UPDATE:
Officers with the Albuquerque Police Department have arrested Andres Lorenzo Martinez, 18, for outstanding warrants that stemmed from an Aggravated Battery with a Deadly Weapon.
On January 25, 2023 an alert was issued from the university regarding a suspected carjacking. A clear photo of the offender was shared publicly assisting in identifying the individual. The victim, a 55-year-old male told officers, Martinez got out of a vehicle near Martin Luther King Blvd. and University Blvd. and threatened to take his car. When the man attempted to take photos of Martinez, he stuck a gun in his face and then struck him with the pistol. After being struck, the male stated Martinez tried to take his phone but was unable to, and kicked the phone away before fleeing.
Through further investigation by APD’s newly created Investigative Enhancement Division, it was determined the incident was not a carjacking but actually a road rage incident.
On February 2, 2023, APD issued a wanted flyer for Martinez. On February 7, 2023, detectives located Martinez at a residence near Gold and Central Avenue. Although Martinez barricaded inside the residence, detectives were able to safely take him into custody.
Martinez will be booked into the Metropolitan Detention Center on charges of Aggravated Battery with a Deadly Weapon and Attempt to Commit a Second-Degree Felony (To Wit Armed Robbery).

On January 25, 2023 an alert was issued from the university regarding a suspected carjacking. A clear photo of the offender was shared publicly assisting in identifying the individual. Through further investigation by APD’s newly created Investigative Enhancement Division, it was determined the incident was not a carjacking but actually a road rage incident. Following this incident Martinez assaulted a 55-year-old man by striking him with a firearm.
APD has issued a warrant for Martinez’s arrest on charges of Aggravated Battery with a Deadly Weapon.
