Soundtrack to Harmony of Love - A tapestry. Marian Genet made a tapestry from the floor to the ceiling, named Harmony of Love. She was inspired by stories and experiences of people from all walks of life, who bring color to our lives with the unique little things they do. The audience was invited to lie down on the artwork and experience a world of positivity, femininity, sensuality, vulnerability, color, energy and movement.

Blabla Sounds brought this harmony of warm, feminine energy and the multiplicity of human stories to life in a choir of soulful vocals and represented the movement and positivity through the jazz rhythm and high-spirited lead melody.

Our score to the trailer of Selfmade - a series of interviews with self-made female entrepreneurs. Produced by Maya Creatives, a production company that gives a platform to untold stories, this series focuses on women from various sectors who share their greatest successes and daily challenges, as well as how they deal with both.

Blabla Sounds composed the scores for the Self Made webseries intro and trailer. Our goal was to create an upbeat, fierce vibe with a feminine touch, reflecting the positive and uplifting style of the series. The sentimental string section captures the dreams and hope of these self-believing entrepreneurs, while female vocals harmonize with inspirational strings to add a feminine touch. Cheerful guitar, bongos, finger snaps, and shakers contribute to the overall positive feeling of the show.

Additionally, the drum and bass section represents the challenges faced by these changemakers, conveying persistence and strength to overcome obstacles and break through glass ceilings. Our style draws inspiration from vintage funk and soul of Motown Records, along with contemporary artists like Lady Wray, Monophonics, and Lizzo, infusing the music with a self-affirming, badass rhythm.

Our Soundtrack to Final Memento - a short mood film by Lennox Schmidt about the difference between life in the city and life in nature. Schmidt’s style can be described as raw and hypnotizing with a surrealist feel. Final Memento was made for Blabla Sound’s own music and art event Feel It! De Expo 2021 and shown on various film festivals, including the Septimium Awards.

Story:
While internal motivation is hard to find during his tedious office hours, a clergy finds external materialist inspiration as he has tense but hilarious interactions with his boss. Then a surprise enters the office, followed by scenes that represent the beauty and peace of nature.

The Soundtrack:
Blabla Sounds recorded, edited and produced the music and sound of Final Memento. We captured the mood and the chemistry between the characters with faint blues guitar and silent breaks. The office scenes are accompanied with office sounds, including a loud clock that ticks the rhythm of office life. As the motivation and work ethos are set in motion, the music picks up the pace (this is where this teaser starts). When a surprise enters the office, angelic vocals introduce a new chapter to the film. We captured the beauty and peace of nature in the following scenes with a combination of elegant synthesizers and cello (see the second teaser on blablasounds.com). The movie is concluded with our own happy and chill neo-soul track Winner (by Simone Don feat. Blabla Sounds), which you can also find on Spotify.

Starring: Daniël Kolf
Written and directed by: Lennox Schmidt

Our soundtrack to Surrounding the Concrete - A photography and painting series. Lara-Leh Bogaard made two series of paintings and photos edited with paint, showing the silence that evolves in the evening twilight. What kind of mysterious night scenery takes place when nobody is outside? She used her imagination and inspiration from anime movies and nature to imagine what kind of fantasy creatures appear when it is completely silent.

Blabla Sounds expressed this silence with sounds of birds and other animals you can hear during twilight, which transitioned into nocturnal animals. The fantasy creatures were represented by classical cello music, with rhythmic pizzicato and strokes as steps of small and large animals that stride into the night scenery. Sentimental melodies were introduced to express the beauty of this imagined nocturnal landscape and the overwhelming emotions we would experience if we would see things we could not believe with our own eyes. This is also often people’s first reaction in anime when they witness the supernatural.

This artwork was exhibited at Feel It! De Expo, an art exhibition organized by Blabla Sounds during ADE 2021. Five artists developed and exhibited artworks within the theme ‘Connection to your surroundings’. We produced music for each of the artists, which could be listened to through headphones while watching the artworks. We organized Feel It! De Expo to create bonds with new artists and to connect to our audience in real life.

Our soundtrack to Reflections - a water and light installation. Michiel Kingma exhibited a light installation that simulates the reflections of light on water – a phenomenon you can often witness if you simply look around you. Think of the reflection of light on a lake that is naturally projected on a wall or a bridge.

Blabla Sounds created a soundscape with river sounds and tremolo guitar melodies that merge and separate like streams of water. The synthesizer and cello shimmer just like the sparkling light on the water itself and its surrounding surfaces.

Our soundtrack to Art Affects - A mixed media artwork. Cheyla Dortland made this art series with collage and spray paint. Inspired by funk, jazz and hip hop, the artworks represent how music brings people together. They show the infinity of the universe, in which people are tiny and quite insignificant beings. This adds a new perspective to our lives, our daily problems and our perceptions of each other. Whereas we can differ so much from each other, in the end we are all one under the same moon. Besides, if we do not feel that significant in the bigger scheme of things, we can also take ourselves and our problems a bit less seriously.

Blabla Sounds made a psychedelic funk soundtrack with a mystic and playful energy. With the introducing melodies and dynamic pad, we imagined rising up from the planet into space, as we saw tiny cars and people getting smaller until their lives and conundrums faded away. Then we were floating in space, experiencing a new way of being. To represent the statement that the universe makes about our insignificance and oneness, the bass and guitar together play an epic statement lick. The vocal harmonies sound reassuring and soothing, telling the story once more with their lyrics, concluded with a mantra that we are all one under the same moon. This way, we hope to bring people together once more with music, this time inspired by psychedelic funk and space.

Our Soundtrack to Museum van Loon's Spraakmakers - an art exhibition. Lennox Schmidt made six videos of artworks for Museum Van Loon wherein he brought the artworks to life through his camera movements. These videos and artworks were part of the exhibition Spraakmakers in which artists and art connoisseurs shared their experience of the art objects and added a historical perspective.

Blabla Sounds developed one soundtrack that matches all videos. We made a cello composition that portrays the movement of the film images, but also symbolizes the movements throughout art history. The majestic sound of the string orchestra emphasizes the beauty of the artworks and represents the aristocracy for whom they were made.

Fun fact: Each video starts with a wheel of fortune in which an artwork is selected out of the six, that is subsequently shown in the video. We needed to make a sound that sounds just like a wheel of fortune, since we do not have one in the studio. We hit every surface in the studio with every (drum)stick we could find end ended up hitting the cart board box of our cello’s bow rosin, that was lying on our particle-board IKEA desk.
