“Remember when” is an indie pop song written and performed by the indie rockers Wallows, Directed by Stephen Tyler for their Debut album “Nothing Happens”. This song was said to be dedicated to the people who don’t remember such things in their life.
The music video was based in real life due to the fact that many people forget and move on in life without remembering his/her memories with someone. The band’s faces were distorted for a reason, face distortion usually happens if you haven’t seen someone for a long time, their features slowly fade away and they seem to look different when they’re in your presence. Dylan, Braeden, and Cole wear mid 90s clothes for the music video, they wear normal clothes with a sense of fashion when out of character. They act just like any other human being. They may look sad in their other music videos, This is because their lyrics are mostly about life and regrets, they tend to look sad so that listeners will feel the song as well. People nowadays no longer wear mid 90s clothes because fashion changes with time, however, Some people prefer to wear old clothes because they find it aesthetically pleasing and they have a different taste in fashion. The band themselves, and the people will do anything just to make someone remember the good things they’ve done, it hurts to think that someone that changed your life, forgets you and leaves. Portraying someone that is helping someone to remember the things they’ve done gives Wallows the benefit of being caring friends, friends cherish memorable moments and will join you through your ups and downs.
The editing made me feel like I’m the one who doesn’t remember, especially the face distortion concept, it made me feel sad even though I remember everything I do and everyone I meet. I can tell that they really put their effort into this video just to make their listeners experience the feeling of being forgotten, and the result was wonderful. The setting was a hedge maze, in my understanding, this is supposed to be a place where people tend to put their memories in, and the exit are the things you have to remember, we all know that a maze is confusing and hard, this is probably the reason why they chose a hedge maze, because people are having a hard time remembering things because memories without the people who are helping you are piling up, to the point that you are being forgotten.
