Britney Spears’ 13 year long conservatorship has finally ended!!🎉

Her release from her toxic conservatorship which was being enforced by her father comes after a Los Angeles judge ended it on Friday.

Fans have gathered outside the court to show their support for the 39 year old pop idol.

The conservatorship meant she could make no financial, career and personal decisions for herself. We are so glad she is out of that toxic arrangement 😍

The handball federation have ended the requirement for bikini bottoms in women’s volleyball.

After an outrage caused by the fine that was given to the Norwegian women’s volleyball team due to their decision to wear shorts instead of bikini bottoms, the ban had been lifted.

Unfortunately there are still many sexist uniforms in sports but this is a step in the right direction!

Josh Cavallo has made history as the world’s only openly gay male top-flight professional footballer after coming out.

In a public statement Cavallo says: ‘I am proud to publicly announce that I am gay. It’s been a journey to get to this point in my life, but I couldn’t be happier with my decision to come out. I have been fighting my sexuality for over six years now, and I’m glad I can put that to rest.

Growing up, I always felt the need to hide myself because I was ashamed. Ashamed I would never be able to do what I loved and be gay.

Hiding who I truly am, to pursue a dream I always wished for as a kid, to play football and be treated equally never felt like a reality.

Being a gay closeted footballer, I’ve had to learn to mask my feelings in order to fit the mould of a professional footballer. Growing up being gay and playing football were just two worlds that hadn’t crossed paths before. I’ve lived my life assuming that this was a topic never to be spoken about.

In football, you have a small window to achieve greatness and coming out publicly may have a negative impact on a career.

As a gay footballer, I know there are other players living in silence. I want to help change this, to show that everyone is welcome in the game and deserves the right to be their authentic self.’

Let's hope that Cavallos bravery will be an example and inspiration to other/ closeted footballers.

Congratulations !

The first reading of the civic bill, referred to by its authors as "Stop LGBT" is to be held at the next Sejm session in Poland. The purpose of the assembly may not be "to challenge marriage as a union between a man and a woman" (article 18 of Polish constitution) and "to promote same-sex unions or unions consisting of more than two people". The authors of the draft argue that their goal is to "defend the Constitution of the Republic of Poland". The CEO, Kaja Godek, of Życie i Rodzina Foundation (pro-life NGO) is behind this civil bill. She won a ban on abortion in Poland and is now returning to ban the Equality Marches and to ban the LGBTQ+ events in Poland. Please raise awareness about this issue. It is so close to my heart. As being Polish I am feeling so sorry to my rainbow family that they have to live in the country in which they are facing such issues. Be strong my colourful Poles. - Kamil

Gay's The Word opened its doors on 17 January 1979. The bookshop was set up by a group of gay socialists as a community space.

It was a key chapter in the British LGBTQ+ movement. Gay's The Word is the country’s first bookshop dedicated to q***r literature.

Introduced to some by the 2014 hit film 'Pride'. Since opening its doors in 1979, at a time of widespread homophobia, police raids and objections from the local council, Gay’s the Word has long been a beloved source of support, acceptance and information for the LGBTQ+ community.

The shop was named after an Ivor Novello musical.

Location: 66 Marchmont Street, Saint Pancras, WC1N 1AB. Nearest station is Russell Square

Trigger Warning: Brutality

It’s now 23 years since Matthew Shepard was beaten, tortured and left to die in what remains one of the worst homophobic hate crimes in American history.

Matthew Shepard was a 21-year-old student at the University of Wyoming when he was brutalised by two young men he met in a dive bar in Laramie, Wyoming on 6 October, 1998.

They offered to give him a ride home, but drove him to a remote rural area where they beat him into a coma and tied him to a barbed wire prairie fence. Then they stole his shoes before abandoning him to the elements in near-freezing conditions.

Shepard was found 18 hours later by a cyclist who at first mistook him for a scarecrow. He’d been pistol-whipped so many times he suffered four skull fractures and a crushed brain stem. Reports described how his face was completely covered in blood, except where it had been partially cleansed by his tears.

Shepard’s injuries were too severe for doctors to operate, and he never woke up after losing consciousness in that cold field in Wyoming. He died in hospital six days later.

It prompted a reckoning on tacit tolerance of homophobia, and Hollywood celebrities were quick to take on the cause. Ellen Degeneres attended a vigil on the steps of the US Capitol, Madonna complained to the University of Wyoming, Elton John sent flowers to the funeral and Barbara Streisand personally called the Albany county sheriff’s office to demand action.

When the case went to trial it cast light on another uncomfortable truth: the shocking lack of hate crime protections for the q***r community.

🇨🇳🎮🏳️‍🌈 China to ban video games featuring same-sex relationships and 'effeminate' men.

This isn’t the first time that rules aimed at the LGBTQ+ community were implanted within the law.

