Been adulting a little and taking my time with the last bit of Moon & Shadow. I also may be accepting a job offer, so that will severally affect my 2024 writing goals. Anyway, 30k-ish left on Moon & Shadow. I'm taking my time because:

1) I'm about to gallop off in a direction I should not...
2) I have a new trilogy I really would prefer to start...
3) I'm about to kill a lot of characters I've enjoyed writing almost every day for roughly five years...
4) There's going to be some rewriting for the novels, and I need to slow my roll and consider those changes as I wrap up the Vella...

This wall of text has a moral at the end...

I've been happily surprised with my KU page reads all month. I'm creeping up on the four year mark on KDP, and I released the second edition of Savannah's Awakening back in Oct. Oct was my best month ever on KDP by a large margin. Nov? Not so much, and the drop to an okay sales level that was still better than previous months made me worry. But this month? Second best month ever across the board, beating out the previous second-best month ever of last Dec. And it's only the 15th. And I'm not currently running ads.

I'm certain Dec numbers were benefited by the ads I was running and Stuff Your Kindle. I'm also certain this month's numbers benefitted from the afterglow of SYK in a number of ways, including opening up foreign markets I rarely got more than 1% or so out of. The UK and Germany are double-digit standouts. And I'm not running ads in those regions. Yet.

I'm not dejected any longer about KDP. I'm motivated to get the second edition of Savannah's Temptation released, then move right into the other 7 novels I have finished on Vella. I won't say "rapid release" bc new content comes first for me, but expect eight more Carnal Sanctuary novels and a couple omnibuses/collections to release throughout 2024. I'll work in hardbacks and maybe a extra-spicy Kickstarter later in the year if I have the bandwidth.

Moral of the story? Have faith in your content, work the process, join giveaways, and run fugging ads. Also, grab your free universal book links from Draft to Digital to help expand those foreign market sales.

He was worried for his queen. And he was irritable because he was spread too thin dealing with a mansion filled with scheming demigods on top of the Dark Moon operation. It concerned him that Illyana wouldn’t let Dallen lead a team to the Ridge to deal with Domingo or that a small contingent of huntresses hadn’t returned from their task of capturing the renegade Shadowcaste. Illyana was underestimating both her son and the god killers.

As Ritter fiddled with the satphone and gave Simone a wink, he drew a shroud of darkness around them. His skill in shadow magic wasn’t as good as a huntress’s, but he could obscure him and Simone so that cameras or casual passersby would not take interest. The spell wasn’t as strong as blind sight, but it would work for their purposes.

Even though he preferred not to deal with government agencies, he knew the man had a sharp mind and a functioning moral compass. Ritter hated thralling him so brutally. “It has been decided for you, so there will be no argument.”

Artemio bristled, sensing paranormal f**kery. He elbowed Nazario out of his semi-thralled state. Shadows whispered imminent violence, but Ritter worked fast.

I hit the half-way mark on Moon & Shadow S3 this past weekend. I'm def at the point where I need to go back and reread stuff from S1 and S2 to make sure I'm wrapping things up nicely. Doing light edits and having fun reading little snippets like this as I refresh my memory on little details and plot threads that need to come to a head...

The two stagger-stepped as the ground give way beneath them. They cast worried glances at each other, realizing the sensation was in their minds. Then Emanuela screamed. Her psionic screech filled the night, sending a horde of ravens and vultures fleeing in the dead colony.

Fear and despair dropped them to their knees, boring into the minds of the Shadowcaste and the demigod. The desert trembled with them.

Prob not a redemption arc for Domingo, but I can tease it!

The desert spoke to him, but it resisted telling him plain truths. Or, rather, the Dark Moon prevented the air from feeding him insights he had come to count on. He knew the desert goddess had freed herself from the sand, but he didn’t know the connection between her and the ravens. Yet. He sensed the lanky Lilyfine Eliza was involved, but something beyond the dead colony blocked his ability to read the desert, something besides the Dark Moon.

He was impressed with Desmond and Eliza. Both had grown into their own since they were all children. Was freeing Desmond a mistake? If he sided with the goddess and Eliza against him, he would have a war on two fronts, one that would bring every wolf shifter in the Sonora to his front door. He needed to prevent that at all costs. His preference would be to ally with them and the goddess.
