After months of careful planning, tonight we close the curtain on Matilda the Musical at Huntingtower School.

It’s been an absolute honour to manage the creative technology department and lead a team of highly skilled staff and students.

Whilst I wear many hats at Huntingtower, training and equipping students is by far the highlight.

The show included
- 120 audio channels
- 566 lighting cues
-near on 200 fixtures
- 22 radio mics
- live orchestra
- flying swings
- digital projections

HUNTINGTOWER PERFORMING ARTS CENTRE.

We have a wonderful opportunity for a suitably qualified Theatre and AV Technician to assist in supervising and performing technical activities for the Huntingtower Performing Arts Centre (HPAC) and other venues that may be used for external hires and school events.

This is an ongoing casual position, reporting to the Theatre Manager and will primarily support theatre users for weekend and after-hours events. Your duties will include but are not limited to the following.

· Supervising aspects of and providing support for the technical operations in the theatre and/or performance/events as required.
· Support events through knowledge and safe operation of audio, visual and lighting systems to enhance performances.
· Knowledge of theatre production and stage assistance.
· A genuine interest in assisting with the aims, objectives, staff, students and clients of the School.

With Matilda the musical is only 9 weeks away our GrandMA console and pre-vis software has been working hard!!

It’s such incredible technology for pre programming enabling us to half the budget and hire time of fixtures.

The Soundcraft Vi did an outstanding job when coupled with the D&B foh system. Average of 96db and even coverage across the entire site. No doubt the Neighborhood heard us too.

Blast from the past!

Many moons ago I was working with a large church in Melbourne who at the time was producing major Christmas and Easter productions.

These shows helped shape my understanding and framework for building shows to this day

As you’ve no doubt guessed the theme of the show was Love is Christmas.

The show consistent of 6 blocks with 3-4 songs in each. The entire running sheet of the show is planned to the second, from the time it takes to walk 25 kids from holding zones to landing areas, the time it takes for the host to deliver the scripted content, time for set peices to be moved and songs that are timed to the second.

Every moment on the stage is planned and blocked out months in advanced for cameras and lighting is all pre programmed in a 3D space. The script had close to 18 revisions with several different versions produced.

Music is scored by a professional musician

We have to take people on a journey , it starts with a song introduction to set the mood, then several “all in” songs in which people are encouraged to join in, when then move into some special moments to bring the focus in.

Then, after greeting time it’s time to bring the mood back up, and then it’s time for our kids segment. Following that we launch into the care message, video and main message. It is now when we are ready to use the song and launch into the finale.

The show is a journey, it goes from big to intimate

What a show this was!

Over 200 faithful team members involved! This show took a little over 11 months to craft and produce!

This was my last major event for my previous employer! Talk about going out with a bang

Two weeks ago I sat down to learn V-Mix and from the get go I have been totally blown away with how powerful this software is!

To date I've run two complex shows using V-Mix pushing to internal and external records, foldback monitors, PiPs, super sources and two simultaneous streams at once.

I love that I can be building PiP's and lower-thirds in the background whilst the cutting is still happening.
This is a serious game changer for our industry and living streaming.

ONLY negative feedback is that its only available for Windows, perhaps a Mac version might come in due time!

It’s been a long time since I’ve sat in a control and this is one that I designed, installed and saw operation control for close to 5 years.

The video system was designed for maximum flexibility to produce the many large scale events. All in all the system allowed for 72 inputs and 72 outputs with fibre links with additional 40/40 i/o.

The system had a dedicated link to the other campus and could record down two streams. Master clock was also driven from this space along with remote control of the lighting console. There were close to 15 macs running in master control alone.

All with redundancy across many levels of the system and of course all on UPS

Wow, just wow!
This was a camp to remember.

This entire rig went up in only 5 hours thanks to the 25 strong production crew.

The rig itself comprised of close to 50 moving lights, 18 channels of IEMs, 20 channels of radio, offline editors, remote video link from Wantirna south to Phillip island for 4 live links to the services, grandma 2, Midas pro 6 & 2 oh and 700 kids, black magic video switching, wireless comms, two ways and running from Gen power.

His Name was Aaron.

Often as a video editor you are somewhat disconnected from the content that you are producing and at times, that can be a good thing!

This particular video was produced 12 months after the EPIC Youth community lost a young man to su***de. For me personally this was such a challenging season, the grief and sense of loss was massive.

This video was shot by a friend of mine and I did the final edit.

The edit took close to 6-7 weeks to complete as it was SO hard to sit in that space for prolonged periods of time.

I remember having to sit with Aaron's Mum when the final package was being signed off on. It as both emotionally draining and a privilege to tell her story.

This video has aired on many occasions and whilst some people say its too comforting, I say thats exactly what it's supposed to do. Mental health is too real within our community.

THE PEACE PROJECT

Rewind 3 years ago… I’m sitting at the cafe having a nice coffee after what has been yet another very frustrating day working for the church.

Jet (youth group and team member) walks up to me and says “I’ve got an idea and you are the person to talk too”

The idea was to produce a video clip aimed at bringing into the spotlight……

The video was quickly approved and with in 2 weeks we started production.

Vision can go along way and when you are presented with such a solid and amazing idea with SO much heart behind it you are able to attract some of the best production crew in the industry to help out, one of them being the incredibly talented🤔 Jordan Kueh, this guy has a heart of gold. He supplied most of the camera and lighting equipment.
