The Palace of Shaki Khans
The Palace of Shaki Khans was a summer residence for the Shaki Khans. It was built in 1797 by Muhammed Hasan Khan. It features decorative tiles, fountains and several stained-glass windows. In July 2019, the Historic Centre of Sheki with the Khan’s Palace was inscribed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Shaki Caravanserai
Caravanserai were built in form of castles with one gate, closing of which made them impregnable during dangerous incidents. There are two magnificent caravanserai of XVIII-XIX centuries in Shaki, which reached present days and traditionally named “Yukhary” and “Ashaghy” caravanserai, which means “Upper” and “Lower” accordingly.
The Church of Kish
Kish is one of the oldest villages in present-day Azerbaijan, and is well-known for a church here, during the period of Caucasian Albania.
Three Saints Church
Nukha Three Saints Church is also known as Round Temple is former Russian Orthodox church building located in Shaki near Khan's Palace, named after Cappadocian Fathers.
Thor Heyerdahl
The famous Norwegian explorer and ethnographer Thor Heyerdahl visited Azerbaijan on four occasions. Heyerdahl went on to hypothesize that thousands of years ago Scandinavians had immigrated from the region, which is now known as Azerbaijan. He conducted studies in Albanian temple in the village of Kish (I-II centuries) in Shaki, and his bust was erected in the village as of its confirmation.
