Take a look at this post where a Mercedes from 137 years ago is compared to a modern one. It's incredible to witness the evolution over the years!

In another image, you'll see our palm wine tapping system, crafted by our ancestors over 2000 years ago. Surprisingly, little has changed in this technology since then. It serves as a stark reminder that our critical thinking hasn't progressed much, unlike in other regions where such innovations fuel thriving industries. It's disappointing, but crucial to acknowledge our society's lack of progress and awareness.

No one is exempt from this criticism, including myself. However, much of it falls on our government, universities and engineers. Graduates in electrical or mechanical engineering often find themselves having to learn what they studied in university from uneducated person with mechanic workshops.

And let's stop from blaming religion for our backwardness; after all, religious beliefs exist worldwide.

The world is holding its breath as Israel prepares for a massive ground invasion in Rafah, the last refuge in Gaza where over a million civilians have gathered. Thousands more innocent children could die, caught in the crossfire with no escape. Right now, Israel’s Minister of Defense is in DC to request more weapons ahead of the attack on Rafah.

After boxing 1.4 million Palestinians into Rafah, Netanyahu has approved plans to invade the city. This invasion could be the worst thing Israel does since the start of their brutal attack on Gaza. We cannot let it happen. Israel’s military relies primarily on US support. Biden could stop the invasion by ending arms transfers to Israel. Demand he acts now, before it’s too late:

No to FGM! Don’t cut our clitorist! Can someone tell me why the west who push against FGM due to health issues are the same people legalizing Abortion & LGBTQ even though there are numerous evidence these acts are both anti religion, immoral, unhealthy and harmful.

If their fight against FGM is based on health why then put the lives of those who do Abortion and practice LGBTQ at risk?
I’m confused. Is the fight against FGM genuine?
Please what are your thoughts?

DISABLED” GAMBIANS BECOME TAILORS: GRADUATING WITH PRIDE!

Another great day for me as I watched 25 “disabled” Gambian men and (majority) women walked, or were led, to the podium to collect their tailoring certificates on Saturday, February 24. They have become qualified tailors after 9 months’ intensive training through our training contractor, SND Designs, and were each given a brand-new sewing machine. The Minister of Trade, Industry, Regional Integration and Employment, Mr. Baboucarr Joof, graced the occasion and expressed his full support for the graduates and, voluntarily, his intent to refund the costs of their machines. We, at Heeno International, a Gambian funded humanitarian NGO, is immensely grateful to our partners – BADEA - Arab Bank for Economic Development in Africa Gambia Federation Of The Disabled. (GDF). Thanks, also to the Ministry of Trade, Industry, Regional Integration and Employment and the Ministry Of Finance and Economic Affairs Gambia - MOFEA
This is another milestone of the Gambia Special Needs Entrepreneurial Fund! AlhamdoulilLah!

Sundiata Keita was born in 1217 to King Naré Maghann Konaté who was a ruler of the Mandinka people and his wife Sogolon Condé. 🇲🇱

From birth, Sundiata was a cripple and suffers hunchback which made him a subject of ridicule. For this reason, he was always in the Palace and very close with his mother.

When his father's Kingdom and Palace was conquered by King Soumaoro Kanté of Sosso, many people were killed but he was spared because of his physical conditions. However, Sundiata was determined to revenge this invation and eventually offer justice to his people who has been treated with Injustice by the Sosso invation.

He eventually succeeded; Sundiata purposively travelled to the plain of Siby (var: Sibi) where he formed a brotherhood in order to liberate his country and people from the powerful Sosso king.

Eventually, at The Battle of Kirina, Sundiata and his allies defeated the Sosso king, and he formed and became the first Emperor of the Mali Empire which became more powerful and prominent than the Kingdom of his father.

Although, Sundiata Keita was born a cripple and with hunchback, he became one of the greatest Kings and warriors the African Continent has ever seen.

Like Sundiata, you and I should not allow anything to be an 0bstacle on our way to take back Africa and rebuild our l0st glory to honor the memories of our ancestors and give them juśtice.

African history is beautiful, do not dìè without knowing yourself or passing on this beauty to the next generations.

