Sumiyoshi-taisha is the headquarters of Sumiyoshi-jinja Shrine, which consists of about 2,300 temples throughout Japan. Sumiyoshi-taisha is one of the 3 largest Sumiyoshi shrines in Japan, along with Sumiyoshi-jinja in Shimonoseki and Hakata, boasting a history of over 1800 years. This is a famous temple throughout the country, every year more than 2 million people visit the temple on the occasion of the new year.
