Detectives from Organised Crime Gangs Group have charged five people on 22 offences, in relation to a shooting incident at Underwood on July 13.

Just after 12.20pm, it will be alleged a Toyota Hilux and Mitsubishi Outlander attended Nevilles Street, where the Toyota Hilux entered a car park.

Shots were then allegedly fired from the front passenger seat of the Hilux, towards a 35-year-old man who was standing in the car park.

It will be further alleged the 35-year-old man produced a firearm and fired shots towards the Hilux, before it drove away from the scene along with the Mitsubishi Outlander.

A roller door at a nearby business was allegedly damaged in the incident.

Police will allege the 35-year-old man and persons in the vehicles were members of rival gangs.

Police attended and declared the area a crime scene, launching Operation Victor Subtraction to investigate the circumstances of the incident.

At approximately 1.45pm that day, a 23-year-old man presented to Princess Alexandra Hospital with a gunshot wound to his ankle. It will be alleged he was the driver of the Toyota Hilux.

No other persons were physically injured.

Following an extensive investigation by Logan, Brisbane and Gold Coast Major Organised Crime Squads alongside Logan Criminal Investigation Branch and Brisbane and Gold Coast Taskforce Maxima, a series of six search warrants were executed with the assistance of specialist police on Friday July 28 at properties in Crestmead, Kuraby, Drewvale, Heritage Park, Parkinson and Alexandra Hills.

At Crestmead, a 35-year-old man was taken into custody. The man has been charged with one count each of attempted murder, unlawful possession of weapons, discharge firearm public place, wilful damage and contravening an order (access to mobile phone).

He was remanded in custody and his matter is next expected to be heard before Beenleigh Magistrates Court today, July 31.

At Kuraby, a 20-year-old man was taken into custody. He has been charged with one count each of attempted murder, discharge weapon public place, wilful damage and two counts of unlawful possession of weapons.

At Drewvale, a 23-year-old man was taken into custody.

At Heritage Park, a 25-year-old man was taken into custody.

On Friday at approximately 1.15pm, a 25-year-old Drewvale man presented to Beenleigh Police Station, where he was taken into custody.

The three men have each been charged with one count each of attempted murder, unlawful possession of weapon (used in indictable offence), discharge weapon public place and wilful damage.

They, along with the 20-year-old man, were remanded in custody and their matters are expected to next be heard before Beenleigh Magistrates Court on August 22.

The Mitsubishi Outlander was located on July 20 at Slacks Creek. The Toyota Hilux remains outstanding.

Organised Crime Gangs Group Detective Superintendent Troy Pukallus said Queensland Police Service (QPS) condemn the actions of any persons who conduct themselves in such a dangerous manner, and unlawfully discharge a firearm in a public space.

“This behaviour is reckless and endangers the lives of innocent bystanders, it is extremely fortunate that no member of the public was injured in this incident,” Detective Superintendent Pukallus said.

“The subsequent investigation by both specialist and regional investigators resulted in quickly identifying and apprehending those allegedly involved to further protect members of the community. Any persons with information relating to this incident are encouraged to contact Policelink or Crimestoppers.”

Investigations are ongoing.

Cold Case | Detectives from the Homicide Cold Case Investigation Team (CCIT) have obtained an arrest warrant for a 70-year-old man in relation to the 1997 murder of Meaghan Louise Rose on the Sunshine Coast.

On 18 July 1997, 25-year-old Meaghan Rose was located deceased at the base of Point Cartwright Cliffs at Mooloolaba.

Her vehicle which contained a number of personal items was located at the top of the cliffs.

Initial investigations suggested her death was non-suspicious, however new information came to light revealing suspicious circumstances, including a life insurance policy which was taken out prior to her death.

Homicide CCIT detectives re-examining the case, attended a Victorian address on June 25 to speak to 70-year-old Keith Lees in relation to the ongoing investigation. (Photo 1)

The following the day, June 26, his vehicle was located abandoned at Portland, with Victoria Police commencing a search and rescue operation.

Mr Lees provided a false name when spoken to by police later that day in Port Fairy, Victoria.

QPS investigations with the assistance of Victoria Police, have identified that Mr Lees was seen at a Waurn Ponds shopping centre on June 27 where he purchased new clothes.

He was further sighted leaving Shepparton Train Station on June 27 (Photo 2). He was also seen wearing a distinctive black and white jacket (Photo 3).

Information indicates he may be seeking casual work in the farming and fruit picking industries.

While investigations remain ongoing into his current whereabouts, it is believed he could still be in Victoria, or have travelled interstate.

It will be alleged Keith Lees was known to Meaghan Louise Rose.

Detectives are appealing Keith Lees to come forward, and to the public for anyone with information regarding his whereabouts to immediately contact police.

Anyone who may sight him, is asked to not approach him and immediately call Triple Zero (000). For no urgent information, please contact Crimestoppers.

A $500,000 reward remains active for information which leads to the apprehension and conviction of the person or persons responsible for Meaghan’s murder. The Government reward further offers an opportunity for indemnity against prosecution for any accomplice, not being the person who actually committed the murder, who first gives such information.