Ancient African Civilization
____
Many old West African families have private library collections dated back to the 8th Century A.D. There are 11,000 books in private collections in Niger Republic. Meanwhile in Timbuktu, Mali, there are about 700,000 surviving books.

Also in the Mauritanian cities of Chinguetti and Oudane have a total of 3,450 hand written mediaeval books and 6,000 books surviving in the other city of Walata.

Most scholars of Timbuktu knew a lot more than their counterparts in Europe. In the 15th century in Timbuktu the mathematicians knew about the rotation of the planets, knew about the details of the eclipse.

African Scholars knew things which we had to wait for almost 150-200 years to know in Europe before Galileo and Copernicus came up with these same calculations and were given a very hard time for it.

AFRICA NOW ON THE CENTER STAGE:
Russia Military delegates arrived in Burkina Faso yesterday.

Deputy Minister of Defense of the Russian Federation Yunus-bek Yevkurov visited Burkina Faso and met with the head of the transitional period Ibrahim Traore

During the visit, the Russian delegate reaffirmed the support of his country in transition and the people of Burkina Faso in all areas of development. He explained that this is primarily about military cooperation, including the training of Burkini cadets and officers of all ranks, including the training of pilots in Russia.

This is also coming just few days after the United Kingdom’s Minister of State for the Armed Forces, James Heappey MP, has met with top defence leaders and military chiefs in Nigeria to deepen defence cooperation among the ECOWAS countries and discuss the situation in Niger.

The handwriting is now becoming clearer on the wall...
But we'll watch and follow closely.

Mali 🇲🇱: UN sanctions against Mali to end after Russia blocks its renewal

UN sanctions in Mali will end on Thursday after Russia vetoed a regime renewal that targeted anyone violating or obstructing a 2015 peace deal, obstructing aid delivery and triggering rights abuses or the recruitment of child soldiers.

Thirteen Security Council members voted in favor of a resolution, drafted by France and the United Arab Emirates, to extend UN sanctions and independent monitoring for another year. Russia vetoed it, while China abstained from the vote. Russia then proposed to extend the UN sanctions against Mali for a final year, but to immediately end the independent observation. It was the only country to vote yes, while Japan voted no and the remaining 13 members abstained.

Media platforms should understand that political programs should be discuss by erudites conversant with the laws and constitution as a bedrock at all times. You cannot make comedians as flagships to high voltage political commentaries. They will talk in every way they desire. It is the duty of online TV platforms to discuss before hand issues with the guest to avoid going against fundamental principles of democracy and freedom of expression. Media freedom doesn’t mean say whatever. Unconstitutional change of government does not help anyone not even opposition parties, Guinea is a salient example. When the coup happened, the opposition were jubilant and running around and happy. Coups are not an avenue to make any political party come to power. In fact, it kills parties.
Media regulation in the Gambia is very lax and it seems people think they talk about whatever they want on air without regards to media laws.
Online TV platforms owe it to their guest to advice them before hand. This is what happens here in Europe. Guest and panellist are given some time to digest the topic at hand. If any guest goes out of line, a disclaimer will be made right away.

High Court Renders Landmark Judgment on Torture / Inhumane and Degrading Treatment

On Thursday 20th July 2023 the High Court of the Gambia presided over by Justice Sheriff Tabally delivered judgement in the case of Assan Jagne(Applicant) v. Inspector General of Police & the Attorney General(Respondents).

The Applicant Assan Jagne had filed an originating summons through his Lawyer Malick H. B. Jallow against the Inspector General of Police and the Attorney General seeking redress for excruciating injuries he sustained as a result of beatings meted out to him by police officers from Farato Police Station and for his subsequent arrest and detention by the said officers.

In delivering its judgment the court granted all the reliefs sought by Counsel Malick H. B. Jallow on behalf of the applicant and held that the applicant’s fundamental rights and freedoms have been violated by the respondents. In particular, the court held that the applicant’s rights not to be subjected to torture, inhuman or degrading treatment has been violated as a result of the beatings by the police officers and injuries sustained. The court also declared the applicant’s arrest and detention by the police unlawful and ordered the Inspector General of Police to issue a public and unreserved apology to the applicant. Finally, the court ordered the Inspector General of Police to pay compensation of D350, 000.00 to the applicant.

