FISRT RECORD OF CHRISTMAS

Today is Christmas day (Christ's mass). But for the first 300 years of Christianity, it wasn't so. When was Christmas first celebrated? In an old list of Roman bishops, compiled in A. D. 354 these words appear for A.D. 336: "25 Dec.: natus Christus in Betleem Judeae." December 25th, Christ born in Bethlehem, Judea. This day, December 25, 336, is the first recorded celebration of Christmas.

World Humanitarian Day 2023

This year, our World Humanitarian Day campaign brings together the global humanitarian community to mark the twentieth anniversary of the attack on the UN headquarters in Baghdad, Iraq, and to show our unwavering commitment to deliver for the communities we serve, no matter who, no matter where and .

On 19 August 2003, we lost 22 colleagues in an attack on the United Nations in Baghdad, Iraq. The tragedy profoundly changed the way in which humanitarians operate – from being respected, to being targeted – and led to the creation of World Humanitarian Day (WHD). So every August 19th, we come together to honour humanitarians around the world who strive to meet ever-growing global needs.

July 4th: The history of US Independence Day

The Fourth of July—also known as Independence Day or July 4th—has been a federal holiday in the United States since 1941, but the tradition of Independence Day celebrations goes back to the 18th century and the American Revolution. On July 2nd, 1776, the Continental Congress voted in favor of independence, and two days later delegates from the 13 colonies adopted the Declaration of Independence, a historic document drafted by Thomas Jefferson. From 1776 to the present day, July 4th has been celebrated as the birth of American independence.

INTERNATIONAL DAY AGAINST DRUG ABUSE

2023 theme: People first: stop stigma and discrimination, strengthen prevention

The world drug problem is a complex issue that affects millions of people worldwide. Many people who use drugs face stigma and discrimination, which can further harm their physical and mental health and prevent them from accessing the help they need. The United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) recognizes the importance of taking a people-centered approach to drug policies, with a focus on human rights, compassion, and evidence-based practices.

Psychoactive drugs are substances that, when taken in or administered into one's system, affect mental processes, e.g. perception, consciousness, cognition or mood and emotions. Psychoactive drugs belong to a broader category of psychoactive substances that include also alcohol and ni****ne. “Psychoactive” does not necessarily imply dependence-producing, and in common parlance, the term is often left unstated, as in “drug use”, “substance use” or “substance abuse”.
About 270 million people (or about 5.5% of global population aged 15-64) had used psychoactive drugs in the previous year and about 35 million people are estimated to be affected by drug use disorders (harmful pattern of drug use or drug dependence). It is estimated that about 0.5 million death annually are attributable to drug use with about 350 000 male and 150 000 female deaths. Opioid-related deaths, largely due to synthetic opioids, have recently changed the mortality trends in some high-income countries .

The International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, or World Drug Day, is marked on 26 June every year to strengthen action and cooperation in achieving a world free of drug abuse. The aim of this year’s campaign is to raise awareness about the importance of treating people who use drugs with respect and empathy; providing evidence-based, voluntary services for all; offering alternatives to punishment; prioritizing prevention; and leading with compassion. The campaign also aims to combat stigma and discrimination against people who use drugs by promoting language and attitudes that are respectful and non-judgmental.

CELEBRATION: FATHER'S DAY

Father's Day is a holiday honoring one's father, or relevant father figure, as well as fatherhood, paternal bonds, and the influence of fathers in society. The single most common date among world countries is the third Sunday of June, which was founded in the state of Washington, United States, by Sonora Smart Dodd in 1910.

History

A customary day for the celebration of fatherhood in Catholic Europe is known to date back to at least 1508. It is usually celebrated on 19 March, as the feast day of Saint Joseph, who is referred to as the fatherly Nutritor Domini ("Nourisher of the Lord") in Catholicism and "the putative father of Jesus" in southern European tradition. This celebration was brought to the Americas by the Spanish and Portuguese.

