At only 26 years of age, Prisca Achuki became the CEO of Western Nyota Television and Radio, a position she has held since 2017. The station enjoys an audience reach of 6.2million people with presence in Busia, Bungoma, Vihiga, Kakamega, Transnzoia, Kisumu and Kisii counties.
Prisca is a fourth-year student pursuing a Bachelor of Business Administration & Management at SPU. Prior to joining SPU, she had pursued a Diploma in journalism that saw her join the Kenya Broadcasting Corporation (KBC) for internship. Prisca then joined the insurance industry as a sales executive. The young CEO recounts a time where she was a front office attendant earning a salary of less than Ksh 10,000. This gave her greater determination to begin a broadcasting station.
The 32-year-old has a passion for developing local communities, more so the areas of reach as a broadcasting house. She holds a number of licenses & certifications, her most memorable accolades being the ISO: 9001 Best Lead implementer in 2014 while working at the Institute of Advanced Technology.
The first born, from a family of five enjoys playing volleyball in her free time. Prisca however aims to leave a legacy of building men and women of character and faith, than of means.
“What is planted is that which counts. The practicality of courses, attention given to students at SPU is amazing! The capacity to learn is a gift, ability to learn is a skill, and willingness to learn is a choice,” says Prisca.
Her advice to upcoming CEO’s, “No matter what industry you choose to invest your time and energy, always remember that if you don’t own it, you can’t control it or depend on it. To be a good leader do not forget how it was like to be a follower,” she concludes.
