OAU Lion mauls zookeeper to death while feeding it.

The victim, Mr. Olabode Olawuyi, a veterinary technologist at Obafemi Awolowo University, was said to have been in charge of the Zoological Garden for over a decade.

The PR Officer of the university, Abiodun Olarewaju, confirmed the incident in a statement on Monday.

He said, “Mr. Olawuyi has been taking care of the lions since they were born on campus about 9 years ago, but, tragically, the male lion killed the man who had been feeding them.

The other members of staff who were at the scene of the incident did everything within their power to rescue their boss, but the wild cat had already caused severe fatalities. Saddened by this tragic event, the aggressive lion has been euthanized.”

I Felt Pain Hugging Wigwe's Bereaved Father -Pat Utomi

Political economist, Prof Pat Utomi, has recounted how Shyngle Wigwe, the father of the late Chief Executive Officer of Access Holdings Plc, Herbert Wigwe, visited him after an accident that almost claimed his life in 1991.

Broadcast Communication Plc reports that Utomi in company of the Chief Executive Officer, Dangote Group, Aliko Dangote and the Governor of Ogun State, Dapo Abiodun, alongside other associates paid a condolence visit to the parents of the late Wigwe, on Monday.

In a post on his X handle on Monday, Utomi wrote that he felt pain while hugging Wigwe's father and prayed for fortitude for the Wigwes.

He wrote, "Today was heartbreak. In 1991 when I was a breath away from death from accident near Asaba, the first person I saw from Lagos after surgery in Onitsha was Engr Shyngle Wigwe. He came with his son, Osita, who would pass on similar accident years later. Today I felt pain hugging him

"Deep sincere prayer for fortitude for the Wigwes and for peaceful repose of Herbert, wife and son and the others on that flight and indeed all the faithful departed, through the mercy of God."

BCP reports that Wigwe, his wife, Doreen; son, Chizi; and a former Group Chairman of Nigerian Exchange Group, Abimbola Ogunbanjo, lost their lives in an helicopter crash which occurred near a border town between California and Nevada in the US on Friday.

Barau hails Tinubu for Releasing Grains, to Distribute Rice to 200,000 Households, Urges Governors, LG Chairmen to Follow Suit

Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Barau I. Jibrin, has hailed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for ordering the release of 102,000 tonnes of rice, maize, millet and others to address the high cost of food in the country.

The Federal Government had through the Special Presidential Committee on Emergency Food Intervention, headed by the Chief of Staff, Rt. Hon Femi Gbajabiamila, on Thursday, ordered the release of 102,000 tonnes of grains to Nigerians.

Hailing President Tinubu for the directive, the Deputy President of the Senate, said the move would go a long way in cushioning the effects of the rising cost of commodities in the country.

Senator Barau, in a statement, urged states and local governments to emulate the federal government by releasing grains to the needy in the country.

On his own, Senator Barau said in the coming days he would distribute rice to 200,000 households as part of his contributions to address the challenge.

“At this trying period, we should all support the federal government to address the challenges our country is currently facing. As we all know, the rising cost of food is a global phenomenon and our country is not unaffected by it.

"It is against this background, that I implore states and local governments to distribute food items to those in need across the country to cushion the effects of the rise in cost of food items,“ he said.

Mixed reactions trail BBC report on TB Joshua

Mixed reactions have trailed a report detailing how the late founder of the Synagogue Church of All Nations (SCOAN) Pastor Temitope Balogun Joshua, popularly known as TB Joshua, r***d, tortured, and confined some church members to solitary.

The investigative report by the British Broadcasting Corporation’s (BBC) Africa Eye, spanning over two years, detailed the accounts of victims who claimed they were r***d and also underwent forced abortions in a secretive Lagos compound for almost 20 years.

The BBC reports that a Briton, Rae, “was 21 years old when she abandoned her degree at Brighton University in 2002 and was recruited into the church. She spent the next 12 years as one of Joshua’s so-called “disciples” inside his maze-like concrete compound in Lagos.”

The over-150-minute-long video, slipt up into three parts and published on YouTube, titled “Disciples: The Cult of TB Joshua,” also took into account the stories of former disciples and church workers.

It also delved deeper into the collapse of a guesthouse for church pilgrims in 2014, killing at least 116 people.

Joshua was also accused of faking his “miracle healings”, which were broadcast to millions of people around the world.

Following the report, social media users shared their views on the investigation.

An X User, wrote: “Few minutes into the TB Joshua documentary and I’ve already noticed some similarities in some campus ministries/cults”

, said: “Me and my brothers would only tune in to EmmanuelTV whenever we needed a good laugh. We could still see through the gimmicks as young as we were, reason why i find it absurd how adults fell for his theatrics. Used to drive my mom nuts every time we laughed.”

: “Y’all think a single documentary with no valid evidence but just accusations can eradicate whatever God has used TB Joshua to do for the world. It’s not like we’re in a court where Judges rule in accordance to what

Wayne Rooney Reacts To His Birmingham City Sacking

Former English professional football player and manager, Wayne Rooney, has broken his silence following his dismissal as the manager of Birmingham City.

The announcement of Rooney's sacking was made by Birmingham City on Tuesday through its official website, citing the decision as a result of his failure to meet performance expectations.

Rooney reacting to the sacking said that he believes he should have been given more time to make the necessary changes as the manager of Birmingham City.

He acknowledged that football is a results-oriented business, but emphasized that the 13 weeks he had at the helm were insufficient to implement the required transformations.

In a statement released on his X account after his departure was confirmed Rooney said, “I would like to thank Tom Wagner, Tom Brady, and Garry Cook for the opportunity to manage Birmingham City FC and the support they all gave me during my short period with the club.

“Football is a results business and I recognize they have not been at the level I wanted them to be. However, time is the most precious commodity a manager requires and I do not believe 13 weeks was sufficient to oversee the changes that were needed.

“Personally, it will take me some time to get over this setback. I have been involved in professional football, as either a player or manager, since I was 16. Now, I plan to take some time with my family as I prepare for the next opportunity in my journey as a manager.

“Finally, I wish Birmingham City FC and its owners my best wishes in the pursuit of their ambitions.”

Rooney, appointed as Birmingham manager on October 11, was the first managerial selection by the new owner, Tom Wagner, and his Knighthead Capital Management Group.

However, the team's performance under Rooney saw nine losses in the 15 matches played since his appointment.
