Remembering George Floyd and the many others that have lost their lives due to structural racism.

It’s been two years since George Floyd was murdered by a racist policeman within a police force and wider system which was judged as structurally racist.

Yesterday, the student film I made in the weeks after the killing was shown at the ICA as part of Kingston University’s graduation MA filmmaking 2020 screening.

It’s not the film I wanted to make.

At the time people talked about changing the world and breaking down structural racism.

I am wondering if anyone has noticed any changes apart from footballers taking the knee and more black people in adverts; any deeper changes culturally, institutionally or socially?

How did your life change? Maybe you are doing something different as a direct consequence.

Delighted to spend time at today talking about Philanthropy, History and Culture. A wonderful charity to support and lend your expertise to in West London!

Pepper Pot Centre was founded by activist Pansy Jeffrey in 1981. The centre's aim is to provide a culturally-sensitive drop in centre for older African Caribbean residences, who may be vulnerable or at risk of isolation. It's services are directed at supporting as well as empowering older people through providing meals, entertainment, wellbeing and theraputic treatments or classes and IT access and training.