Back in September, President Xi Jinping banned “effeminate men” from appearing on television.

The policy was created to “resolutely put an end to sissy men” after officials worried that Chinese pop stars weren’t masculine enough.

The broadcast regulator also said that Chinese television should “vigorously promote excellent Chinese traditional culture, revolutionary culture and advanced socialist culture” instead of “vulgar internet celebrities.”

Happy Bi Visibility Day! 🏳️‍🌈

This is the day where we are celebrating the 'B' in our beautiful LGBTQ+ community.

Marked each year since 1999, Bi Visibility Day raises bi awareness and challenges bisexual & biromantic erasure. 2021 will be the 23nd year that we have celebrated bisexual life on 23 September.

Bi people are often the forgotten part of the LGBT community. Our experiences are commonly assumed to be the same as le***an and gay experiences, and our identities are frequently made invisible or dismissed as something that doesn’t exist, by people both inside and outside of this community.

We are highly recommending 'Why do we need Bi Visibility Day?' by George Alabaster which can be found on www.stonewall.org.uk

A week ago today, the UK was left traumatised by the news that Jake Davidson, who was involved in online incel communities, had shot dead six people in Plymouth. The victims included his own mother and a three-year old girl, before turning the gun on himself. This terrorist attack was the deadliest mass shooting in Britain in over 10 years.

Do we need to pay more attention to incel culture?

This shooting isn’t the first incident of a young man killing in the name of misogyny. In 2014 Elliot Roders killed six people in Isla Vista, California, his deep rooted loathing of women which was caused by the fact he hadn’t lost his virginity he since became an ‘incel hero’ and inspires many other men to despise and attack women.

Incels should be treated like terrorists. There needs to be more support for vulnerable men who are looking for a community to turn to and there needs to be more education both online and offline about the damaging and harmful affects of misogyny.

Q***r Icon Profile 🌈

Who is Evelyn Ho**er?

Evelyn Ho**er's pioneering research debunked the popular myth that homosexuals are inherently less mentally healthy than heterosexuals, leading to significant changes in how psychology views and treats people who are gay.

In the 1950's, Dr. Evelyn Ho**er studied 30 homosexual males and 30 heterosexual males recruited through community organizations. The two groups were matched for age, IQ, and education. None of the men were in therapy at the time of the study. Dr. Ho**er administered three projective tests, which measure people's patterns of thoughts, attitudes, and emotions--the Rorschach, in which people describe what they see in abstract ink blots, the Thematic Apperception Test [TAT] and the Make-A-Picture-Story [MAPS] Test), in which people tell stories about different pictures. Unaware of each subject's sexual orientation, two independent Rorschach experts evaluated the men's overall adjustment using a 5-point scale. They classified two-thirds of the heterosexuals and two-thirds of the homosexuals in the three highest categories of adjustment. When asked to identify which Rorschach protocols were obtained from homosexuals, the experts could not distinguish respondents' sexual orientation at a level better than chance. A third expert used the TAT and MAPS protocols to evaluate the psychological adjustment of the men. As with the Rorschach responses, the adjustment ratings of the homosexual and heterosexuals did not differ significantly." Based on these findings, Dr. Ho**er tentatively suggested that homosexuals were as psychologically normal as heterosexuals.

Ho**er's work was the first to empirically test the assumption that gay men were mentally unhealthy and maladjusted. The fact that no differences were found between gay and straight participants sparked more research in this area and began to dismantle the myth that homosexual men and women are inherently unhealthy.

Men hurt in homophobic attack at Birmingham's Gay Village

Rob and Patrick, in their 30s, were outside the Missing Bar in the city's Gay Village on Sunday.

West Midlands Police said the abuse came from a group of four men in a black SUV, who then got out and assaulted the victims.

Rob was knocked unconscious in the attack and said it was "shocking that would happen in 2021, in the UK".

He said he and his partner Patrick had been at a friend's housewarming party and decided towards the end of the night to go dancing in the Gay Village.

As they left Missing Bar he said he saw the men with balloons in the car and jokingly asked them if it was their birthday.

"They did not like that and went into all sort of foul language, including homophobic slurs directed at us," he said.

The violence towards LGBTQ+ people is on unacceptable rise, there needs to be something done about it. What is your opinion?

13/08/2021

The term q***rbaiting refers to the practice of implying non-heterosexual relationships or attraction (in a TV show, for example) to engage or attract an LGBTQ audience or otherwise generate interest without ever actually depicting such relationships or sexual interactions.

For example, a TV show may be accused of q***rbaiting when interactions between two same-sex characters are consistently suggestive of sexual attraction or a sexual relationship but the characters never actually enter into such a relationship (including and especially when their sexuality isn’t otherwise discussed or portrayed).

