When God gives us those ‘walk on water’ faith opportunities 🫶With this episode, I’m really hoping to encourage and connect with those in a season of life where we feel like God is ripping up the playbook for how we thought things were going to go. Because friend, how exciting! It’s definitely not always comfortable. I arrived in Hong Kong as a wide-eyed publishing professional and budding lifestyle writer. I left as a Publisher for the world’s most prestigious university press, restaurant reviewer for the city’s largest food website, Christian blogger and podcaster, and more. If I ever felt dissatisfied about my life, I could look to these labels and feel secure. Even if I didn’t feel like I was doing great, self, look at these labels – they are dreams come true! Also my wardrobe. Hong Kong is quite a status conscious place, look around everywhere even on the train/subway and you’ll see designer labels – Chanel and Hermes even – on nearly everyone. My wardrobe definitely upgraded while I was there.
Then God made moves and some of these labels went away. I moved back to Canada – no longer an expat. I became a student – no longer a Publisher. Or restaurant reviewer. Still a Christian content creator though! And a new entrepreneur! Accepted into competitive incubator programs! And… but wait.
Here in lies the thing about labels: they change in life and we shouldn’t idolize them. When we give up some, may we not idolize replacing them with ones that look and sound better so we can feel secure. I think it’s natural to always want to go up, do better, and so on. But what that looks like to God isn’t always what it looks like in this world. And even if it is, it’s so dangerous to put our identity in worldly things above God. When God starts to change things, perhaps we’ll see that some things we used to value so much aren’t really that necessary anyway. Most of my designer bags, clothes and jewelry – that I spent so much time researching about and saving for — are now gathering dust.

A little reminder to give yourself grace when things feel hard. You know how some days we can wake up and feel under a fog? We just need some time before we feel ready to face the world? There are various reasons for this, God can def speak to all our situations, and to us directly. But in case it helps, when I went through this last, I felt God say “I’m empowering you to do all I’m calling you to do.” And that it’s ok to still need to be spoon-fed by him sometimes. We all do. 🫶 When we need God, the best thing to do is to need him! Amen? To rely on him! To tell him we’re needing and relying on him. When we don’t feel strong, may we not rely on ourselves and fake it - let’s not fall into that trap when we can rely on the God of all creation. Jesus paid the price so we can have this privilege! God can turn things around. He can do things in timings and ways humans can barely comprehend (and sometimes we can’t at all haha). He is who he is. May we live today like we know this is true. He is our Abba Father, Jehovah Jireh, Savior of the world. 💫*Among the gods there is none like you, Lord; no deeds can compare with yours. Christian entrepreneur testimony 🎙️ This past week, I had the great privilege of being a guest on the @mysinglestorypodcast. When I was explaining the vision behind pinkandnew.com, Meisha, the host shared a bit about her journey and thanked me for “taking up the mantle” in this area which kind of took me aback for a minute until I processed why I was taken aback. More on this in a second.Still processing, the next day I went to a women’s bible study. One of the things I’ve been praying for is being mentored by women in a different stages of life from me. And the women I’ve met in Taipei are not only on fire for God, mothers, and super cool women, but many are also entrepreneurs. That day we discussed humility and leadership, as it relates to Philippians 2. I brought up that I was chewing on verse 7 which describes how Jesus made himself nothing by taking the very nature of a servant. We’ve probably all heard the term ‘servant leadership’ and know God calls us to be humble. But then how to reconcile this when we feel called to pursue something bigger than ourselves?The women in my Bible study basically encouraged me to be bold about my God-given vision while humbly relying on God – because we have a responsibility to obey God and doubting God doesn’t please him. Which helped me process the ‘taking up the mantle’ conversation. Often with our callings, it’s not something we feel we’ve chosen for ourselves – like we didn’t go to God and say ‘I want to be a leader’ in this area. It’s more we believe it’s where God is leading us, and it’s also an area that he’s given us the most passion for or training for. So I think I was taken aback because it sounded so grand when she said it like that but we are God’s servant and obeying God means obeying his leading. So 1) we all should be taking up whatever mantle God is calling us to do right, and 2) God does want us to rely on him and do things ever greater than Jesus did (as it
Those moments when “reality” hits and the weight of our need feels crushing… When we’ve been doing our best to walk in faith but the challenges feel never ending… When we know we should be grateful for what we have and trust God with the rest but life feels so hard… What can we do? Keep resting in the arms of our Lord and move as he leads. Sometimes we can’t see it or feel it but he is a miracle-working God. Whether it’s been 5 weeks or 5 years, our waiting on the Lord is not in vain. He is with us right now, calling us to look at him.
