrated due to the slow style of voting occasioned by a single BVA at the polling unit. Speaking to reporters after conferring with polling officials, the IGP expressed pleasure at the peaceful way voters and INEC officials conducted themselves at the polling unit. The IGP was loudly applauded by the voters who appreciated him for "the good job so far".

Yakubu Despite the late arrival of officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission, voter turnout at polling units in Mazamaza, Mosalashi in the Amuwo Odofin Local Government Area of Lagos State, was high. According to Punch, who visited several polling units, voters were waiting for INEC officials. They also started issuing numbers among themselves while they waited. At the three polling units, 107, 108 and 109 located inside Benster Crescent, Mazamaza, INEC officials showed up around 1:00 p.m....

At exactly 3.40pm on Saturday, voting is still going on at the Minister's Gate Polling Unit 001 where more than half of those that turned up for voting since 7.00am and issued with numbers are yet to cast their ballot. Frustrated hoards of voters were seen taking shelter under trees and shades of all kinds whilst waiting patiently to cast their votes....

Major streets in Kubwa, a popular satellite town in Abuja, were on Saturday turned into football playing fields in spite of the large turnout of voters at various voting centres in the area. Some of the players had already cast their vote, while others were waiting for their turns. Pantami There was mild pandemonium at the Minister's Gate polling Unit when the Federal Minister of Communication and Digital Economy, Dr. Isa Pantami was granted special privilege to go and cast his ballot ahead of other voters who had been on the queue since 7.00am. A lady voter, who would not have any of that, challenged the Honorable Minister for circumventing the queue....

Over 87 million out of the 93 million registered voters will cast their ballots today to decide who takes over from the President Muhammadu Buhari on May 29, 2023. The National Examinations Council (NECO) on Thursday announced the release of the result of the November/December 2022 Senior School Certificate Examination. The Registrar of NECO, Prof Dantani Ibrahim Wushishi, made the announcement in Minna, Niger state. According to the NECO boss, a total of 59,124 candidates sat for the examination, with 31,316 males, representing 52.96 per cent while 27,808, representing 47.03 per cent were female....

The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has finally caved in to pressure and announced a 10-day extension of the deadline for the use of old naira notes across the country. The CBN governor, Godwin Emefiele, who spoke to journalists in Sunday morning, said he had the approval of President Muhammadu Buhari for the extension. The new deadline is now 10 February instead of the former 31 January deadline, he said....
