Kaizer Jr: Chiefs will not SACK Zwane, we are fully behind him

Kaizer Chiefs coach Arthur Zwane has received the backing of the club amid calls from fans to have him sacked.

“From all directors and the chairman, we’re fully behind the coach and our job it to provide the right infrastructure as we can,” Motaung Jr told the media on Monday.

“The thing is, it’s a tricky one for him [Zwane] too because, we’re facing Pirates for example and Pirates are perceived to be on this amazing run but they are three points ahead of us we’ve drawn the same amount [number] of games.

“I think they [Pirates] have won one more than us. We’ve scored one more goal, so it’s fine margins and fine margins also in perception.”

Zwane: I'm not worried about getting fired, it happens to the best coaches

Kaizer Chiefs coach Arthur Zwane has calmed talk his job could be at risk and that he might be fired.

“I'm not worried about getting fired. It is part of the game, these things do happen to the best coaches in the world,” said Zwane.

“And if you remember when I was appointed, I said the same thing, that there would be tough times when the results are not coming and obviously people wouldn’t be happy. But that doesn’t mean that we should give up.

“We will keep on doing the right thing and we know that we are on the right track.

“Yes, it’s quite difficult because the results are fluctuating, but the good thing about it is that we know what we want to achieve. We know where we want to see ourselves and it’s a work in progress.”

SuperSport join the race to sign Lakay

SuperSport United are interested in signing Mamelodi Sundowns star Lyle Lakay according to Unplayable.

The 31-year-old left-back, who has been deemed surplus to requirements at Sundowns, was on the books of SuperSport between 2009 and 2012.

During his time with SuperSport, Lakay worked with current Matsatsantsa coach Gavin Hunt who seems to be keen to reunite with Cape Town-born player.

However, Matsatsantsa would have to beat Lakay's hometown club, Cape Town City to the player's signature.

The Citizens and Masandawana have been in talks regarding Lakay since last week with City having received just around R10 million from the Terrence Mashego deal.

Stan Matthews speaks on Ronwen Williams move to Sundowns

SuperSport United CEO Stan Matthews has commented on the possible departure of captain Ronwen Williams to Mamelodi Sundowns.

"It's never just a straight forward situation because there's negotiations and discussions. There's nothing that's been advanced to any level that I can contretize right now, but once I've sat down with Gavin over the weekend and look at different permutations on how we can freshen up the team and what kind of replacements we can (get), then I will have a clearer picture in my own mind how viable the sale of Ronwen will be," Matthews told media after a press conference where they unveiled Hunt as coach on Thursday.

"It's likely that he will leave, but as I say, it's something that I've got to sit down and discuss with Gavin. If we can't get the right replacement... Gavin is very strong on the spine of the team and that starts with the keeper. Ronwen is the national team goalkeeper and he is our most capped player. He is our captain and our poster child. He is our longest serving player, so it's not a normal trading of a player."

Zungu: AmaZulu is not a dumping ground for rejects

AmaZulu FC chairman Sandile Zungu has revealed the reasons the club refused to swap two players from Kaizer Chiefs for want-away star midfielder Siyethemba Sithebe.

For his actions, Sithebe who has already signed a pre-contract with the Soweto giants has been sidelined by the KwaZulu-Natal-based club for the rest of the season.

Without mentioning names, Zungu confirmed that Amakhosi did approach them with a swap deal proposal as they look to land their man before the close of the transfer window, but they were not satisfied with what they have been offered.

"We were offered two players by Kaizer Chiefs," Zungu confirms to Kickoff.com.

"And we made it very clear that look, we not a dumping ground for rejects. Ja we were offered but we looked at the players that they were offering and we said no.

"So we will see with Sithebe, we were officially informed by Kaizer Chiefs that they were talking to him, but they haven't come back to us ever since. They know what our expectations are if they have to get him by end of January. If they can't get him in January we will do what's in our best interest.

"We don't know when they need the player, but if they need him in this January transfer window they know what should happen. The other two players we rejected, we don't need them. I won't mention their names, they may be good for other teams but they are not good enough for AmaZulu.

"We are not a dumping ground for other team's rejects, AmaZulu of old and AmaZulu of today - our brand is very important and we need to protect it,” he said.

