As teachers, we work to become professionals at adaptation. We adapt to a constant flux of student needs, first and foremost, but we also learn to adapt to those external forces we cannot control.
But this… this is too much.
Harm against children is an affront to our shared citizenship. It’s against a value that most all of us share through a myriad of cultural, spiritual, political, and social views. Schools are flawed and imperfect, but they are one of the most important institutions in our society, and they must, I say MUST be free from threats against its population.
Our hearts go out to the families of those lost and affected by this tragedy.
