ILAGAN & PEREZ: ALL SET FOR WORLD CUP IN GERMANY
Lourence Ilagan and Christian Perez leave for Germany tomorrow, September 6, for their participation to the Cazoo World Cup of Darts at the Sparkassen-Arena in Jena, Germany from September 9 to 12. The two seasoned Pinoy darters will represent the Philippines in the 32-nation tournament across four days in a combination of Doubles and Singles events.
Ilagan is set to make his fifth appearance at the World Cup of Darts stage after topping the nationwide Philippine Qualifier last July. He first teamed up with Christian Perez in 2012, then with Gilbert Ulang in 2015, and with Noel Malicdem in 2019 and 2020. Lou takes with him years of experience competing in international dart events, such as the WDF Asia-Pacific Cup in 2000 and 2006, the Winmau World Masters in 2009, the World Darts Championship in 2009, 2013, 2019, 2020, and 2021, and the World Soft Darts Championship from 2013 to 2015. Lourence Ilagan is likewise set to represent the country at the 2022 World Darts Championship in London this December.
Meanwhile, this will be Perez’ second appearance at the World Cup of Darts since 2012. Similar to his teammate, Perez brings along with him years of experience from international dart tournaments, such as the Shanghai Darts Open in 2009, the World Soft Darts Championship from 2013 to 2015, and the World Darts Championship of 2010, 2012, and 2015.
After finalizing details of their qualification with the Professional Darts Corporation and processing their visa application to Germany, both Ilagan and Perez flew to Tacloban for one week of skills training and team building under NDFP President Bem Noel. The NDFP is hopeful that skill, experience, and team chemistry will lead to a Filipino victory in this year’s World Cup of Darts.
We call on the Philippine Darting Community for their unwavering support, and to pray for the safe travel of Ilagan and Perez specially now with this pandemic.
