📣 2023 Report is Live 📣

We launched the second year of this vital research yesterday with a groundbreaking event at The Trampery in London.

This is a passion project driven by everyone at the TapIn team and we are beyond grateful for the support we have received!

So all we can say now is thank you. 🙏🏽

Last but far from least, say hello to our event lead  Lucas Jeffcoate! 📣

Last year we launched the 2022 This is Black Gen Z research Report with an event - and this year we plan to do the same.

The event will be a key time to publish the findings, explore them in greater depth and take time to celebrate Black Gen Z and champion their voices.

"37% of black Gen Z individuals don't feel comfortable wearing their natural hair to work."

This eye-opening statistic speaks volumes about the challenges faced by our community in the workplace.

Last week, our founder Mils had an incredible experience outside Manchester Piccadilly station, engaging with the public, answering their questions, and raising awareness for our crucial research on black talent. It was a powerful reminder of the urgent need for change in our society.

Last year, our research journey began with a focus on Black Gen Z, shedding light on their unique experiences. This year, we're taking it a step further by exploring intersectionality.

There’s a need for employers to embrace a holistic approach that acknowledges the diverse facets of the Black community. We must move away from confining individuals to narrow boxes. Everyone deserves the freedom to be their authentic selves. Let's break down barriers and create inclusive spaces where all aspects of identity are celebrated.

Diversity, Inclusion and Belonging.

The phrase sits at the heart of what we are trying to achieve with the This is Black Gen Z project. 🙌🏾

However, it is used so often and has become such a corporate buzzword, it often feels as if people don’t truly understand what they mean when using it.

In truth, three different meanings are embedded within it, and they are not interchangeable. There is one of the key places where many employers fall short - they believe focusing on diversity will automatically create inclusion and foster belonging.

Just because a space is diverse, does not mean they are making efforts to foster inclusion and encourage belonging. 🙅🏽‍♀️

If you find yourself with an employer like that, make small efforts to make it known, or perhaps start looking elsewhere to where they are more cognizant of the complexities of D&I.

Diversity, inclusion and belonging are not about fulfilling tick boxes. ☑️

It is not about companies trying to appear as if they are doing the right thing - it is about them actually doing it.

So we’re gonna go through a series of ways to identify authentic DEIB action from companies based on the findings from our report last year.

This week we’re looking at investigating beyond a company’s employer brand. 🧐

Many employers will use tokenism and marketing to make it seem like they are diverse and inclusive. However, sometimes you gotta dig a little deeper to find out if that is actually the case.
