🪲CICADA INVASION THIS SPRING—

“I CAN’T HEAR MYSELF THINK” is how loud the cicadas will be this spring.

More than a dozen states across the U.S. are set for a once-in-a-lifetime experience this spring, though it's one most people would probably prefer to do without.

This year, 16 states across parts of the South and the Midwest will see the emergence of two different cicada groups in tandem, a crossover that hasn't happened in 221 years!

Get ready for extremely loud evenings, and nights!

🌧️ Our next chance of rain comes Friday morning, and I can’t rule out a few snowflakes mixing into the rain especially in our southwestern and western counties. Some areas might see about .3-.5” of rain with this.

There were about 15 tornado reports (red dots are tornado, blue is damaging wind, and green is hail) last night across IL, OH, and MI. None of them affected our area thankfully! The cap and orientation of the cold front really were the saving grace’s that kept the higher end potential from being realized.

Temperatures will drop drastically tonight behind the cold front. Below freezing temperatures overnight and very gusty winds up to 40 mph.

Storms were never able to outrun the cold front tonight and in most cases were undercut immediately. Lots of things timing-wise led to an underwhelming performance by these storms tonight. The potential was there, but we’re lucky it wasn’t realized. Thank you all for the support today and for trusting in us to bring you the live coverage and updates. Have a good night!

The cap is quite strong, but with the cold front crashing in I expect development over the next couple of hours. The atmosphere is certainly conducive for tornadoes, so any storm that goes up will need to be watched.

⚠️🌪️The Storm Prediction Center just upgraded our tornado risk from 5% to 10% in their new update and added a “hatched” risk for strong tornadoes (EF2+). With this being an overnight risk (8p-12a) it’s important to review your tornado safety plan and have a way to receive warnings that will wake you up. Stay tuned!

⚠️ Again guys, main threats tonight are large hail, and damaging winds, but an isolated tornado cannot be ruled out given how favorable the wind profiles will be. We will be live starting when the first warning is issued tonight and will not go off air until the severe weather threat has cleared the area. Remember, this is not an outbreak of severe weather, but the risks are there. Prepared, not scared.

As of the latest data this morning, the area I’ve circled below will have the highest chance to see a tornado tonight between 8 pm and 12 am. Damaging winds, and large hail are the main concerns here, but if a storm can form ahead of the main line, or become discrete (all by itself) then the tornado risk would be much higher. We will be live tonight covering the radar and warnings. Map is projected combined tornado ingredients at 8 pm tonight.

Cap is holding pretty strong right now. Less confident in storm development over the next few hours but we will see.

The Storm Prediction Center has upgraded our outlook for Tuesday night. They have bumped the tornado risk from 2% to 5% and the hail threat from 5% to a 15% “hatched” risk. A hatched risk means that we may see significant hail. This would be 2” or greater in diameter hailstones. The wind risk stays the same at 15%. Some uptick in model guidance has been noted and this is something we’re monitoring closely especially in our southern and eastern counties. Stay tuned for updates!

⚠️⛈️ Don’t be caught off gaurd tonight in this circled area. A cluster of strong thunderstorms is expected to develop by 1 am with hail, lightning, downpours and gusty winds being the primary cause for concern.
