Described as a pianist with “power and finesse” (Dallas Arts Society), “beautiful and fiery” (KMFA Austin) and having a “sense of color, balance and texture” (Austin Chamber Music Center) Artina McCain, has a built a three-fold career as a performer, educator and speaker. Recent performance highlights include guest appearances with the Dallas Symphony Orchestra, Oregon East Symphony, and the Memphis Symphony Orchestra. As a recitalist, her credits include performances at the Mahidol University in Bangkok, Hatch Recital Hall in Rochester and in 2022 her debut at Wigmore Hall in London.

Dedicated to promoting the works of Black and other underrepresented composers, McCain curates Black Composers Concerts for multiple arts organizations and is an American Prize winner for her solo piano recordings of these works. Recently, she won a Gold Global Music Award for her recent solo album project Heritage.

Currently, she is Coordinator of Keyboard Studies at the University of Memphis.

Artina McCain is a Yamaha Artist.

“I moved to the US from Liberia, West Africa in 1992 with my mom and two sisters and it’s been a whirlwind ever since.
God blessed our family and bought us safely here. I have my master’s in Educational Administration and currently work at a local college in Pensacola, FL. I live with the love of my life, my husband Dr. Rafael Griffin and our three beautiful children.

We’re back with a new episode of Becoming Her Podcast!🎉 Take a moment to stream the latest episode and get to know our guest, Dr. Rasheda Likely!

Dr. Rasheda Likely, a native of Pensacola, FL, earned both her Bachelor’s and Master’s of Science in Biology from the University of North Florida. She holds a Ph.D. in Education from Drexel University. Dr. Likely’s research interests include developing decolonized science curricula, activities, and assessments. Her doctoral dissertation study, "Lotions and Potions: Exploring Black Girls' Engagement in and Perceptions of Science Practices through Hair Care, situated hair care as a scientific content topic and the making of hair and skin care products as science activities including a do-it-yourself (DIY) video as an assessment instrument.

Dr. Likely currently serves as an Assistant Professor of Science Education at Kennesaw State University where she teaches science methods courses to pre-service elementary teachers. She takes great delight in re-imagining learning experiences that reflect and center the brilliance of Black girls. In her free time, she is settling into a new apartment in the Atlanta area and continues to experiment with making her own new scents and products.
