Inflation: Head of Turkey’s central bank moves in with her parents over her inability to afford a home in Istanbul

Hike in the cost of living, particularly the cost of housing in Istanbul, Turkey, has forced Hafize Gaye Erkan, the new head of the nation’s central bank, to move back in with her parents.

The 44-year-old, who took up her post in June after two decades in the United States, told the Hurriyet newspaper she has been priced out of Istanbul’s property market by rampant inflation.

“We haven’t found a home in Istanbul. It’s t£rribly expensive. We’ve moved in with my parents,” she said.

Erkan previously worked at firms including Goldman Sachs and First Republic Bank — and is now getting a crash course in the soaring prices that have seen many young people struggling to find lodgings.

“Is it possible that Istanbul has gotten more expensive than Manhattan?” she said.

Year-on-year inflation stood at 61 percent in November as President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has allowed the lira currency to weaken while promising that a new team of economists with Wall Street experience would tackle years of economic crisis.

To quell growing anger, officials also capped rent increases at 25 percent — though experts say that has only amplified the housing tensions, as owners try to push out occupants, sometimes fr@udulently, in order to set new and higher rents.

The central bank last month pushed up benchmark lending rates to 40 percent in a bid to get inflation under control.

“We’re nearing the end of our monetary tightening measures,” Erkan told the paper.

One Emem Effiong and her physically challenged lover, Innocent Ntia, have married in Uyo Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State.

The bride who goes by the name Uyai Innocent on Facebook shared pictures of the wedding late Wednesday with the caption,

According to the invite posted on her page, the wedding was held on Saturday, December 9, at Christ The King Cathedral in Uyo.

Portable lands in hospital, begs fans to pray for him

Controversial Nigerian singer Habeeb Okikiola, famously known as Portable by music fans has been admitted to the hospital after falling sick few days ago.

This is coming shortly after his return from his United Kingdom tour.

The Zaazu crooner in a now-trending post on his Instagram story on Wednesday, begged Nigerians to put him in prayers.

Sharing a post of himself being attended to on a hospital bed, he said: “I need your prayers. Health is wealth. This life no go tire me. Zazuu, I will not die young.”

Man Allegedly Takes Own Life After Losing N2.5m To Betting

A Facebook user identified as Onoh Chukwuma on Tuesday reportedly took his own life by ingesting an insecticide allegedly for losing N2.5m to betting.

Onoh had on his Facebook wall posted a message saying that it was his last day on earth and that he was going to meet his maker.
Unknown to those reading the post, he had already consumed the insecticide before making the announcement.

In his post, he thanked some individuals, saying, "Today is my last day on earth! I'm going to meet my maker. Thank you Chima Anyaso, Ikukuoma Abia, Kelvin Jombo Onumah, Ekwueme Ohafia, and my friends. My spirit is with you all."

Upon learning of his distress, friends rushed Onoh to Madonna Hospital, Umuahia.

However, despite the efforts of doctors to resuscitate him, he did not survive.

It was reported that Onoh had allegedly lost N2.5m to betting and could not bear the shame and pressure from those he borrowed money from.

A friend, sharing the news of his demise, expressed heartbreak, recounting the futile attempts by medical professionals to revive him.

Another Facebook user questioned the deceased's decision, mentioning that Onoh had N1m and borrowed N1.5m to play a bet that failed, leading to his tragic end due to shame from debtors.

A Facebook user, Ibeako Esther Chisom, wrote, “Onoh Chukwuma Richard, I am heartbroken. I watched the doctors and nurses giving you pressure to see if you can come back but all proved abortive and your pause dropped as the doctor confirmed you dead right in front of me and other of your friends.

“Onoh Chukwuma Richard, you really cut down the plans God has for you by taking your life by yourself. Sleep on. I am heartbroken."
Another user, Obika James Abuchi, wrote, “U had 1m and borrowed 1.5m to play bet, it failed, cuz of the shame from debtors you took your life? Onoh who taught you this? ”

Friends have since taken to his page to send condolences.

Actor Sylvester Madu reportedly arrested in Cameroon over sh%%ting that claimed four

Nollywood actor, Sylvester Madu, has been reportedly detained by police operatives in Bamenda, Cameroon.

The actor was arrested alongside four others over the fatal sh%%ting of four people at a beer parlour on Saturday, November 23, 2023.

It was gathered that some unidentified g¥nmen stormed the lounge where Madu was hanging out with a few others around 10 pm on Saturday.

The att@ck claimed the lives of four people and left over 10 with serious inj¥ries.

According to multiple reports, the actor who was rescued by military personnel, was however detained after he insisted that the four civilians who were also rescued be released.

“He is currently in detention and has been sent to court. He refused to leave the four civilians that were also rescued behind. He came to Cameroon to shoot a movie,” a source said.

Davido's Aide, Isreal DMW, Announces Marriage Crash

Davido's Logistics Manager, Isreal Afeare, popularly known as Isreal DMW, shared news of the end of his marriage to his wife, Sheila, in an Instagram post on Saturday.

In his detailed account, Isreal DMW revealed that Sheila left their home on August 8, 2023, despite his substantial support since their marriage.

Israel also detailed acts of generosity, such as providing financial support, upgrading her phone, and indulging in shopping sprees for her.

Despite these efforts, he described a shift in Sheila's behaviour after their wedding, where she sought to impose standards on him, believing she had achieved status as a prominent figure on Instagram.

Additionally, Isreal DMW pointed out that marrying someone from a Christian background and being a virgin did not ensure peace in his case.

He highlighted that his wife accused him of being a slave to his boss, Davido.

He said, "Marrying a lady because you met her during evangelism as a virgin, a pastor's daughter, a member of the same Winners Chapel church, might not guarantee anything peace at all. Don't be too eager or quick to trust people. People can change at any time.

"People can be very ungrateful and deceptive. I met Sheila on February 19, 2022. We became friends, which later became intimate.

"She told me she would only lose her virginity to the man that would marry her since her Ugep, Cross River, mother, who's now 41, had earlier married two different men, with two kids, before marrying her father and that she was overdue at 21 for marriage.

"We fully agreed with her terms and conditions. I immediately upgraded her unkept situation by giving her 300k and replacing her tattered phone of less than 60k with a new iPhone 12 Pro Max of 860k in less than two weeks.
