Attention, attention! The latest episode of our podcast is out and it's all about the real-life origins of some of our favorite Star Wars characters and concepts. That's right, we're talking about the true stories behind Ewoks, Jedi, The Force, and Wookiees!
Who knew that the Ewoks were actually inspired by George Lucas' pet dog, or that the Jedi were based on ancient samurai warriors? And as for The Force, well, let's just say that it might have a little something to do with George's love of transcendental meditation.

In 1996, Mark Rehkopf, entered as part of the Design An Alien contest in Star Wars Galaxy Magazine 7 and WON. The design in question is the Ubese Thorn-Back War Dragons which not only look incredibly fierce, but they were also ridden by Sith warriors wielding three-sided lightsabers.
An interesting thing to not is that at the time, Leland Chee, a Lucasfilm Ltd. Continuity editor stated that "Design an Alien" materials were canon.
According to the creator of this artwork, these dragon riders would soar throughout the Clone Wars and were traded with by a mystery Nomad-Damon.
In PB’s search for cool lightsaber designs, he came across this and together we wanted to showcase this cool design which would probably be otherwise lost. You can check out the full episode of the podcast via link in our bio.
The galaxy is full of all kinds of droids - some good, some not so much. But when it comes to the bounty hunter world, two particular models stand out: IG-11 and IG-88. Which we both thought were the same droid.
While they may share a similar design, there are some unique differences between these two droids. IG-11 was programmed with a strict adherence to the Bounty Hunter's Creed, while IG-88 had a much more independent streak.
The concept artwork is by none other than Ralph McQuarrie, quite a different look to what we ended up with. In the episode, we talk about some unique design differences between the two droids.

George Lucas wanted to represent the people of Vietnam (Ewoks) and Rebel Alliance fighting back against a powerful dictatorship (The US) and be successful. In a time of depression, George Lucas wanted to provide hope to the younger generations of the time.
