KSDRF conducts Jyotishacharya Sammelan on the crisis of delayed marriages in the KP Community

JAMMU, Feb 2: Kashyap Sathal Development & Research Foundation (KSDRF) successfully organized the Jyotishacharya Sammelan at Kashmiri Pandit Sabha, Amphalla, here today..

The conference, attended by a distinguished gathering of scholars, social activists and intellectuals, addressed the pressing issue of late, overaged, and delayed marriages within the Kashmiri Pandit community—an alarming trend leading to demographic changes due to a declining birth rate.

The event commenced with the auspicious Deep Prajvalan, followed by a heartfelt welcome address by Dr Pran Kaul, who emphasized the urgency of addressing this crisis before it reaches an irreversible stage.

He reiterated that the dwindling fertility rate among Kashmiri Pandits is not just a sociological concern but a matter of survival for the community’s future generations.

The conference was graced by Dr. Arvind Karwani, Commissioner, Relief & Rehabilitation, UT of Jammu & Kashmir, as the Chief Guest.

In his address, Dr Karwani highlighted the importance of balancing cultural traditions with contemporary realities to ensure the continuity of the Kashmiri Pandit lineage. Shri Awtar Krishan Jyotshi, the guest of honour guests, shared his deep insights into the astrological and societal factors contributing to delayed marriages... He further urged the central and state governments to take the initiative & formulate a policyto safeguard the community from extinction.

A major highlight of the event was the keynote address by Padma Shri Dr. K.N. Pandita, Patron of KSDRF. In his thought-provoking speech, Dr Pandita provided a historical perspective on the evolution of Kashmiri Pandit marriage traditions, drawing attention to how external socio-political disruptions have influenced demographic trends. He stressed that while preserving tradition is vital, adaptation is equally important to ensure the survival of the community.

Dr. Pandita urged the younger generation to prioritize timely marriages and called for collective efforts to remove unnecessary social and astrological constraints that hinder early wedlock.
One of the most significant outcomes of the Sammelan was the margdarshan of Shri Avtar Krishan Jyotshi & the intellectuals present in the sammelan. They emphasized the urgent need to address the rigid and often misinterpreted astrological factors contributing to delayed marriages.

The key resolutions included Flexibility in Horoscope Matching; Minimizing Dosha-Related Fear; Encouraging Early Marriage: Reducing the Social Stigma of Late Marriage; Role of Community Institutions and Integration of Traditional Wisdom with Modern Reality.

The Sammelan was addressed by Prof B.L.Koul, Mr Ajay Pandita, Mr R K Bhat. Dr Sandeep Mawa during his deliberations laid stress on medical complications arising after a certain age because of physiological & biological changes in a human body.

Youth For Panun Kashmir - Regd" Calls for Immediate Safety Measures at Jagti’s Dangerous U-Turn

JAMMU, Jan 26: In a tragic accident near Jagti yesterday, 14-year-old Manav Bhat lost his life, leaving the entire Kashmiri Pandit community in mourning. His elder brother, who was driving the vehicle, is fortunately out of danger. Youth 4 Panun Kashmir extends heartfelt condolences to the grieving family and prays that they find the strength to endure this irreparable loss.

On behalf of Youth 4 Panun Kashmir, General Secretary Digamber Raina expressed grave concern over the dangerously designed U-turn entry to the Jagti Displaced Settlement, where the accident occurred. He stated, “This U-turn has been a safety hazard for years, and no corrective action has been taken. The community has raised concerns multiple times, but the authorities have turned a blind eye to this issue. Such negligence cannot continue—Jagti deserves basic safety infrastructure.”

Jagti is home to thousands of displaced Kashmiri Pandit families, yet it remains a glaring example of infrastructural apathy. While nearby IITs and IIMs in Jammu have well-planned access points, the Jagti settlement has been subjected to unsafe and inadequate infrastructure.

Senior Panun Kashmir activist Ashwani Bhat highlighted the unfair treatment, stating, “This is not the first time concerns about the Jagti entry have been raised. The displaced Kashmiri Pandit community has already suffered immeasurably, and the lack of safe access to their settlement is a continued reflection of the neglect they face. Why is it that Jagti’s entry remains so dangerous when other institutions nearby have proper facilities?”

Shri Rajesh Kachroo added, “This tragic accident underscores the urgent need for redesigning the Jagti entry. The U-turn is poorly planned and unsafe for both residents and commuters. It is high time that the government prioritizes the safety of the thousands of people who use this route daily. We demand immediate action to prevent further loss of life.”

The Kashmiri Pandit community cannot afford to lose more lives due to preventable accidents. Youth 4 Panun Kashmir calls on the administration to address this issue without delay and ensure the safety and dignity of Jagti residents.

The Buck Doesn’t Stop at Rouble Nagi’s Removal: Enact PK Genocide & Atrocities Prevention Bill 2020:Y4PK

JAMMU, Jan 24: Youth 4 Panun Kashmir welcomed the removal of Rouble Nagi from the Panel of Community Leaders of the National Commission for Minorities (NCM).

"While her removal is a necessary step, it is far from enough. Genocide denial and trivialization of Kashmiri Pandit suffering cannot end with symbolic actions—it must lead to legal and systemic accountability. We strongly urge the government to enact the Panun Kashmir Genocide and Atrocities Prevention Bill 2020 to criminalize genocide denial, recognize the 1990 genocide of Kashmiri Pandits, and bring to justice those responsible for these heinous crimes. The Bill must also ensure legal safeguards to prevent future atrocities against Kashmiri Pandits and other minorities in the valley," said the statement issued by Y4PK.

The statement added that Y4PK reaffirms Margdarshan 91 as the sole framework for the safe, dignified, and sustainable rehabilitation of Kashmiri Pandits.

"The establishment of Panun Kashmir as a Union Territory is non-negotiable. It is the only solution to provide constitutional safeguards and protection against the threats of radicalism and terrorism in the valley. The removal of Rouble Nagi must not distract from the larger issue: justice for Kashmiri Pandits and accountability for genocide deniers. Youth 4 Panun Kashmir demands the enactment of the Panun Kashmir Genocide and Atrocities Prevention Bill 2020, formal recognition of the genocide of Kashmiri Pandits, and the implementation of Margdarshan 91 to create Panun Kashmir as a Union Territory," stated Digamber Raina, General Secretary Y4PK.

He added "The time for symbolic gestures is over. Genocide denial is a crime against humanity, and those complicit in it must face consequences under the law. Justice, accountability, and Panun Kashmir remain our unwavering demands."
