An experimental immunotherapy involving so-called natural killer cells elicited complete remissions in a majority of patients with advanced Hodgkin lymphoma, researchers reported Sunday. In the study, eight of the 13 patients given an optimized dose and schedule of the therapy saw their tumor cells completely disappear with minimal side effects. The new data improve upon initial results presented last year, although it remains unclear how long the responses will last.

Federal officials today reported Montana's first two highly pathogenic H5N1 avian flu outbreaks, part of ongoing high-path avian flu activity affecting half of US states, as Indiana reported another commercial farm outbreak, its first in about a month. Two thousand ventilators being used in UK hospitals are at risk of suddenly shutting down due to electrical faults that have led to a global safety alert. Hospitals have been ordered to source replacement ventilators after Philips Respironics said its breathing support devices could suddenly stop working, in some cases without activating a warning alarm.