Father's Day around the world

The day is held on various dates across the world, and different regions maintain their own traditions of honoring fatherhood. Many countries including the United Kingdom, France, Ireland, Japan, India, Philippines,Nigeria, Cameroon, South Africa, Argentina and China celebrate Father’s Day on the third Sunday of June. Germany celebrates the Day on Ascension Day which is the Thursday 40 days after Easter. Italy, Spain, and Portugal celebrate on March 19. Austria and Belgium on the second Sunday of June, Denmark on Constitution Day June 5th, and Norway, Sweden, Finland and Iceland celebrate second Sunday of November. Russia celebrates Father’s day on Defender of the Fatherland Day on February 23. Egypt, Syria, Jordan, Lebanon, and United Arab Emirates celebrate on the first day of summer on June 21st. Australia, New Zealand and Fiji celebrate the first Sunday of September. For more on countries celebrating Fathers Day. Sikhs celebrate Father's Day (ਪਿਤਾ ਦਿਵਸ) on 29 December, birthday of Guru Gobind Singh. In some Islamic countries, it is set following the months of the Islamic calendar.
In addition to Father's Day, International Men's Day is celebrated in many countries on 19 November in honor of both men and boys.

INTERNATIONAL NURSE'S DAY

The day is celebrated every year on May 12 to highlight the contribution of nurses to the healthcare sector. It marks the birth anniversary of Florence Nightingale, who is considered the founder of modern nursing.

The theme for this year's International Nurses Day is “Our Nurses, Our Future”.

History
In 1974, the International Council of Nurses declared that the birth anniversary of Florence Nightingale be celebrated as International Nurses Day.
Florence Nightingale was a British nurse and social reformer who is credited with laying the foundation of modern nursing. She is known as the “Lady with the Lamp” around the world. Florence Nightingale earned the title for her work for wounded soldiers during then Crimean War, which was fought between 1853 and 1856. During the war in 1854, Florence Nightingale reached the Barrack Hospital, Scutari (now known as Uskudar in Istanbul) along with 38 officially sanctioned women to treat wounded British troops. She tended to the soldiers, procured medicines and necessary equipment, and ensured that wards were clean and hygienic.
Florence Nightingale died at the age of 90 on August 13, 1910.
The International Council of Nurses (ICN) established the International Nurses Day in 1974. ICN is a federation of more than 130 national nurses' associations that represent over 20 million nurses worldwide.

INTERNATIONAL DOCTORS DAY: March 30th

All around the world, Doctors’ Day is celebrated, as we all recognize the contributions that physicians make in the community and to individual lives. Some countries will celebrate Doctors’ Day on a different date (see links below for dates), yet all nations make sure that those in the healthcare sector are appreciated.
Although supposed to be celebrated by patients in and benefactors of the healthcare industry, it is usually celebrated by health care organizations. Staff may organize a lunch for doctors during which physicians are presented with tokens of recognition. Historically, a card or red carnation may be sent to physicians and their spouses, along with a flower being placed on the graves of deceased physicians.

NATIONAL DOCTOR’S DAY HISTORY
Winder, Georgia, observed the first Doctors Day on March 30, 1933. Dr. Charles B. Almond’s wife, Eudora Brown Almond, wanted to have a day to honor physicians. The community mailed greeting cards and placed flowers on the graves of deceased doctors on this first celebration in 1933. On February 21, 1991, President George H.W. Bush proclaimed National Doctors Day to honor the Nation’s physicians for their dedication and leadership.

How to celebrate Doctors’ Day
There are many different ways that Doctors’ Day can be celebrated. The first thing you should do is to make sure that your doctor knows that he or she is appreciated. Take this day as a chance to thank your physician for providing unswerving care, working long hours, and responding to late-night calls.
Gratitude towards doctors is extended beyond a verbal ‘thank you’ on Doctors’ Day. Patients or former patients and their families send thoughtful notes, flowers, and personalized gifts to their doctors who have saved their lives or made life easier for them through their treatment.
While doctors love to diagnose and help alleviate your problems, they also want you to stay healthy too. Continue practicing daily healthy routines—hydrate, exercise, and fuel up on balanced meals. Your doctor (and your health) will be sure to thank you!
