The economy is great but everyone seems poised to blame the President for that?
It’s true. By every metric that’s been used to measure economies in the 20th century, other Presidents would invade a small South American nation and topple their Democratically elected leaders for. Unemployment is the lowest of my lifetime. The Stock Market is so high it would make Reagan remember where he was. Retail sales are soaring.
So why then, in the middle of all of this luxury, is your average American ready to hand the keys over to a rambling, s*x felon, with a history of telling people to inject bleach?
It’s the Capitalism, stupid.
Look, I’m a Socialist. So take what I’m saying with the boulder of salt it deserves. But I’m not advocating for a complete overhaul (at this moment).
Democrats AND Republicans are destined to be stuck in this loop of good economies and disgruntled voters. Both parties represent and are full of capitalists.
It’s why everyone in the UK is destined to be a failure post-Brexit. The guys in charge are all pro-Brexit. It’s apart of their personality now. To be anti-Brexit would be to no longer be a member of the ruling party. Since the fix is clearly to try and get back in with the EU, they’ll never get there.
Republicans are the Party of unfettered Capitalism. And Democrats are so scared of being labeled a socialist they begin every speech with “I’m the most pro-capitalist that’s ever lived”. (It doesn’t matter they’re labeled as communist/socialists by the Republicans no matter what they do)
Neither is going to admit the problem. Which means everyone is destined to fail at trying to “fix” it. Biden thinks EV charging stations and more jobs will fix it. We have more jobs. Trump thinks tariffs sending the military to the southern border will fix it. Immigrants, even illegal ones, are a net 7 TRILLION dollar gain on the economy, you white supremacist thugs!
But if we did admit the problem, we could see some things. We’d see inflation was largely a result of corporate greed. The Stock Market is high because we’re being price gouged. Wages are up, but only for 1990’s wages. Unemployment is low because a lot of folks are working multiple jobs to get by and others have quit looking, a sign of despair for some.
Biden wants to make child care affordable. The problem is not child care being outrageously expensive (but holy f**k it is way too expensive and something needs to be done). The problem is families are being squeezed so hard all able bodied adults must work ten hour days six days a week. Have you seen the pro-Union meme about thanking a Union for your 40 hour work week and two day weekends? How many of us actually have that? Or have the financial security to tell their boss they can only work 9-5 Monday through Friday?
If the average American is working 60+ a week to make ends meet, is the economy really “Great”? If you’re a layoff away from losing it all, are you feeling awesome about the future?
Socially there’s a whole laundry list of reasons NOT to vote for the guy who will usher in the American Taliban. But unless Democrats can admit what the problem is, they’re never going to fix it and will have to HOPE the American voter doesn’t want to spin the wheel and give fascism a try. Because corporations and billionaires LOVE fascism. They won’t fight it. Pepsi won’t make tone deaf Kylie Jenner ad saying it’s a bad. Muskerberg won’t adjust their algorithms to suddenly drop their techbro libertarianism views.
S**t, I’m not even telling you whom you should vote. Just call/write your representatives and tell them the problem is capitalism. Then organize and form a Union under your bosses nose. And if you see a picket line, don’t cross it.