Chiefs Return to Training as They Prepare For Sekhukhune



Kaizer Chiefs have returned to training following last week’s emergency decision to temporarily close the Club’s headquarters in Naturena in the wake of a severe outbreak of Covid-19 that affected more than 35 employees as it swept through the camp.

On another positive note, some players who tested positive for the virus shortly before the Swallows match two weeks ago, emerged from isolation. They have rejoined their teammates to work on their special return-to-play protocols with the medical and coaching personnel. This is with the intention of getting them back to full match shape as soon as possible.

With a sizable number of the Amakhosi ranks still in isolation, several Reserve Team players who tested negative for Covid-19 have been called upon to work with the Senior Team members as they prepare for the upcoming match against Sekhukhune United. These young players were released November after their last fixture due to the DStv Diski Challenge being on recess. This was to enable them to focus on their final year examinations. Ten of the players were called up to the under-20 national team for Cosafa Championship – the tournament set to take place in Eswatini was later postponed following a surge in the number of infections.

“Given that the few unaffected senior team players and the juniors stopped training, and went into quarantine as per the NICD and the Department of Health protocols, the medical team and the coaches will monitor their condition very closely to ensure they are healthy enough to play. And, with such a limited pool of players available, we have to also attempt to avoid injuries at all costs,” says Kaizer Chiefs Physician Dr Hashendra Ramjee.

Chiefs Will Not Face Arrows Amid Rising Covid Cases



Following further consultations with the medical department and management regarding the ongoing Covid-19 outbreak that occurred at the Kaizer Chiefs Village last week, Kaizer Chiefs is unable to travel for the scheduled league match against Lamontville Golden Arrows, scheduled for Wednesday, 8 December at Princess Magogo Stadium in Durban.

While Kaizer Chiefs awaits the Premier Soccer League’s decision on the Club’s request to have the remainder of their matches scheduled for December postponed, the playing squad has cautiously resumed return to play protocols today.

In a concerted effort to restore the Village to an environment safe enough to be re-opened as soon as reasonably possible, the Club performed more Covid-19 tests on the available senior and junior teams’ players, members of the technical team and support staff on Monday morning. Sadly, the test results revealed that the outbreak of Covid-19 that initially motivated Kaizer Chiefs to put in a request for postponement of matches had spread further within the camp – with five more people testing positive for the virus, bringing the number of reported cases in the last few days with the Club to 36.

The increase in positive cases does not come as a huge surprise to the Chiefs medical team given the high number of infections already detected within the Club, a situation that led to the immediate suspension of activities at the Village for several days, in accordance with the NICD and Department of Health protocol. “This shows us why it was important for the team to temporarily avoid playing or interacting with others as this could potentially cause the virus to spread beyond the Club – which is an undesirable situation for all involved,” says Kaizer Chiefs Physician, Dr. Hashendra Ramjee. “It is our responsibility to try to contain the outbreak as much as we can and save lives as players and staff have to go back to their families on a daily basis.”

Chiefs appeal to PSL for postponement of matches



As Kaizer Chiefs communicated in the last few days leading up to the game against Swallows FC, the Club has instituted stricter COVID management protocols following several positive Covid cases affecting the team and general personnel. Our protocols are always strict but we have had to be more stringent in the last two weeks given the increasing number of infections in Gauteng and the country.

Players and staff at Kaizer Chiefs Football Club have been closely monitored for symptoms during the COVID-19 pandemic and have been tested regularly. More personnel tested positive this week as we were preparing for Saturday’s game.

As a result of this outbreak that has seen no less 31 people test positive for COVID-19, the Kaizer Chiefs Village is temporarily closed until next week.

Given the situation, the medical team have conducted contact tracing of primary contacts of those who tested positive and have instructed all players, members of the technical team and staff, including those who tested negative, who are primary contacts to quarantine as per COVID protocols.

The Club has written to the Premier Soccer League to request for a postponement of the five upcoming games in December against Cape Town City (4 December), Golden Arrows (8 December), Sekhukhune FC (12 December), Royal AM (19 December) and Maritzburg United (22 December) to avoid risk of infection and further spread of the virus and allow those affected to recover and complete their quarantine period before they can play against other teams.

We view this as a case of force majeure as what the Club is experiencing as a consequence of COVID and the protocols it is obliged to implement, is total beyond the control of the Club.