This decision is landmark in many respects and marks a fundamental step in the willingness and ability of the courts to enforce fundamental rights and freedoms. It is hoped that the impact of the decision will go beyond the four corners of the courtroom and transcend into a much needed catalyst to our Security Sector Reform agenda to ensure that the police and other law enforcement agents stay within the remit of fundamental rights and freedoms in discharging their important mandate of investigating crime and its root causes.

The Law Offices of Malick H.B Jallow Esq. is very pleased to have successfully litigated this matter, through its Principal Malick H.B Jallow Esq., on behalf of the Applicant Assan Jagne.

URKRAINEAN PRESIDENT VOLODYMYR ZELENSKY WAS LEFT DISSAPPOINTED BY NATO LEADERS AT THEIR RECENT SUMMIT AFTER REJECTION OF HIS APPLICATION FOR URKRAINE TO BE A NATO MEMBERSHIP

Could it be NATO leaders have adhered to the warning of president putin ahead of NATO Summit that if Urkraine is given NATO membership, he will declare World War III.

A viral photo of Urkrainean president Zelensky at NATO Summit at Vilnius, Lithuania has surfaced online where Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky is spotted standing alone while other delegates are busy networking and greeting each other.

Well it was president Joe Biden himself who told Zelensky that his country cannot be admitted as a NATO member now .

The picture shot at the family photograph ahead of the social dinner yesterday alleges that the President Zelensky was left isolated amidst decisions over Ukraine joining NATO.

Was Zelensky left alone with other leaders refusing to indulge in a conversation with him?

When the two women exchanged a courteous handshake, the frame at that moment saw Zelensky standing alone, making people think that not many welcomed his presence there.

Members of the US delegation in Brussels are angry with Volodymyr Zelensky because he has described NATO as an "unstable" Alliance."

In many other pictures from the gathering, along with the viral photo, Zelensky is spotted with his wife Olena instead of other NATO leaders.

Ministry of Tourism and Culture The Gambia AND THE GAMBIA TOURISM BOARD FAIL TO UPHOLD THEIR RESPONSIBILITY!

Open Gambia (OG) received contact from an international tourism expert who visited the West Africa region last week. The expert shared disturbing information about the mismanagement of The Gambia's tourism industry and the deteriorating condition of its tourist attractions.

According to the expert, a friend from Senegal sought his recommendations for well-maintained tourist attractions in The Gambia that are on par with or could rival those in neighbouring Senegal, like Goree Island. Unfortunately, no such attractions were found. Our expert reluctantly informed his friend that even the famous Makasutu forest resort was in poor condition when he recently accompanied a group of European tourists. The expert provided photographic evidence revealing the dilapidated state of the resort, which was once a renowned tourist attraction in The Gambia.

This raises questions about why The Gambia's tourism infrastructure falls below global standards and what has caused this deterioration.

The disappointment at Makasutu was compounded by an unsuccessful attempt to visit Kunta Kinteh Island in Juffureh due to mechanical failures with the ferries operating between Banjul and Niumi. After boarding the ferry, it became apparent that it was going nowhere - forcing the expert and his entourage to disembark.

Gambians demand that the Ministry of Tourism and the Gambia Tourism Board explain their failure to ensure that tourist attractions meet international standards and can compete with other destinations.

We urge all stakeholders, including tourists, to share their experiences and thoughts to hold the tourism authorities accountable and improve the image of The Gambia as an international tourism destination.

Stay tuned for OG's upcoming publication, which will expose the prevalent culture of per diem hunting at the Gambia Tourism Board.

The shared photograph depicts the deteriorated conditions of Makasutu Forest in March 2023. Makasutu was once a source of pride and joy for visitors and prominently featured in The Gambia's tourism brochures. Another screenshot shows the Cape Point Craft Market in Bakau.

Abdu Cham

According to the Department of State, Abdu Cham, a counsellor at the Gambian Embassy in Washington, DC, is found wanting by the Montgomery County Police Department (MCPD) of striking his daughter, with a mop.

