Hey, friends! Happy Monday!!!
Let’s take a second to talk about toxic positivity!
I was really confused when I first started researching this topic because I never thought that being positive could be a toxic thing, shoot, being positive and “looking at the bright side,” is what we’re strongly encouraged to do, especially during hard times!
However, the more I researched it, the more I realized how dangerous it actually is, and y’all, I haven’t felt that ~attacked~ in a very long time.
I’m the person that is always encouraging people to choose joy, and I embrace the mindset of “there’s always someone who has it worse,” which, don’t get me wrong, these are both true, we do need to choose joy, and yes there is always someone who has it worse, but constantly having that mindset does not allow us to feel our emotions, it essentially forces us to suppress our emotions and not deal with them.
When we don’t process our feelings, they get pushed aside and we think they go away, but we just end up letting them fester and they become unavoidable and we end up hurting so much more than we would’ve had we just dealt with them in the first place.
Moral of the story don’t be afraid to be feel your feelings! I think a lot of times, especially in the Christian faith, we are encouraged to just pray about it, and the bad things will go away. I’m not saying that the Lord doesn’t answer prayers, He definitely does, just not in the way that we expect Him to! He doesn’t always take our bad feelings or circumstances away from us. More often than not, He uses those circumstances to increase our dependence on Him.
Lean into those feelings, friends! Trust that Jesus will use your feelings, circumstances, relationships, or whatever it is, for His glory, and that is so worth it.
