We did it... we have a Kitchen!!!🍽

If you’re at all concerned about building your own cabinets or drawers... let us be the first to tell you, this is just as good! Pre-fabbed was a super easy and effective way to get a bunch of storage in our tiny kitchen :)

We all have school bus memories... When I was a kid, the back of the school bus was the place to be. One time while back there, I remember a young girl saying something mean and disrespectful to my little sister.

I’m a lover not a fighter, but starting with this instance, I’m not one to shy away from necessary confrontation - especially in the name of family.

At age 10, I looked this girl right in the eye and said “don’t ever talk to my sister like that again.”

And she never did again.

And my sister looked at me like she knew I’d always back her up. And I always will❤️

Dedication over motivation🙌🏼

We got lots of love on this mindset yesterday! Movement and exercise is one of the things that brought us together as a couple, and it’s definitely a part of our lives we’re not ready to give up once we hit the road...

We strongly believe that whether it’s an actual event you’re working towards, or just the ultimate goal of lifelong health - you’re either working towards or against it! While we travel, we’ll stay strong using whatever we’ve got like this homemade sand-bag and Ash even wants to have a go at some triathlons!

Making our fridge fancy✨

I’ve always loved the look of kitchens that “hide” the fridge with a wooden front facade so it blends in with all the surrounding cabinetry...

So we’re making our own in the bus! This weekend we boxed in the fridge thanks to some very precise cuts from Shawn and are so excited about each piece of wood that’ll stand out with its own unique pattern! Eventually we’ll cover up the front w/ matching 1/4 inch for the full effect🤩

Any sanding recommendations for a smooth finished look? We’ll be covered in saw dust the next couple weekends😅

So here’s where we’re at: even with a super productive weekend on the bus - walls going up, insulation being hidden... as we left for the day we looked at each other and went, “doesn’t it still look exactly the same to you?”😂 this makes me wonder what it’s gonna take for us to feel like we’re really getting somewhere... maybe stain on the walls and kitchen cabinets? Those are definitely October goals🎃

Anyways, how bout this glorious weather all around folks?!🤩 what’s your favorite part about fall? :)

Bringing Jimi home this weekend for some serious plywood install!! Our major goal for the past few weeks has been to get everything covered up in wood (no more exposed insulation). Birch is expensive and cutting it all the size is time consuming but we’re hoping for some major updates this weekend🤠

Thought for the day...

Outwardly expressing anger is like picking up a hot coal to throw at someone... Who gets burned first?

We’re working through some frustrations that are ironically and undoubtedly stirred up from building this home on wheels... but I think the best thing to do is recognize the source and embrace the impermanence. Because we get closer to living together, on the road every single day.

To my partner forever and always, I love you, I love you, I love you☁️💙

If you can get past our sappy love note to each other, let’s open this up (no one’s perfect!) Who else finds that a huge project like this brings up so disagreements and frustrations with yourself or build buddy from time to time??✨

Jumping for joy about our new extended bumper... cheesy? WHO CARES this is awesome!!🤩

Step one was completed all in a days work! Next we’ll move on to cover up the sides and top with wood to match our roof deck ⛅️

Officially coming in at 29.5ft long... perfect if you ask us :)

Checking out that bumper😉

This weekend we’re extending the bumper!! It’s the last - major, structural thing we’re changing about on the bus... but necessary to get done now (since we’ll be mounting the AC condenser back there!)

It’ll only make the bus about 3-4 feet longer but we can’t wait to have a little extra room for accessing the garage and also a place to keep our .city.co bikes! 🚲
For those Skoolie folk who don’t tow a vehicle, have bikes been sufficient to get around?? What do you use for a second form of transportation while traveling?

Is there a BEST way to build your Skoolie??

Nope! Definitely not! Every bus, and every builder is so different and there’s definitely more than one way to go about the whole job...

However, while we may not be at the end yet, we still consider ourselves a tad experienced in all the things we’ve accomplished so far now! We often reflect back on our build and how we wish we’d done one thing differently, or had done major jobs in an entirely different order, just saying: “for next time!”

That’s why our last video is all about, in OUR opinion the best steps to take as you begin building your skoolie, van, or RV🙌🏼✨ doing things the right way first, will save you time, $$, and lots of frustrated exchanges w/ your build buddy :) TRUST us 😅 check it out with the link in bio!!

Fall weather, we welcome you with open arms🙌🏼🥺

The FL weather definitely affects our build whether it’s heat, the constant rain, or nagging humidity... so with a couple weeks left to go we’ll be welcoming the most gorgeous fall weather (70 and sunny ☀️)

Today we’re celebrating having 2K of you come along on our journey💫🎉

We appreciate having a place to share all our milestones, and mess-ups! We love getting to connect with each of you daily and we’ve learned so many things from our Skoolie community😄

During the process of converting this bus, some of the biggest payoff we’ve had has been the friends and family who are now inspired to chase Bus or Van life for themselves!! We’ll keep sharing, to inspire other people who are in search of the ultimate freedom🧡

So we finally did it...

We finished the interior of the skylight!! Since we were crazy enough to install this thing almost a year ago, we’ve been framing about how beautiful and bright it’ll be in our finished tiny home :) you can check out our bus’ latest look in our new video LIVE NOW🙌🏼💚

What could we be up to?🥴

What’s the best way to remove spray foam?? A good old steak knife folks!🔪 Shawn looks crazy here, but we’re just excited to be finishing off this insane skylight in our bus!

Every time we drive around town to Home Depot (NO we don’t own a truck so YES we take the bus to the store😂) - people always give us some funny looks while glancing up at the big hat on our bus 🎩

It’s obviously a spectacle from the outside, and we’ve always pictured it as a huge feature on the inside! The big reveal of our finished skylight is coming to you in the vlog this week! Stay tuned👐🏽💫💚🤪

All the LIGHTS🚦💡

Skoolie’s come filled with a million wires that lead to a million things you may or may not need... most of those things are lights! Reverse, taillights, marker lights, and turning signals are all a critical part of your build that you need to check on!

Now that we’ve gone through it, we highly recommend checking out how and if all these lights work BEFORE insulating the bus!! Because you won’t have access after that... Whether they’re just old and dim or the wire needs to be reconnected, DO IT before it’s too late😅

As for these red and yellow blinking signals up top, they’re specific to a school bus so you can’t actually use them while driving as an RV... we’ll be replacing the 4 in front with clear caps and use them as additional headlights and the ones in the back we’ll paint black :)

If you guys haven’t checked out our last video yet, we installed this awesome outdoor shower 🚿 Hopefully we’ll be testing the plumbing lines soon and putting this bad boy to use... 🌧

We decided on this project last weekend because 1. We’re trying to slow down the $$ flow to this build right now and 2. We already had the shower lying around so it was a “free job”🙌🏼 but that’s left us with some detail work I’ve wanted to get to for forever now... excited to share with you guys😄

Getting ready for tiny life...

When it comes to minimizing our lives to move into the bus, we’re lucky to not own a ton of big objects to get rid of or store: like a couch, or bed. Everything in the bus will be our first to own, which is really exciting :)

We know some of our fellow builders have already started to sort through their things and practice minimalism before moving in!

What are your best minimalism tips for living a tiny life??
