*** Great partnership work helps save life of Aston Villa ***

WMP

We wanted to share the good work of officers, ambulance staff and fans after last night’s medical emergency during Aston Villa vs Olympiacos.

A fan in the Lower Holte End suffered a medical emergency just before half time. A quick-thinking member of the public began CPR on the man.

Two of our officers, PC Amrit Duggal and PC Darren Faulkner, made their way through the crowd with medics.

More officers were then sent in to the stand to support with the stewarding operation as the stand was cleared to allow medics room to work.

Insp Marc Butler said: "We would like to commend the Villa fans for their support in clearing the area to allow the man to get the help he needed.

"Our officers then transported the family of the man to the hospital.

“We would like to thank all our partners in what was a great example of club, police and ambulance staff working together.

“We wish the fan all the best with his recovery.”

*** Man sentenced to 15 years for r**e of woman in Birmingham ***

WMP

A man has been jailed for 15 years for ra**ng a woman in Birmingham.

Abdullah Alnamer, of Stadium Road, Birmingham, took advantage of a woman in the early hours of 23 January, 2022.

The woman - who was in her early 20s - had separated from friends following a night out in the city centre where he then approached her, and tried to entice her into his vehicle.

Alnamer took advantage of the woman after following her in his car, encouraging her to join him, and the next morning she was found to have been s*xually assaulted.

Alnamer then sold the vehicle used in the crime two days later.

However, following a lengthy and complex investigation including reviewing CCTV footage, along with forensic analysis, we identified Alnamer as the attacker.

Investigating officers then arrested the 35-year-old in March, 2023 - and he was charged with r**e.

Alnamer pleaded not guilty but following a trial he was convicted at Birmingham Crown Court this February. He was sentenced to 15 years in prison yesterday (1 May).

It is important to note that survivors of r**e are protected by law and have life-long anonymity.

We work closely with local partners and venues to ensure your safety on a night out.

*** Two jailed following Sutton Coldfield stabbing ***

WMP

Two teens have been jailed following a stabbing in Sutton Coldfield.

Tunuie Linton, 18, and another boy who cannot be named for legal reasons, both pleaded guilty to wounding following an incident in Churchill Parade in Sutton Coldfield, in May 2022.

On 22 May, 2022, Linton of Alston Road, Solihull, and the second boy, aged 17, assaulted a 20-year-old man outside a store, unprovoked, injured his hand, and stabbed him in the chest, where it missed his heart by less than one centimetre.

Thankfully, the victim survived the attack, and then following an extensive investigation including hours of CCTV footage, multiple ID parades, forensic work, and interviews, Linton and the 17-year-old were arrested and charged.

Both pleaded guilty to wounding, and were both sentenced to five years in prison at Birmingham Crown Court on 25 April.

*** Man sentenced to 18 years for r**e of teenage girl in Birmingham ***

WMP

A man has been jailed for 18 years for ra**ng a teenage girl from and subjecting her to numerous s*xual assaults.

Aaron Harvey, from Rugeley, Staffs, groomed the girl over a period of two years. At Wolverhampton Crown Court last Friday (26 April) Harvey was jailed for 18 years and handed a s*xual harm prevention order as well as a restraining order.

The 35-year-old had pleaded guilty to one charge of r**e, eight s*xual assaults and one charge of possessing extreme po*******hy when he appeared at court earlier this month.

Harvey’s offending came to light when the girl bravely spoke out telling officers the abuse first started when she was 14.

Harvey was arrested on August 14 2022 and taken into custody. Officers seized his iPhone where we discovered extreme pornographic videos and website searches for extreme s*x.

DC Kayleigh Driscoll, from the complex child abuse investigation team, said: “Harvey was a predatory individual who groomed his victim, s*xually assaulted her on numerous occasions and r**ed her. We are pleased with the sentence which send out a clear message that people who target vulnerable young people for their own s*xual gratification will be taken to court, convicted and will face many years behind bars.

“I must praise her courage for speaking out and reporting Harvey’s offending. We hope her bravery encourages others subjected to s*xual abuse and r**e to come forward. We are here to help and listen.”

It is important to note that survivors of r**e are protected by law and have life-long anonymity.

| Two men have been convicted after the shooting of a man in .

Usman Khan was found guilty of attempted murder and Amaan Ajaz was found guilty of assisting an offender after the shooting of a 32-year-old man in Washwood Heath on 30 April last year.

We were called after the man presented himself at Heartlands Hospital with gunshot wounds to his stomach and leg.

He had been travelling in a VW Golf in Shaw Hill Road when another car, a silver Toyota, pulled up alongside them and opened fire.

Officers tracked the movements of the car and the men in it, watching them get into a different car, a Seat, in Whitacre Road.

This car belonged to Ajaz, who drove them around the city until the trail was lost.

Following forensics work on the abandoned car, Ajaz was stopped driving the Seat on 5 May and arrested on suspicion of attempted murder along with the other occupants.

Clothing was found in the Seat and forensic work on the items found helped officers identify Khan.

Despite Khan fleeing to Pakistan on 10 May, he was arrested by officers in October after returning to Birmingham via Dubai.

Both Khan, 22 and Ajaz, 20, denied everything in interviews, with Ajaz tryng to claim he was simply running errands for a friend on the night, taking their clothes to a laundrette in .

Khan remained silent throughout his whole interview, answering "no comment" to all questions.

Despite this, officers were able to put together a compelling case against the two, leading to them being charged with attempted murder on 5 October last year.

The pair were convicted at Birmingham Crown Court on 26 April and will be sentenced at a later date.

Detective Inspector Francis Nock, from our Major Crimes Unit, said: "This was a brazen attempt on a man's life which could easily have led to his death.

"Thanks to the hard work of all the officers involved, we were able to identify, locate and arrest Khan and Ajaz.

"Fi****ms have no place on our streets and we are committed to tracking down and arresting those who would use them to commit crimes."

We’re continuing to take drugs, guns and serious criminals off the streets under our forcewide crackdown on organised crime – Operation Target.

In 2023, we recovered more than 130 fi****ms from the West Midlands, up from 121 the previous year, while the number of fi****ms discharges also fell.

Our proactive major crime team officers made a number of key arrests in recent weeks.

*** Man jailed for Birmingham fi****ms offence ***

WMP

A man has been jailed for fi****ms offences in Birmingham.

Martin Macdonald was sentenced to over five years of imprisonment - for possession of a firearm with intent to cause fear of violence - after pleading guilty at Birmingham Crown Court on 17 April (Wed).

Macdonald, of Station Road, Stechford, was arrested and subsequently charged following an incident in Lyttleton Road, Stechford, where the 42-year-old was seen brandishing a firearm and pointing it recklessly.

Our fi****ms officers quickly attended the scene where he was detained before any injury was inflicted, and the firearm was recovered.

Following a thorough investigation run by the Major Crime Team based at Wolverhampton Police Station, Macdonald was charged and subsequently sentenced.

DC Ryan Stokes of the Major Crime Team, said: "I would like to thank the West Midlands Police fi****ms officers whose prompt intervention removed this threat from the community.

"These reckless actions, if not intercepted, could have developed into a more tragic investigation.

"This case displayed criminal intent of the highest nature and for that, justice has been served. A split-second decision can destroy lives and rip families apart along with communities.

"We continue our fight in removing all illegal fi****ms from our streets."

We're currently running Operation Target which sees us take a defiant stand against a range of serious and organised crime offences.

Anyone with information about serious and organised crime in their neighbourhood, should report it to us via 101 or Live Chat. In case of an emergency, dial 999. Alternatively, reports can be made anonymously via the independent charity, Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111
