I remember the first time I had a meal prepared by a slow cooker.

It was a Sunday lunch under my mom's roof. What was particularly weird about this specific Sunday was that lunch was prepared early in the morning. I was properly puzzled. "Why are we making lunch at 6AM? Won't it be cold by then?"

Hours and hours later the food was ready at lunch time. Pipping hot, ready to be devoured. Oh boy! Little did I know I was in for one of the best meals I've ever had.

I didn't know a few simple ingredients and some time could create amazing food. I enjoyed my meal, but as time went on and I grew older, I relished the lessons the meal came with even more. Here are a few:

1. PATIENCE IS KEY
The same way a meal requires time to cook and develop the flavors, so do our goals and aspirations. However slow it may be, embrace the process/

2. CONSISTENCY YIELDS AMAZING RESULTS
A slow cooker methodically works it's magic, gently cooking over a consistent low heat. Getting where you want to be is often a results of consistent effort and dedication. No matter the task, small steady steps lead to remarkable results.

3. SIMPLICITY IS EXTRAORDINARY
Most slow cooker recipes rely on a simple selection of ingredients combined with time and love. It's usually the least complicated things that have the greatest impact in our lives. Simplify your goals, prioritize what matters, and see them through with consistency.

"In a world of fast frying, embrace the slow cook."

The older I get, the more I realize that life has some non negotiables that you simply cannot get by without. For me it's these:

1. A good diet
2. Regular exercise
3. A consistent sleep schedule

“COMPARISON IS A THEIF OF JOY”, or at least that’s what people say.

I don’t think comparison itself is a problem.

Without comparison it’s hard to know whether you’re on course or not. You only know you’re overspeeding when you compare your current speed to the speed limit. You only know you’ve passed an exam when you compare your grade with the minimum requirement (Uni folks know the crucial 50%). You only know you’ve gained weight when you compare your previous weight with your current weight. What we compare ourselves with is the issue, not comparison itself.

We often compare ourselves with other people. We compare ourselves with other people’s lives we see on social media (which if you don’t know already, is mostly a compilation of just the good parts). We compare our experiences with those of others, even without full context. What’s even worse is we don’t even compare ourselves with where we could be some time from now and where we were some time before

Comparison is a good thing. It’s a marker for progress. It’s a tool you can use to your advantage. Just don’t let it control you.

You can start here: “Compare Yourself to Who You Were Yesterday, Not to Who Someone Else Is Today.”
