DRC has asked Chad for military support to help fight rebels, sources say

The Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) has requested military support from Chad to help combat the growing insurgency by M23 rebels in eastern DRC.

DRC's Minister of Regional Integration met with Chad's President Mahamat Idriss Deby Itno on behalf of DRC President Felix Tshisekedi to discuss the matter.

A Chadian official confirmed that Chad is considering the request, but no decision has been made yet.

While the discussions have not been formalized, Chad has not ruled out the possibility of providing assistance.

Chad's government and DRC's spokespersons have not provided further details.

Last week, Chad's Foreign Affairs Minister stated that the idea of sending military support was speculative.
