“The EP is made up of three hypnotic dancefloor tracks, hence the title Dance Now, that I worked on to claw my way out of a period of burnout and the winter blues. During this period, I realised I was spreading myself too thin, hence the title of the track Something’s Gotta Give.”

Having established herself as a palpable force in the DJ scene, Naarm-based Bertie is launching the long awaited release of her debut EP, ‘Carabiner’ on Melbourne/London label Phenomena Records.

“A carabiner is a coupling link that binds two things together. It’s a tool used by climbers to keep them safe should they fall into suspension, swinging side to side, until they find their grip once more. And most notably, it’s a sapphic symbol. One that took hold in WW2 as women entered the labour force. A multifunctional tool that became a secret signal for le****ns at a time when discreteness was crucial. One that wasn’t just about s*x, but about connection, about finding community,” says Bertie.

“This is what I was thinking about when I wrote this EP. The communities that make us feel understood, the movement of life and the movement of self, both the physical and the mental, and the connections that occur when people and music come together.”

Full EP release February 8 with remix release February 23.

Off the back of a pumping show at the Gasometer, Phenomena are stepping back into the club this time presenting a special International guest Nikki Nair.
Nikki Nair’s technique as a DJ is equally as impressive as his production ability. It’s no exaggeration to say that Nair is an expert in cross-genre blending, braiding acid, electro, breaks and more with dexterous ease. Seasoned by the underground DIY party scene of the southeast, Nair is no stranger to curating an atmosphere poised to move and mesmerize peak-time dancefloors of any size. When it comes to Nair’s DJ sets, fans should check their expectations at the door; Nair has developed a natural intuition for curating his selections based on the pulse of the crowd at any given moment - a trait that truly separates him from his contemporaries.
