“Spirit possession beliefs have been recorded throughout history starting with Ancient Egyptians and were found to exist in 74% of a sample of 488 societies from around the world. Fits of blasphemous rage, manifestation of superhuman strength, homosexuality, alcoholism, obscene gestures and showing aversion to holy relics are all behaviors traditionally attributed to being possessed by a demonic spirit. In modern-day society, the attribution of these behaviors to being inhabited by an evil spirit is nothing but a tool of oppression, ostracism and dehumanization. In this work I specifically sought to bring forth and amplify instances that portray the mental state of identity disturbance, the struggle against hegemony as well as the intensity of the inner riot against all that is sacred of those who in lack of better words, we deem to be possessed.” - Andrei Slach