“The mop left markings on the daughter’s arms. The MCPD further reported that based on the victims’ injuries and evidence at the scene, had it not been for his diplomatic immunity, Mr Cham would have been arrested under state law and charged with second degree child abuse,” the State Department said.

Mr Cham’s case was referred to Child Protective Services (CPS) who provides recommendations and access to resources to assist families.

“The Department expects that the embassy help ensure the safety and wellbeing of its members and their dependents, including all the children who are residing in a principal’s household. The Department reminds the embassy that members of a foreign mission are expected to respect the laws of the United States. The Department takes this matter very seriously and considers such alleged behavior unacceptable for a member of a foreign mission,” the statement added.

The Department said it will continue to monitor the situation and will be in contact with the embassy as new information becomes available.

Pa Sako Darboe

On the case of Pa Sako Darboe, a first secretary, the Department of State said he is found wanting of taking into custody transfer documents for a thirteen-year-old girl, and a fourteen-year-old boy.

“A subsequent investigation by the Diplomatic Security Service (DSS) determined that the custody transfer documents were fraudulent, and that Mr Darboe used these fraudulent documents to enroll the two children in school in Montgomery County, Maryland,” it added.

Alhagie Babou Joof

The DSS also found that, separately, Mr Alhagie Babou Joof, a finance attaché, had participated in visa fraud.

Mustapha Sosseh

“Finally, DSS found that Mustapha Sosseh, the Deputy Chief of Mission at the embassy, had been associated with visa applications with fraudulent indicators and that the illicit schemes described above took place under his leadership.

Accordingly, pursuant to Article 9 of the Vienna Convention on

Diplomatic Relations, the above-named individuals and their dependents are required to depart the United States no later than July 17, 2023, at which point they will cease to enjoy any privileges and immunities,” the statement said.

The DSS also requested the Gambian Embassy to return all Department-issued documents for the above-named individuals, including their driver’s licenses, tax exemption cards, and identification cards, to the Department’s Office of Foreign Missions immediately.

“Further, the Department informs the embassy that the above-named individuals are unacceptable for future accreditation as members of The Gambia’s Mission to the United States,” it added.

None of the above offenses are acts of kindness but rather abuse of diplomatic privilege accorded to diplomats.

They should be retired from the civil service henceforth.

Should former President Jammeh stop talking to fake people. It appears he's still being played by some disgruntled folks whose only intention is to fuel hatred among a once united party for their selfish interested.

Could it also be that it is Gambians appetite of bringing each other down like during his reign, leading to the arrest, torture, sackings and even disappearances of inocent people.

Jammeh's own region is very much divided. It is believed that many people from Foni who became close to Jammeh were infact the very ones lying against their own brothers and sisters leading to the sacking, arrest, torture and disappearance of many son and daughters of Foni, Jammeh's born region.

Even after Jammeh's exile, son's and daughters of Foni are still engaged in hatred, bigotry and insults.
Omar Sanneh alias Baitullah have a fans club. He like Jammeh is on exile. Baitullah was arrested by Jammeh for impersonating and receiving money by false pretense. He's a known clown and was disgraculy sacked from the army.

Fast forward, Baitullah became the biggest defender of Jammeh. He was among the organizers of the Kanilai protest which led to the gruesome killing of innocent Haruna Jatta. Baitullah was arrested, remanded in Mile2 and charged. He jumped bail and fleed to the bushes in Cassamance.
Baitullah insulted almost every elder, imam and prominent person in Foni and the Gambia by extension. His fans cheered him and fully supported his actions. His fans base grew and his platform was now used by enemies to lie and fabricate stories against innocent people with the intention of harming their reputation.

Last month, Baitullah was arrested by Senegalese forces and will likely face charges soon.

Just last week, audios were making rounds of a certain soldier implicating APRC and former Jammeh government big wigs in the burning of APRC political bureau in 2016. Jammeh was furious and wanted to know more from the soldier. He was heard saying his former National Mobilizer and Mayor of the country's biggest region campaign against him.
If Jammeh was still in power, these people will mostly definitely be a target.

Is this the kind of attitude we've been witnessing during his reign? Well reading the above will give you answers. People lie against people to a dellusioned Jammeh and get them sacked, arrested, tortured or disappear.
