[Valorant Sentinels Team X Kuroko no Basuke]
I saw a post yesterday comparing the Valorant Esports team Sentinels to Kuroko no Basuke's Generation of Miracles. I found it very interesting how on point it is, and how I didn't see it before. Haha. They way Teiko High's basketball team is described in the manga and anime is eerily similar to how the Sentinels are dominating the Valorant Esports scene. They are both head and shoulders above the competition and pubstomping every opponent. Not only that, the members' personalities and quirks are on point. Here is how I compare the players:
Shahzam - obviously Akashi. He is the brains of the team and he keeps everyone's ego in check. As with Akashi, he can carry the game by himself, if necessary. As talented as everybody is in the team, they all respect Shahzam, and it shows in the way they play. Their level of coordination is insane, and it all starts with this man.
Dapr - Midorima. Dapr knows all the best Cypher and Killjoy nerd setups and lineups just like how Midorima lines up his impossible 3-pt shots. They are both known for their smug attitudes that irks opponents, and they are both the 2nd brains on their respective teams.
Sick - Kise. Sick has the most diverse agent pool in the Sentinels. He can flex into whatever agent his team needs on a certain map or lineup, just as how Kise can copy and adapt any playstyle and do everything on the basketball court. The Sentinels are only as good as they are because Sick can play any role that would let the team win.
Zombs - Murasakibara. Both of them can score, but they don't have to because they have other monsters on their team who can do so. They both shine as the defensive anchors on their teams and they both do the dirty work. Zombs, although he uses Controllers and not the defensive specialists, Sentinels, is the team's best defender. He just has the knack for locking down sites. They are both laid back and often forgotten, but no one can deny their impact on their teams.
Tenz - Kuroko. As the team's ace and star player, it seemed more fitting that he would be compared to Aomine. But I think he is more like the show's protagonist, Kuroko. Although they are very different in terms of playstyle (Kuroko is a passing savant, while Tenz is a monster fragger), their life stories are very similar. Tenz is a real life anime protagonist. He came from CS:GO labelled as a choker, but when he moved to Valorant, he became the game's best player. And like Kuroko, he's always the one who makes the jaw-dropping impossible straight-from-anime game-winning plays that makes them so dominant. They're also their respective team's 6th man, so there's that. (edit: Now that I've though about it more, Tenz' raw talent and fragging ability can also be compared to the anime's other protagonist, Kagami. So I guess Tenz is a hybrid of Kuroko and Kagami, which further solidifies his anime protagonist status. Haha.)
Sinatraa - Aomine. Let us not forget the guy Tenz had to replace. The original ace of the Sentinels. The Sentinels had to acquire Tenz last minute before Masters 1 because Sinatraa is suspended until September while under investigation due to sexual assualt allegations. Note that I do not condone sexual assualt in any way, shape or form. It is only proper that he is suspended from the Esports scene until the investigations are over, and he deserves any punishment or penalty that would be imposed on him if he is found guilty. But strictly as a Valorant player, it is objectively undeniable that Sinatraa is one of the best. He does not have the godlike aim of other Valorant aces like Tenz, Scream or Asuna. But what he has is insane movement and spray control. In my opinion, he is the pro player that is best at both. Although he mostly uses the Phantom, he is the only pro player who can seriously use the Ares or the Odin in a pro game, and not be considered trolling. Both guns are very heavy and can have unreliable accuracy, but they have high firing rate and pe*******on. He can use them because he has the skills necessary to use them well: good movement and spray control. Couple that with top notch game sense, he's one of the few players who reliably wallbangs enemies. This unique and unorthodox playstyle is what made me compare him to Teiko High's ace player, Aomine. Aomine's playstyle in the anime is very unorthodox, flashy, and slightly reckless, just like Sinatraa's. But they both get the job done.
*Note that this comparison is just for fun and are just my opinions. You might have a different opinion than me or your comparisons might be different, and it's ok. It's just been a joy to watch the Sentinels the past few months and in the recent NA Challengers 3 in which they dominated again. It'll be fun to see how they play in Berlin later this year. Aside from Kuroko no Basuke, they also remind me of how dominant the Golden State Warriors of the NBA in their title runs this past decade. These runs do not last forever, and we should appreciate them while we can.