The term q***rbaiting is used to criticize the practice as an attempt to take advantage of and capitalize on the appearance or implication of LGBTQ+ relationships without actually having real LGBTQ+ representation.

In June 2021, the term became a topic in the news when some accused singer Billie Eilish of q***rbaiting after she posted photos from the set of the music video for her song “Lost Cause.” The video features Eilish dancing and having fun with other women (in ways that some consider sexually suggestive). Eilish posted the photos with the message “i love girls,” which was interpreted by some as being suggestive of a sexual attraction to women.

Others, including some in the LGBTQ+ community, defended Eilish, rejecting the accusation of q***rbaiting and further noting that no one should be pressured to reveal or explain their sexuality.

The Gender Data Gap is a serious issue that not a lot of people are talking about.

The lack of data and funding in regards to women is unjust and it is making the world a dangerous place to live.

In Caroline Criado Perez’s book “Invisible Women: Exposing the Data Bias in a world Designed for Men” she talks about the gender data gap in more depth.

We need a fairer world for all genders!

🇪🇺 VS 🇵🇱🇭🇺

The EU executive has launched legal action against Hungary and Poland to defend LGBTQ+rights in the latest battle over values with the two nationalist governments in central Europe.

The announcement that Hungary and Poland’s governments could end up in the EU’shighest court is part of an ongoing existential fight for the rule of law and freedom fromdiscrimination in the heart of Europe.

The case against Hungary was triggered by a recently adopted law banishing the depiction ofLGBTQ+ people in books and TV for under-18s, a measure denounced as “shameful” by the European Commission’s president, Ursula von der Leyen.

In Poland, the commissionconsiders that local authorities have failed to help with its inquiries into resolutions in favourof “LGBT-ideology-free zones”, passed in more than 100 Polish towns and villages.

What do you think the EU should do to Poland and Hungary in that matter?

Thousands took to the streets in Tbilisi, Georgia, on Sunday, to demand the resignation of prime minister Irakli Garibashvili, following the death of a journalist after being beaten by anti-LGBT+ protesters.

They could be seen in front of the Georgian parliament, holding signs reading“Who is next” and “First they came for the journalists – we don’t know what happened next,” following attacks on pride activists and journalists at a scheduled pride march a week ago.

Alexander Lashkarava worked for commercial broadcaster TV Pirveli, he was one of the more than fifty journalists and media workers seriously injured on 5 July during an attack on LGBTQI+ activists in Tbilisi, following the cancellation of a planned Pride march due to fear of violence. He died in his home on 11 July.

Happy Birthday to The Nobel Peace Prize laureate Malala Yousafzai

Malala once said that 'There is nothing wrong in calling yourself a feminist. So I am a feminist, and we all should be feminists because feminism is another word for equality.'

Malala is known for human rights advocacy, especially the education of women and children in her native Swat Valley in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, northwest Pakistan, where the local Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan had at times banned girls from attending school. Her advocacy has grown into an international movement, and according to former Pakistani Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi, she has become "the most prominent citizen" of the country.

As we watched Italy take the victory, many of our first thoughts were concerns for black people, women, Italian supporters and the LGBTQ+ community.

All day yesterday the internet saw a surge of videos taken around London and the rest of the UK showing the violent nature of England supporters. There have been many reports of incidents involving white male England fans terrorising and harming black people. This is unacceptable behaviour and just goes to show that there are racist connotations associated with football.

Rashford, Sancho and Saka as well as the rest of the England squad did exceptionally well to make it to the final and they deserve nothing but praise.

Football is a multicultural sport that is supposed to bring us all together. Blaming the result on a different race, gender or sexual orientation just goes to show how ignorant and problematic England supporters can be.

If you see racism, sexism or homophobic behaviour, it is your job to call it out so we can stop the violence and prejudice.

🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿🇮🇹 As we approach the final, we are all excited to see whether it is really coming home, but some people want England to do well for other reasons....

A study conducted by the National Centre for Domestic violence in 2013 which examined the 2002, 2006 and 2010 World Cup shows that when England loses a game, domestic violence can increase by 38% and if they win or draw it can increase by 26%. Reports were also more frequent on weekends, and reached their peak when England exited the tournament.

Although the culture within football is progressively changing, for example, taking the knee for the Black Lives Matter movement, the issue of domestic violence is being left behind. If you need support please ring 0808 2000 247.

Thousands protested in cities across Spain to demand justice after a gay man was beaten to death after what police believe could have been a homophobic attack.

Samuel Luiz, 24, was attacked while out with friends in the city of A Coruña in the early hours of Saturday morning after an argument started outside a nightclub. He died later in hospital.

Homophobic language is also commonly heard outside the classroom environment in the home and in particular from celebrities and in the media. This can make young people think that it is acceptable or even cool to use homophobic language. Homophobia needs to stop. We need to control our speech and our actions.

How do you fight homophobia?
