Please understand this is not a forecast but one of many different types of model runs. This is interesting and concerning because since this afternoon several models are in agreement of a super cell capable of producing a tornado riding the state line of KS and Oklahoma with initiation between 3-5pm. Again this one of many model runs...and isn't a forecast..but this is interesting and concerning. Tomorrow's severe weather threat will depend highly on how fast early morning storms can get out of the area and the atmosphere can recover. The last several runs show cloud cover clearing west of I35 by noon...if this happens...the atmosphere will be more than supportive...

01/05/2022

Model data is becoming increasingly concerning for a high end tornado threat tomorrow in the plains...if you have family in South Central KS, Northern and Central Oklahoma please make sure they are aware of tomorrow's possibility of severe weather. As this threat pushes east tomorrow into the Ozarks the threat for damaging winds, hail and flooding, as well as an isolated tornado threat will be present.

I'll be headed towards the Wichita area tomorrow late morning. Stay tuned.

Tonight.

The latest HRRR model continues to push back storm initiation after midnight now. Storms will begin to fire anywhere from 11pm-1am in SE KS and SWMO as semi discreet cells and quickly form into a linear line. These storms are showing capabilities of being very large hail producers especially in the SWMO area. Get your cars inside or protected if you have the ability to do so before you go to bed. The tornado risk is not high but it's not zero..damaging winds and hail will along with heavy rain will be the primary hazards tonight, however a brief tornado cannot be ruled out.

Tuesday is looking to be one of the biggest risk days for tornadoes that we have seen in the last several years in traditional "tornado alley". From Omaha NE, through NE, Central and Southern Kansas, all the way through eastern and central Oklahoma, West and SWMO down to Texas. Moisture will be less as you travel north, but a more favorable wind profile.. moisture will be more with a less favorable wind profile as you go south...but still a VERY supportive environment for tornadoes. The biggest unknown right now is the coverage of storms..but if a storm develops within this area Tuesday..its going to become severe very quickly and pose a significant threat. Model runs today are now consistent with super cells firing along the dry line in the afternoon.

This is now a couple days out and we are now into the storm season. Have a way to get warnings, especially as this system pushes east it will present a nocturnal threat especially to western MO. You have time to prepare now...clean your safe rooms out , make sure you have your phone settings set to receive weather alerts, and have a plan in place.

We will be out Tuesday to provide live updates and will zero in on a target area in the next day.

I'm not gonna scream doomsday and hop on the panic causing bus. However soundings this morning continue to show an atmosphere very conductive for severe weather development this evening into the overnight hours. All modes of severe weather are possible including the increasingly likelihood of tornadoes, some of which could be violent and long lived. Don't wait till tonight or when a warning occurs to have a plan. Have a plan to seek shelter if needed and have a way to receive weather alerts.

SWMO, NWARK folks stay weather aware today. Storm development appears to be around 3-4pm currently near the Parsons KS area. We will be out in the field tracking storms as they progress south and east into SWMO. Large hail and damaging winds are the main threats, an isolated tornado cannot be ruled out. Models show the most favorable environment for tornado activity along and just west of the MO state line and south of Pittsburgh KS.

The great plains and "tornado alley" are expected to wake up within the next two weeks...now is a good time to prepare yourself and your family for severe weather season. Have a way to get weather alerts, weather radios are a great and inexpensive tool to receive immediate alerts in your area, however not everyone is at home when severe weather happens! Make sure you have your emergency alerts turned on through your cellular device. Have a plan in place if something does happen, talk about meeting locations, have a bag of supplies ready for each family member to be self sufficient for atleast 72hrs. FEMA has a great resource for more information on preparing for disasters by following this link! https://www.fema.gov/press-release/20210318/how-build-kit-emergencies #:~:text=A%20basic%20emergency%20supplies%20kit,Weather%20Radio%20with%20tone%20alert

If you live in the plains....things may start to get active. Pay attention to Tuesday and Wednesday.

Colder temps and snow...yes SNOW chances begin Tuesday. Ground temps have remained fairly warm keeping the chances of accumulation limited and to elevated surfaces. That being said...first week of May and last week of April long term models are trending towards an active weather pattern...stay tuned.

Big cool down for the next two weeks! No severe weather in the immediate future. Get out and enjoy the beautiful weather today! Highs go back down to the low to mid 60s lows down into the high 30s and 40s next two weeks.

Well it was good news for people yesterday, bad day for chasing. As thought, the mornings convection and increase in cloud cover only allowed the temps to get to around the mid and high 60s, the cold front moved through quicker than thought and undercut alot of storms and forming more into a line. It's still very early in the season. The next week or so looks to remain calm and mild.

Good morning everyone, we have a chance of severe weather today in the 4 corners area. The biggest tornado threat appears to be across SE Arkansas today however we also could see a few brief tornados in our area. Don't get caught up on numbers or colors, large violent tornados have occurred in areas on slight risk days in 2% areas.

The models have been in agreement the last several runs of storms initiating in western Mo around 12-1 pm and traveling east through the afternoon and evening. These morning storms are not the main concern and while could be strong at times the main threat is later today. Day time heating and the ability for cloud cover to clear will be the biggest question today how much instability there is for the storms later.

Facebook is not allowing us to stream live, so I will share a link from my twitch page where we will be live streaming today as storms began this afternoon! So please watch the page and follow the link to watch! You do not need to down the app to watch!
